Best solo class

Dang, its been forever since I have played EQ. School, and wife got to me so I had to stop. Anyways I just want to level fast and easy. I was thinking bard, with there good slow spells for kiting etc. I donno, what is your opinion?

Rek.

I feel that it is my duty to proclaim Necromancers the best soloers. If I didn't, the Union might kick me out.

Having never played a bard to an extent where i could give you good info on them, i wont. However, the best soloers are pet classes, and having played all 3 (beastlord, Magician, and Necro) I would have to say the mage is able to solo the best, but then again your play style may differ from mine. Between my 63 mage and 65 beastlord my mage was the best till my bst got some aa's under his belt, and i chose bst because i like to pummel mobs with melee while having the utility/option of having my pet duke it out while i play healer to him. Mages will level far faster than a beastlord, simply because thier pets are better than the beastlord pets. So you could just heal your pet and dish out considerable dps with your nukes. Also on that note, mages can obtain a higher dps rate than a beastlord because of thier nukes. I am biased on this, and maybe a bit hipocritical since my main is a beastlord, but i have played both classes extensively and know both sides of the fence. I just prefer a beastlord due to my playstyle.

Thanks for the fast reply, I read Beastlords were a very popular class. So i think ill go either bard or mage. THANKS ALOT for the comments, helps alot.

Before you make a bard, you should know they've undergone some significant changes recently. You'll probably want to know about them before you make a bard. I myself no longer play my bard as I'm not enthused with how they handle now, particularly in the soloing aspect (I went monk/shaman loner crazy no-group fringe  ). Some people may like the 'new' bards... they're somewhat more group oriented.

hmm thats a shame, I loved the bards playing style in EQlive. Anyways, is it easy to 2box? I have a good computer so Im sure i can handle 2 windows heh.

very easy to 2box, set up 2 accounts and put your toons on each account. You can have up to 3 accoutns but may only play 2 characters at any one time.

one problem installing, Im able to make a character But when it goes to load in game i get a map error. Something about cant find zone file "nightmareb" in the directory you are currently running EQ in. ;(

Thanks, wasnt sure if it was that easy. And I was sure to read the rules so I be sure to only have 2 characters at one time :D

IMO, rangers are the best solo class (for exp) hands down. Bow kiting allows us to essentially kill any non summoning mob. We have the ability of dealing damage and taking none, indefinately. Yes, pet classes can actually tank mobs and stuff, but they will require downtime to regen mana for heals if they are looking for any type of exp efficiency. For example, how many classes/people can chain pull the Frenzied Worshipper camp in East Plaguelands (when Rotlord is down) solo, with a 15 minute break between clear and respawns? If you're talking about one time things like doing a named, maybe a pet class is better. But for general exp purposes I believe that a ranger can outsolo and out exp any other soloer.

Also aeran do not forget to include how many aa's you will need to be able to do that "indefinate" killing for xp. Rangers will not level fast which, based upon the original posters comments, is a feature of a class he is looking for.

Druid past 14 = Arguably better solo then even ranger ,

Why?

Charm, heal , ds = Free tank , no exp penalty.

Certain mobs can give a RIDICULOUS ammount of DPS too(Griffons) and will dominate everything else.

Not to mention DOT rotting ect , if your not skilled enough to charm ;)

As for ranger , Gear dependant and youd love to have a huntsman bracelet :(

too much downtime with druid imo, mine is level 60 and i've found it much easier to use a pet class, especially at low levels when you are oom you can let your pet solo one while you med.

Druid downtime is heavily cut if you have ~decent benefits~ (Flameseer scroll around 15ish , then at 40 KEI KEI KEI . 45/46 JB JB JB JB JB)

I found it pretty easy to get the ft 1 charm too , had it by 24 or so with no real assistance.

As for charming and downtime , those are oxymorons , i have NILL downtime in charms , the only "downtime" is for mobs to respawn.

True, its in the endgame which rangers shine as master soloers.

However, I exp'd 1-60+ solo as a ranger bowkiting in a very short amount of time. You are only affected by your bow, and you can buy bags of arrows for very cheap at vendors. I'd say enc's are great soloers due to their charm, I've seen a few level 1-65 in days~

I would agree, that if, you had a really good bow, and an unlimited source of arrows from level 1 then you could feasibly level very fast. I doubt that is the case here. As for enchanters leveling quickly, i have seen some level very fast yes. But that takes alot of work/time in learning what/where/when to go to certain zones so you can charm kill. If thats something Rekcah is interested in doing then super, i'd love to see more enchanters come in. But seriously, people do not make rangers to level up fast and be able to kill lots of cool crap, unless its your alt you wanna twink out.

Well if you think about it: from level 1 a rangers get a crap bow (just as casters get crap spells or melee's get crap gear) and nothing else. Regardless of their other gear or anything else, as long as they buy 1 dmg arrows (killing mobs will more than suffice to fund this) they will be able to kill indefinately (till their arrows run out). Pretty much its like having a warrior/rogue/monk solo, except you never have to heal (and you need to go to the vendor ever few levels, till you get to the higher levels).

Edit: this is taking into consideration that you're untwinked and dont have a high level character to buff you up. A caster will need some sort of clarity buffs to be able to even compete with an unbuffed, naked (save for bow) ranger of the same level.

As i said , rangers best investment imo is that huntsmen bracelet if you can get somone to sell it to you (Its not no drop to my knowledge , could be wrong)

Infinite arrows , No weight , GG.

As for enchanters they can definently level well too , but you need ALOT of patience and alot of knowledge of what your doing

Yeah that Huntsman Bracelet is nice, if you have the 5k for it and level 40 or 45 levels required to click it. I'd love to have one tho, mightmake me play my 35 ranger more.
