Ambience

I know this would he a HUGE job.. But it actually might be worth it :p And it doesn't have to be done 100% at the first time. And I'm not sure what kind of a lag it would make... Maybe everyone could download them to their EQ-folder if they wish to hear 'em, to lower the lag?

So, what I'm suggesting is:

Place more sounds into zones! Music, noise, bird song, sounds of water, wind in the trees, twigs cracking, something! Zones really lack in ambience. It really does feel sad to run in forest and all you hear is some small noise coming from your speakers...
I would really enjoy if the enviroment would be more realistic =) Forest is never quiet.. Unless some very weird powers would be on the move. So this would really make me enjoy EQ more since I don't want to listen to mp3s while playing =) It ruins the mood. Oh yeah :p I also roleplay o/

Yes, that does sound awsome. I have also always thought that there should be creatures in zones that arent for exp. Such as tiny rabbits and bats and tiny bees. These could auto fear themselves when a PC gets too close :D

I don't think Wiz & co have the resources to create ambient sounds, and if they did it'd be a lot of work when the majority of the population play without sound on.

I always play with sound on. :)

Sounds would be cool and other ambience as well, but yeah it would take a lot of work.

Yeah.. I know.. A lot of work.. :p but the sounds could always be "borrowed" from some other games or so xD And I would especially like to hear some ambience sounds in towns ^_^ would be like so cool and much more fun.

"Borrowing" sounds is a copyright issue and WR won't touch it.

There are free based soundbites that are available online. You just simply download the soundbites and use them to your hearts content. Quite a few gaming companies do this as creating them costs them time and money.

I'm not at liberty to say why or how at the moment (so don't ask), but we may seriously use this in the future. :)

And millenimy, that's actually a good idea! I might add some fleeing animals to outdoor zones sometime when we get pathing in, haha.

Oh I know there's public domain sounds out there, but just saying that borrowing from other games wouldn't be a good idea.

Yaaay ^___^ My young heart fills with joy ;D Great, ambience would really spice up the in-game feeling ^^

i would really enjoy having these ambiet sounds available... i normally tend to paly with the music off (palying something in an external mp3 player) but always have my sound effects on... only issue i would see is cpu usage and lag it may cause

speaking of which. .

Does anyone know if it would be possible to customize the sound UI without it being overwritten by the patcher every time you log in? Is it even possible to customize the sound UI? That way, we CAN use proprietary music: so long as we own it.

For examples, I could set up my attack music to play the battle music from Star Wars Ep. 1. I could make the Grobb music to be errily reminiscent of the 'Predator' soundtrack. I could use Maid Marian's theme from Robin Hood: Prince of Theives for Surefall Glade. The possibilities are endless: and it could sure help with immersion.

On the extreme end of things, I could even bind certain songs to my bard songs. . . Gloria Estefan's 'Salsa Caliente' to Jonathan's Whistling Warsong. :p (That could get a bit maddening. . .but it would still be fun)

To my knowledge, WR doesn't patch sound files. You can find the appropriate (or inappropriate in the case of Estefan) music/sounds and rename the mp3's and put them in your EQ folder.

I did it with the EQ intro. That song got old...fast. When I had music turned on my intro was the theme from Baldur's Gate 2. :)

Love the BG2...

Nice I might have to put some epic metal as my attack music then.

Might I recommend Slayer's "War Ensemble"? It's circa 1990 sir. It has been finally aged and is as brutal as the day it was bottled...

Shadowbane had some little critters that ran around. Not many, but they were there. Deer, mostly, if I remember correctly.

I love the song, if it was just the instrumental part without the vocals it'd so be my attack music. I think I found something by Rhapsody I'm going to use if I can ever connect.

a Buddy used Conflict by Disturbed as his tankin music for raids, I had Either Point of No Return by Centory or I'm Rollin' by Soul Coughing.
