Bane damage from items

Hey so maybe this is pushing the limits of information, but would it be possible to have a small message informing you that the mob you are attacking is taking extra bane damage from your weapons?

There are a few odd items that give bane humanoid and undead and EXTRAPLANAR or whatever and insect etc. and it's very hard to determine if your equipment is helping! Just a tiny message similar to the foelock message would be incredibly helpful in evaluating some of this new and really cool looking loot.
 
Your Calcified Perfection shimmers as it comes into contact with %T at engage would be pretty win
 
Sounds spammy. Not hard to implement, but spammy. May hack something up in crashville and have people try it out.
 
It would be great if it were made to only trigger this message at engage. Then it would be a totally win addition imo.
 
You weapon throbs and turgidly pulsates as it touches a decaying skeleton.
 
I was toying with:

Your <weapon name> jitters excitedly as it strikes <your target>.

So...

Your Ragecaller jitters excitedly as it strikes Mephitkalia.

But realize alot of bane damage isn't just on weapons so that wouldn't make much sense.


Perhaps something like:

Your Band of Pious Fury hungers as you engage a decaying skeleton


For some reason I just really like the idea that the weapons themselves seek the deaths of these things.

Your <weapon name> jitters excitedly as it strikes <your target>.

So...

Your Ragecaller jitters excitedly as it strikes Mephitkalia.

But realize alot of bane damage isn't just on weapons so that wouldn't make much sense.

Yeah that is incredbly badass, I need more bane dmg items now : /
 
Yeah I don't know if you would want 3 different bane humanoid slots to growl hungrily at once, but assuming your weapon gets the bonuses from all three at once it probably would be fine to just come from the weapon.

Your Fists of Warding gleams as you strike an undead patroller!
 
I would definitely want to be able to filter out the spam without filtering out important information.
 
I feel like you guys talking about spam are missing something. Every mob a warrior hits gives a message that says "You attempt lock your foe into a duel!" It says it the first time you hit every mob with anything and then never again.

This would work well for bane damage too. Also, 95% of the server wouldn't see these messages.
 
Foelock is an attribute of the mob itself. Unless you only want the first person who hits it to get the message, we won't be using the foelock system. The assumption is this is information that everyone should get.

Yeah this seriously would not qualify as spam. I think it would be a great addition since sometimes it can be a little sketchy regarding which category a mob falls into.

My suggestion is some generic message about "enchantments on ____ flaring as you close in on _____ ." I assume you could have it just select one item to mention per bane type so you don't end up with a laundry list but I mean even if you can't it's not like a short blurb about 3 items at the start of combat is going to be hard to handle.
 
What if you added a qualifier to your attack message? Like instead of "You hit an undead blah blah for 1dmg" it could be "You _______ an undead blah blah for 10dmg" and You smash a spider for 9dmg"
