Best solo class

I played almost every class on live up to a respectable level, anything I didnt play, my brother did.

I did alot of soloing with every class I played, my main was a level 70 ranger with 250+ aa, a 66 shaman, 55 chanter and 53 wizard were my alts (had a lowbie mage, monk, and cleric too).

Its hard to quantify who is the best soloer, it depends on too many things. For speed, rangers are for sure not the fastest from 1-65/70, I'll leave some comments on the classes I actually played.

Any melee (no spells) class will have problems soloing past about 20ish, even up to there can be a struggle due to downtime between fights.

Shaman are great soloers, from 1-65, though definitley not the fastest, they are one of the safest, once they get torpor, they will be able to kill many tough critters, but at no great speed.

Enchanters are great soloers, though it can get a little hair raising at times, I think it was my fastest 1-55 character solo, but she was quite well twinked, as a newbie, it will be slightly more difficult but not amazingly so, you just have to be more careful.

Wizards can find it slow up to level 29, until they get quad snare, at this point, with a friendly SoW, they can totally rake in the EXP until level 55ish, there is downtime but the mass XP you make prior to that makes up for it.

Druids are great soloers, they can root rot, charm kite, quad kite, heal, and add nukes for extra DPS (though this isn't really needed). Anything snareable that doesnt summon is killable by a druid, they are definitley one of the safest soloers, and also one of the fastest, very good duo'd with an enchanter.

Rangers are ok soloers, they are not the fastest, or safest, but can comfortably solo their way up to 65 if they so desire, without the need for mass AA. Before you have the abilities to PROPERLY bow kite (EQ/AM3), you can just fear kite, from level 22 when you get panic animal, until level 65 (western wastes, though it will take aeons). The old trick of getting headshot at 62 and AAing wont work in SoD due to there being no headshot AA. Once you do get your AA's, you can pull in (with max haste) approx 1 aa per 2 hours or so (in somewhere like HoH, which isn't on SoD). It is very safe, unless you screw up, even adds should be no problem to an experienced kiter.

And some comments on classes I dont know too well:

Necromancers are probably the best soloers, they have amazing DPS, great pets, and can just pet kite there way up to 65, following the same rules as druids (snareable / doesnt summon), they can even take on some mobs that do summon. Also they have little downtime due to their great regen.

Beastlords and mages solo in similar ways, I would give beastlords the nod due to the ability to slow, which lowers their mana expenditure, which again, in turn, lowers their downtime. Lack of snare or CC tools makes the camp options limited, but not massivley so.

The other two hybrids, SK and Pala, can solo to an extend, the SK faring better due to fear and snare, but both have fairly low DPS so will find it a taxing task to solo from 1-65.

Bards were great on live, but I hear they have been changed more than any of the other classes, so will reserve comments here.

In order of speed from 1-65, including inherent dangers, I would put the classes like this (excluding bards, as I just dont know):

Necromancer
Enchanter
Druid
Wizard
Ranger
Mage / Beastlord
Shaman
Cleric
Shadowknight
Paladin
War / Monk / Rogue / Zerker

Now play style may affect speed of leveling, and other factors, including how much has changed from live to SoD, which I am not fully aware of (I wish I was, need an FAQ! :D)

I dont imagine that too much has changed, so this should roughly be the order.

Skilled work with charms is probably at least potentially the fastest leveling. Thus Enchanters, Necros, and Druids have the potential to really tear it up. Another option, though, is a high DPS 2box. Bst/wiz or mag/wiz both provide amazing options, since both classes in both pairs have excellent DPS and the ability to tank and heal well. Bst/wiz in particular is especially versatile, since you have the ports of a wizard and the slows, heals, and buffs (bst crack ftw!) of the bst.

As far as pure soloing goes, you'll hear all kinds of different opinions, and I don't think there's a way to empirically demonstrate that one or another is right or wrong. If you wan't to have more options than the limitations of charms, certainly all three pet classes have a lot of potential, as do wizards. Druids are a fair option as well. Rangers are pretty slow levelers early on, and incredibly boring if you just bow kite--but as Aeran said, if you get them to high levels with a lot of AAs, they can tear it up.

I have no idea how bards are at soloing since the changes.

Thank you guys for all the help, I think ill go enchanter. Would be a fun im sure ;)

On another note, when i open the patcher it goes to this "WARNING - game way cause seizers ( sp ) " Well i go to click OK but I cant, its like my mouse isnt on that window, Alt+tab wont work I just have to restart my computer. Any tips?

Thread in tech support on this...

First, at the SoD Patcher, go to advanced and unclick EQW.

Now, run... when that screen is up, go to full screen with alt+enter

Now, click the screen once with the left mouse button. ( no tech support sense for why this works, it just does)

Now alt tab.

The game arrow will not be synced with the white windows arrow, but you will control both. The game arrow is grey, usually out of sight in the upper left corner. The white windows arrow is usually almost off the screen before the game arrow shows. Use the game arrow to click next.

You will usually see a flicking image of piece of whatever you have in the background in open windows.... webpages, messenger. If you can still interact with these background items, then you do not yet have control of the game cursor.

PLEASE NOTE... THIS IS A LIVE PROBLEM, NOT A SOD PROBLEM.

Thank you, silly of me to not use the search tool.. Good tool indeed. Sorry for the question was my mistake. :)

I didnt see anyone mention shamans as an uber soloing pet class. Never played a shaman myself, but I'm pretty sure that alot of people make the arguement that once a shaman achieves a pet, they are very good at soloing with their buffs and debuffs.

Shamans are awesome at soloing once they get torpor at 60. Prior to that they can do it, but aren't that great. Their DoTs don't really have stellar DPS because there are very long breaks inbetween them. When you first get it, it might be nice, but after 8 or 10 levels it's going to be pretty puny.

Shaman makes a grea complement to a melee, but I'd say the soloing at low and mid levels is only fair.

BTW I rarely bothered with pet when soloing after 60, depended on the area though.

Shamans are not the best soloing class. When they get Torpor/Slumber at level 60 it's really nice, but I still don't think it compares to some of the other casters - primarily the int casters. I would consider a shaman 'decent' soloer.

BTW SK's at least can solo from 1-65. No you wont be the fastest soloer (especially if you choose Troll like I did or Iksar), but if you go human I would say you would be damn well off. This class has alot of tricks up its sleeve, not the least of which is FD. Rare deaths, but not too great DPS, snare, mez, a pet (weak one but hey extra DPS is extra DPS), lifetaps, DoTs and a self mana regen at higher levels :). Hell we even get our own DS for soloing purposes.

Yeah, clerics can solo quite well at higher levels. Grab a few buffs and you can rip through AAs pretty quick in FP at 65. Ancient hammer + pet + some kinda DS + nukes = mcpwned mobs, with very little danger because of the cleric's healing abilities.

 Clerics...

Dissing cleric solo , gets you a slap.

Cleric around 40-44 + FR city , MAULS THE SHIT OUT OF EVERYTHING.

1-3 nukes = dead mob

Yes I know they can solo good high level, but I want a class that can solo 1-65 the fastest. And clerics clearly cant IMO
