Account Drive 2013?

Honestly I found that the bonus XP did more harm then good. I saw plenty of people start playing but quit once they got to 65 and the bonus ended. It was like they were flying through the levels and then hit 65 and are getting a huge amount of AAs. Then the bonus xp ends and they are just kind of like 'fuck it' when they have to get XP at the regular rate. It kind of spoils them and then when they realize that it involves effort, they quit.

If anything it should work for players not level 65 only and give less bonus xp the closer you get to 65.

Lastly, the akheva in the MoP shouldn't go after players under level 25 or so.

Let me see if I follow here...
People "quit once they got to 65 and the bonus ended."
So the solution is to...
"give less bonus the closer you get to 65"
/profit?

I am also not sure "effort" is the right word. Killing the same things two or three times as often for the same reward sounds a bit more like "time sink".

Quarterly account drives and a permanent xp bonus based on server funds (two birds, one stone) please.

I would like to go on the record as being completely for another round of (reportedly) spending thousands of dollars for a net loss of avg server population.

It's been a while since I put a lower level through mop, but I think I ran out of dudes to hit the last time I leveled an alt. You get like 5 chances. Guess that's what happens when you advertize to retarded redditors.

I guess I phrased it wrong. I meant that new players start during an account drive and getting massive xp is all they know. Then when the bonus ends and they realize that now its going to take three times as long and just lose interest. I saw it happen with a bunch of people. Its not like it happens with every new player but I would say that a lot of the new players gained from account drives dont last past a few weeks after it ends.

The flat out worst thing about starting on this server is being alone. Solo is not really an option for almost anyone any class, especially someone unfamliar with the game. There are too many other options that are more rewarding out there. We need better marketing to get people finding us online and faster rewards to players who are under level 25. If I have fun right away I will keep coming back. If I get bored I'm just going to kick on the Xbox and play halo. The only reason I started was because I had two old eq friends playing and we could group from thestart.

Why not have a "recruit-a-friend" program that is always in effect? I really don't know the specifics on how it would work, but I think it could help bring the numbers up a bit. Also the new players that try the server and stay, would hopefully also recruit people etc.

I just think having a permanent recruit system in place would be better than the "drives" once-twice a year.

Recruit-a-friend with free accounts would just mean "recruit yourself, then 2box for bonus exp". That idea has been thrown around, but it would need something to make it viable. What that something is, /shrug.

Why not make it so that if the person you recruit becomes a donator of a certain level, then the bonus exp ( or whatever you award people ) takes effect?

This way even if people want to do this on their own with 2 boxing, you are still going to benefit the server in the end, the server will generate revenue, and people will get what they want anyway.

Also, people who don't want to pay for a donator status on two accounts would be trying to recruit people.

There should also be different tiers of bonuses in a system like this, that way you get other rewards depending on how many people you recruit to the server (and they become a certain level donator status). Maybe fame or something like that.

That seems like a better idea if you're trying to increase server revenue rather than population.

Progression problems.

Game needs more progression options for fresh players. Everyone think about the current state of the game and think of a zone that is good for fresh lvl 65 to get some gear, that a group of fresh 65s would be capable of doing without a ringer.

...

Cant think of any. Cmal would be my best bet..the gear is on par with Deepmetal/Shadowsilk. But you need a ringer tank to get through it, no way a fresh 65 tank in warpmetal would have a chance in hell in CMal. Cmal is a good model to use, gear is all no drop so wouldnt be farmed by high toons for coin. Just need to tone it down a bit to accommodate. It helps everyone really, helps the new players..and gives the old vets better quality new players to group with.

Its pretty sad that someone gets to lvl 65..and then has to hope and pray some high lvl folks have mercy on them for a few month while they gather AA and gear beyond soft leather.

For CMal all you really need is a well played, well balanced group, and you can probably clear 1 and 2. Overgrowth is a really cool zone and something like that tuned down a bit, with all drops being no drop would be pretty cool. Not to mention there is a really cool zone where gear doesnt matter that gives really good exp dollars but requires people to be good and pay attention to things(Nadox).

You are absolutely out of your mind if you think cmal 1 or 2 needs to have a ringer tank to do them. you really need to re-evaluate your group / people you play with if you think this is so. Cmal 1 and 2 can be done 100% w/o ringers. Yes its going to be tougher without them but the game isnt suppose to be ezpz here get all the free loots.

Before thade went ape shit twinking his alt we did cmal 1 and 2 ringer-less and twink-less. Honestly it was loads of fun.

You need some johnson and johnson no more tears baby shampoo.

yea you are pretty crazy if you think you need a ringer tank. people can solo cmal 1, a new tank wearing VE and E map gear (which you could get as a 65 wearing mithril) is more then enough to tank cmal 1.

Even through summoner (does summoner still exist?). On tier tanks in cmal 3 isn't unreasonable.

A good easy way to get more drops for fresh 65s (and even pre-65s) is to increase the items in treasure maps. Not more drops, but a lot more different drops of simular value.

Add 6 or 8 items in the loot tables to these maps and players will do them more beause they can get more (different) loot.

Edit...
Also wouldnt hurt to add some items to the Bounty system in Thurg. Would be cool to do 100 level 1 bounties for a BP or Shoulder item.

Thread is getting off topic so to get back on track my 2 cents:

basically the account drive is only useful if we can retain the new recruits.

There are technical issues that need to be fixed as a matter of urgency such as the log-on and zoning crashes that started at about the same time as the new server.

Desperately need the new client as it's one thing for old hacks like myself to put up with graphic glitches but another for people starting out.

Need to recognise that quite a few new players need time to get used to the game and obstacles such as MoP only discourage them especially those with huge lag where mobs don't path they just jump. If you played EQ before fine but many have not and what is obvious to seasoned veterans can be totally opaque to totally new players.

The Devs do a great job individually but the game has become so complex now there has to be a 'corporate strategy' about game development and item nerfing/enhancement.

I do think the numbers of new players is now so low we should consider making it easier to solo. Non US players hardly have any players at their levels between 20 and 50 at their peak times.

Finally, need to have a constructive discussion on what we can and cannot do in way of game changes without people trolling or being dismissive about anything they disagree with. Need to recognise that many people will enjoy the game even if they don't play it particularly well and at the end of the day these are the people that buy the gear off professional farmers.

This is a really good post.

I think expanding character progression on tomes was a very bad idea long-term. Doesn't add any flavor whatsoever to your character ( minus a few specifics ). That idea should have stopped after tomes of power and a few others off of very specific and very hard mobs. And they should definitely not be as rampant as they are now.
