Am I the only one who...

Am I the only one who sees SoD making a similar move to Live? Items and abilities getting bigger and bigger, raid tiers getting higher and higher?

I think that the codex idea is great, but when you have all of these fellows with max AA's and a codex and they then 1 group the big mobs that it takes a high level guild 18 men to kill, then what? It is an ongoing problem with MMO's, what do you do when you win?

I could see a 2nd server as an possible answer. You can only get in it once you have beaten all raid mobs and maxxed your codexes. And on the other server have every mob 2x stronger and all loot droppable. That would be a challenge. :haw:

So in the near future we'd have a server with only Zhak & Podge on it? :psyduck:

In either way, raising the bar further and further and further is somewhat of the 'live' pattern. But on the other hand, what would you have all these ppl that able to do it do?

considering Tower of Tarhyl was same tier as Thaz tower i dont really see thoose bigger and better effect. oh and inner sanctum is comming in or is out there already and its the last tier that the admins planned to do just to prevent the crazy shit +300 hp / mana items that keeps on rising on live after every 6 months when they release another expansion.

What do you do when you win ? Well the forsakens who actually won the game is in steel / Giggly school girls or some are still in forsaken . Some raids everyday , some took a break and some left the server.

You have allways the posibilety to make another char join another guild to do what ever you want. Hell tradeskilling might be fun ( i hate it ) . i know some ppl really likes fishing.

Oh then there is allways the aas / tomes and your endless farming for a charm.

Actually, I have to disagree with the OP. The admins are doing a great job balancing the high end game and even though it definitely sucks to work hard to obtain an item that eventually gets nerfed, it keeps the possibility for improvement in the future. Also, the Tomes are a great idea since not everyon can, or will ever be able to do them. You have to invest A LOT of time before you can even get the Tomes as opposed to letting some horrible player obtain level 70 and then wreck face just because they can grind a couple extra days. Having a large prerequisite for xp'ing is a great idea as it keeps the higher end people from becoming bored, and it is balancing so that not everyone becomes "uber" overnight.

I am pretty exicited about the direction of the server.

This is the whole concept of an mmorpg.
you get better and when you do you do better stuff wich makes you better.

I believe it was already mentioned that the codex won't give you crazy 10000% boost to dps, I doubt it will ever be possible to 1-group any of the highest tier content. Some things can already be 1-grouped and I doubt only the codex itself would change much regarding those and similar encounters.

Im sorry, did you just ask what happens when you WIN AN MMORPG?

You haven't played many games have you..

if you've got a problem with it, what would you suggest?

AAs were the original solution to the problem, when those were maxxed, SoD started tomes.

See, the problem with live's expansions were that it NEGATED past content. This is not the case w/ SoD

agreed. i've seen prison-geared raids wipe in nDHK. If you take a current top-level Live guild and put them in Velious dungeons, thats trivial. Even the LOWEST level raid content in SoD, like, Gnok is not soloable.

That is not necessarily the point here, since people 1 group seductress etc. Main point being content is still used. Remember how barren Kunark was from raids when Luclin/PoP came out? on down the line it was just stupid to raid past content because risk v reward was so much better in the expansions.

All content in SoD is still a viable option depending on your tier since it is constantly being balanced. New raid guilds still hit NDHK and everchill. There is no zone that is forgotten and left to nostalgia while you go xp/raid/bank in the newly implemented zones

New Planes come out and people still raid PoA/ToA
ToT comes out and people will still raid Prison

A very good viewpoint. Thank you Iaeolan. My guild is just starting in the raid scene and I had not known that the lower tiers are still anything worthwhile for the higher guilds. I really admit that I do like that the old material is not negated by new, just adds to it.

To some of the other posters, you have to remember that not all of us have been in the raid scene for 1+ years.

Pretty much what Iae said. Nothing is being made obsolete(Like what happened to Live, and even WoW with the expansion[talking about MMOs in general]), and the level cap isn't making people all powerful and uber over night.

I think one of the things is that people(Not everyone. Im referring to some people in OOC the other day) people see this new 1000 AA Codex and they freak out like it will give a HUGE bonus and make you all powerful. Wiz himself said that this won't be a huge bonus, and that the other tomes won't be huge, epic amounts of EXP. Just little specializations and such.

People fail to realize how insane 1000AAs is and how utterly worthless tomes are compared to real AAs you can get or gear. This is just an outlet for people who have gotten every worthwhile AA already to dump xp into instead of buying advanced innate wisdom etc. It's fun to xp group occasionally and this is something so there is actually even a minor incentive to xp your main rather than start an alt when you are not raiding.

sorry, i didn't really consider your 2 server idea (dedicating an entire new server where players who have spent thousands of hours on their characters would start over and abandon their characters and guildies, and have some freaky-jacked up economy with random droppables, which would make it so that the new 2nd server would have to be balanced, and eventually, everyone from server 1 would transfer to server 2, thus making all the work of server 1 obselete...) to be a real suggestion.

what would you suggest within the original server?

No, really, don't hold back :haw:

I look forward to the release of the kunark zones and what they may bring with them. As for other ideas of what to do in this server, no magic pill coming from me.

that was amazingly flame-less and held-back. =). but yeah... I really really have thought many times, in every MMO i've been involved in, of trying to figure out creative ways to progress that don't completely screw old content.

i'm not being sarcastic at all when i tell you dank, that if you figure out a way to do that, that doesn't separate players, that doesn't mudflate, that actually "feels" like real progress, you'd have the idea of the century for the gaming world.
