So, I ran a little low on tradeskill passion and creativity after revamping Fletching, but it's time to move on to Fishing and Cooking.

I'll handle Fishing. Unless you have some amazing idea for which you can provide all of the details on in both the "what the idea is" and the "how to implement it elegantly" categories, don't say anything about it.

Now, Cooking is a bit different. Cooking as a tradeskill design needs some serious creativity, whimsy, and variety. As such, I'm making a public call for ideas. There probably won't be fame for this, and I'm not going to name food after your character. If "what's in it for me" is your attitude, then you should just stop reading now.

If you're still interested in having some influence on the Cooking tradeskill, it's time to try again with the public call for ideas. Yes, I know Wiz did this in June 2006, and nothing ever came to fruition... my turn to try.

Not revamping fishing unless someone has an idea of quality that is unprecedented amongst the SoD community. There are zones that need fish added, though. I can handle that part without extra input.

That does seem like a good idea for a specific fish I have in mind, though.
 
As creative as you want with fishing.... but if you're going to post an idea for fishing, it better be a very very long proposition with full details of everything you want, every fish, zone, /loc of fishing spot, trivial level of fish, details of everything weird, how to implement them, cost and time inventment comparisons to fishing as it stands now, balance, and power creep.

In short, if you haven't prepared a 25-page report on fishing, don't bother.

Maybe some day I'll present the 300+ hour, 42 page details on new Fletching.

Fishing will be done before Cooking, and unless there is something amazing like what I just described, the Fishing changes will be incredibly minor and Fishing additions will be more along the lines of "smoothing things out".

Can a food recipe create an item with an effect? For instances, a random, self only illusion that lasts until death or zoning? Or perhaps summoning a large feast on the ground which emits an aoe song or buff that grants everyone in the area a small stat/resist boost?

I'll give a blanket "maybe" to that question and others like it.

Keep in mind that balance will be a concern for all products of the tradeskill.

Also keep in mind that anyone insulting ideas like that in this thread will have some time where they won't be tempted to post bad things (euphemism). The worst you'd have to worry about is that members of staff would hate your ideas and just not use them. Not a huge loss, to be honest.

I tried to use a lot of items already in game that are either useless or rarely used. I guessed on the 1-100 “quality” scale as best I could, no doubt that portion could use some revision. I think the trivs are pretty fair, being based on whether the items were buyable or had to be dropped/fished/foraged, as well as level of complication, number of subcombines, and/or need for other tradeskills.

First set of recipes is for making two kinds of cakes I’ve actually been asked for in game.

Not a problem. Suggest new items, drops, groundspawns, fish, tradeskill crossovers, foraged items, etc. For that matter, having to mine your own rock salt for churning ice cream isn't out of the question.

Be creative and go for it. The editing down to what is doable is my problem, not yours.
