Zone/Mob Flexibility

Was curious as to how much flexibility on zone design, NPC design, you guys have.

Always wanted to see if there was a way to do a zone like this:

Strategic zone with end boss.

4+ Mini-bosses each with a random "phrase" on a "colored" parchment.

End boss has timed triggers, or random timed triggeres based on his "colored aura" forming around him. Whoever is the holder of the parchments has to say the phrase within a certain time in order to:

1. Prevent temporary invincibilty
2. Increased Damage/Speed Mode
3. Rampage/Flurry Mode
4. AoE Mana Drain
5. AoE DD

Any number of combinations. "Color" could determine what could/would happen.

Example:
Kill mini-bosses, collect the colored parchments.

1. Green - "Charalt de Froe"
2. Red - "Dek rak Prat"
3. Gold - "de Prat Dek"

End Boss concentrates as a RED aura begins to form around him.
<timer starts>

Person X says, 'Dek rak Prat'

End Bosses concentration shatters and is disrupted.

End Boss concentrates as a GREEN aura begins to form around him.

Person X says, 'Dek rak Prat'
<oh no wrong one!>

End Boss dispurses a large cloud of deadly green poison!

Everyone takes AoE poison damage.

End Boss concentrates as a YELLOW aura begins to form around him.

Person X says, 'Charalt de Froe'
<omg Person X sucks again>

End Boss becomes protected with a golden shroud of invincibility.

Person X could be me with my leet typing skills :D

I dont know whether our client is able to handle such scripts or not, but honestly: let's stick to the good old "Let's figure out what this Mob does and how we can handle it" way and not start a typing skill contest.

I remember friends from Darkwind guild crying over a script where you had to react on voice events. So no MP3s, people who play w/o sound were screwed. There were people which found that fun, but those were very few. So better not ;)

The undead performer event from Dreadspire

I heard a horror story of something like a 6 hour long encounter with those guys from my neighbor who plays eqlive still

Also, on live, the overlord mata murram (spelling?) fight has a text part very similar to what xardon suggested, and the whole entire fighr comes down to wither or not the people type correctly.

I dont like this idea because it turns the game, as you said, into "typing of the dead pt2: everquest style"
