Can pets use NO DROP items?

Is there a definitive reason pets can't use NO DROP items? Some of the pet weapons already in game are more OP than anything NO DROP, so I can't think of an instance this would break balance, and anyone with access to high end NO DROP gear also dies pretty regularly. I was just thinking it would be a cool little tweak if players could put rotting NO DROP items on their pets to make them slightly beefier/stronger.

There may be a big balance issue I'm missing, and this isn't a huge issue either way, I just think it would be a cool little tweak if this was possible.

The reason why pets won't take NO DROP items is that the average player is very sad when he realized that he JUST fed his Sword of Ultimate Doom to a pet by accident. In the past, pets would take NODROP items (who knows if they equipped em back then, /cm petinv didn't exist yet.), but fortunately that was changed.

Huh... is that something that actually happens often enough that it would add much burden to /petitions? There isnt really a reason people should be clicking items they intend to keep on players/pets/etc

Yes, happened a LOT.

i swear leveling up i use to give no drop items to pets all the time... that was way back in like 2007 tho... way back back into time.

I also remember giving no drop loot to pets, and i miss it... all the time... :(

Sounds pretty dumb that the entire server cant give pets no drop weapons because a bunch of newbs/morons messed up... At that rate might as well make all players have to use the trash bin to delete anything no drop as well!

Can't a command be implemented to toggle off the lock on giving pets no drop items for X minutes after which it automatically goes back on?

Based on the fact that some NO DROP loots were designed with pets not being able to use them (I'm looking at you, +1000AC weapons off yclist trash), I don't see that happening, sorry.

2 animation blades per boss kill

2 billion yclist trash swords every clear
This. Also those temple guards you can 1group easly. Also it might surprise you, but animation blades are deemed problematic and their prolonged existance is only owed to their comparable rarity. Were they widely available, I'd guarantee you they would have been toned down a lot a long time ago.

Just seems like a silly thing overall. it's not like pet weapons are indefinitely sustainable. Even animation blade pets don't last that long, usually because the owner dies... I've probably used more animation blades than anyone in the history of the server. I had 19 in my bank at one point last year. Sooner or later you just stop caring because even their use isn't that game changing. Though it is hilariously fun.

I guess I forget that the purpose is not increase the amount of fun players have, but to see how far you can nerf things before everyone quits. I believe @Silosobi could create a laundry list from the top of his head of all the dumb things that were nerfed or changed for little to no reason. #channeling

I feel like a good solution to pet weapons if one is deemed necessary would not be to allow no drop items. There is the real problem of people being dumb and trading valuable items. Plus no drop items allow devs to use weapons as a way to balance NPCs without risking pet balance.

Instead have a list of desired options that are currently no drop that you want made droppable. Things that used to be great pet weapons that were taken away, or things that never got to be pet weapons but would be fair to have.

(Looking at you clockwork weapon from rust; same justification of rarity as animation weapons but still no drop last I saw)

There is a lot in this game that really frustrates me, but I do try to understand the reasoning and accept things I may disagree with. The truly frustrating things are the ones that nobody claims are intended, they are just aftereffects of intended changes that nobody ever bothered to fix.

In this case, it seems like two small changes could be made to add a cool new functionality to the game (giving pets rotting NO DROP gear). First, add a toggle that allows giving pets NO DROP items, that is OFF by default. Second, add a level req, or other requirement to items that are intended to never be used by pets. This is a tad tedious, but I think its a really short list of items really intended to not go to pets.

#channeling is definitely one of those changes that nobody bothered to fix. Not that the channeling change needs to be reversed (I understand it, even though it massively hurt my class), but when this change went in game, a dev (I think it was Slaar) assured the playerbase that they would look at the items with channeling, and adjust them as needed to account for the power loss of channeling. Earlier items, from before channeling was a thing, tend to already be okay, but there were a number of items made specifically with the power of channeling in mind, and ever since the change they have been obviously lacking. I've made multiple threads on this topic without so much as a reply. I understand Devs have to do what they have to do, but it's discouraging to me when issues like this go unfixed for years, despite careful numerical analysis, and discussion.

This is very simple. Any item that players can use... So any no drop item that is usable by a class and a race, period. If it's no drop and has in instance of NONE on either class or race, pets cant use it. IE pets can use anything a player could use.

Yeah, http://wiki.shardsofdalaya.com/index.php/Timeblade off Clockwork himself you mean? I recall picking that thing up, at least a couple times, thinking pet weapon, and the no drop tag screwing it over. makes no sense, as it is a none/none no drop, no rent weapon.

Yeah it definitely seems like there is some stuff in game (POFire armor comes to mind too) that was intended as pet gear, but the NO DROP change removed its utility.

Pet armor is never really going to break balance because its not reliable, but its definitely fun.

I could get behind making obvious pet gear with NODROP tag pet useable again, if there was a list of those things somewhere. I can not get behind a toggle or some such that allows players to trade NODROP loot to pets, because I know that people can and will screw this up. Alas, not my call eitherways.

You mean the armor off the Suhayb in the castle between the Fiend twins and the Guard Mephit? I thought I recalled feeding that stuff to Lucy back when Prestige raided that zone. (was a long time ago, might have changed since, or i could remember wrong too.)

That stuff is pet usable.
