Fact is this.. Selling or trading items both people come away with something nice and the community as a whole grows better.. With Casinos 1 perons comes away with money the other person loses money... Simple as that.. So instead of helping each other we are taking that next step closer to stabbing each other in the back and squeezing every last plat we can out of our neighbours.

Any rebuttal to my pointing out PVP works the same way, and that in both cases people have the choice to participate or not?

O and one more thing, I don't feel it necessary for me to be forced to advertise my casino in another chat channel. If I'm forced to do that then I won't reach as many potential customers... If you do feel it necessary for me to do this, then I'd like express my opinion that all the people who auction ports to be forced to have a channel as well. Also for that matter, I'd like everyone who selling items to be subject to the same principle. Thx. Casino is a service it belongs in /auc just like port whores, and item sellers, if you don't see the simple logic in this then you shouldn't dwell on such topics =).

As to a "rebuttal" on your PvP comparison... Umm why? You pretty much closed my argument for me.. How many people do you see /OOCing to dual? Think the entire server wants to hear 2 kids argue about their epeens and how leetzor they are because they killed each other 160 times? No.. And thus you dont see idiots /OOCing "Duals in Newport next half hour" all day.

As to Shurely.. Dude you have got to see this and are just pretending you dont. When you take someones money and justify it as helping the economy because you spend the money... yeah thats great kudos.. Some guy does a 24 hour all nighter and earns 5000 plat and you walk away with it in 5 mins... But oooh you go and buy something real cool fmor someone else and that makes the casino transaction less of a burden on the community? Wow.. good logic..

My point is, if you want Casinos and price gouging vendors go back to live. There's lots of them there for you. When you are part of a small but growing RP and adventure community does it really foster bonds of friendship and cooperation by getting your gear over the blood sweat and tears of other people?

Encouraging Casinos in OOC is wrong IMO. It sets the mentality of the server that it's OK to do whatever it takes to get the next piece of plat out of their neighbours pockets.

I'm done posting on this topic. The 2 sides are clear. To say that Casinos should be outlawed under threat of account deletion is stupid. But to say that Casinos support the player economy and build relationships with your fellow community members is equally as stupid.

You are comparing apples to oranges. The PVP analogy was in reference to having a distinct winner/loser. The other /auc stuff was in regards to the /auc spam.

And yes, self-restraint FTW. We cant say casinos are bad because they allow people to (potentially) lose all this money they earned (OR, double that amount). What about dying? Shoud we disallow people from exping/raiding because it could potentially result in losing exp/buffs/etc (even though theres also a chance of getting loot)? The game is about risk vs. reward, if they people dont think the risk is worth the reward, they wont do it. We cant mandate rules on players because we feel they cant think for themselves... we have to let go of their hands sometime.

And just for the record, I'm not trying to attack anyone with any of the posts I make. I enjoy expressing my opinions, and also listening to those of others, regardless of whether I agree or not.

This is not one of them. Let it go. The only legitimate anti-casino arguments apply to live and not to SoD. "Waaaah waaah other people do things with their money i wouldn't!" isn't a valid argument. Their money, their business.

I personally don't mind the "commericals" of Shurley's or people's auctions. Rather I would say my pet peeve is why porters auc/ ooc themselve since if someone wants a ride they'd say so in those channels. After reviewing Aeran's comments I question my vendor location & discount macro use even when I do it once an hour. I found it fun whenever Wallace would do his after mine. :lol: I'm generally open to feedback and offer mine to others.

Hopefully if it's not much coding, the /random be of /say radius as on EQL.

This is SoD and not live... GMs actually do something about people who misuse ooc. Anyone who decides to be 'retarded' in ooc, which seems to be spam the way you are talking and this thread implies, will get ooc revoked, and if it's bad enough, a ban.

After reading this long thread I agree with iaeolan....It seems fairly well controlled being the server population is small and the imps are generally online quite a bit.

Another aspect mentioned is that it is OOC out of character chat...and can always be turned off on your client.

I support anyone saying anything OOC as long as it remains civil and it isn't spam. If every 4th line becomes "CASINO CASINO CASINO", or "PLAY MY CASINO STOP BEING A FAGGOT AND INTERACT WITH PLAYERS", then we have a problem.

Yeah, my general rule of thumb is to wait 5 minutes between LFG requests, auctions, and stuff like that, or after 3+ blocks of text have passed. I think that's a good rule of thumb, as it lets enough time pass so people are not flooded with your text, but allows you to do it frequently enough to catch new views.

Why not eliminate it as spam? If you are going to take the time to evenly space out your announcements, simply type out a new one each time with variations. This solves a good chunk of the arguement here nullifying some of the possible complains. Either way though, casino is allowed. Some people just need to have more faith that if becomes an incredulous problem, it will be taken care of.

Ok i have a degree in economics and i will tell you that the pp wil circulate many times to charm merchant and other places.



So to my main idea get back the zone bazaar have all vendors there and use the option where you can look up items. Then make that you can only do /shout in there so Casinos can be there.

The whole idea of haveing lots of vendors in diffrent cites is just well i dont like it i need to travel to many cites to look after spells and items.

So why not build a marketplace as Bazaar and lets the economy fload !
