World drops

Any explanation why they are no drop?

Seems like more might be used if they were bind on equip, right now need to be lucky to have one drop, and be on the right toon at the time.

That's why they're fun!!!! They are purely for flavor and the small frequency of them around makes it all the more special. I've had two drop in the past week on my warrior that I will keep indefinitely and throw on purely for entertainments sake. (One is a 1hb weapon that looks like a giant backpack the size of a dark elf)

I can't really speak for the Dev Team, but the obvious reason seems to be "they aren't meant to be sold".

I don't know some seem useful, like the plus fishing earring sure there would be a market for that. Just figured someone didn't want to set vendor prices. :)

Its more likely they didnt want people killing mass green con mobs to get these to sell to other players...

Well, you can only get them on mobs that still yield exp.

Since they aren't terribly great anyway and usually have some special ability for their respective levels (rat king chest 2% crit but detrirmental proc), the market would probably be flooded with them even if there aren't many out there.

I am glad people seem to like the global drops it has been a pain in the ass to get feedback from the new/untwinked players they were geared towards.

Being no-drop and rare gave me a little more freedom with how good I made the items (which I admit probably don't seem that great to twinks, haha) without fear of displacing sellable stuff like tradeskill gear, I think being able to trade and sell them would take away from the entire premise. As for the +fishing earring I have to admit I added that just to mess with fishing people as the idea of a guy cursing his inability to get that extra +1 or explocking at a low level in an effort to obtain it cracks me up.

How is the proc detrimental? Is it targeting the player? I swear I tested that and it worked fine. I should also add that the 60+ items are probably the worst just because it would have been impossible to really have them compete with the insane range of droppable gear around those levels.

Oh also I have mulled over whether or not they are too rare for a long while now and it is very tough to say. Sometimes I see people leveling up with 3 of the items then there are people telling me they haven't even seen a single one of the items in all this time.

In regards to the Rat King proc: I don't have the item so I might have gotten the spell effect completely wrong. I thought it summoned a pet that aggros on the user. My mistake.

In regards to this post, I think the rarity on them is fine. There will always be people that see more, and others that see less. I have a twink warrior/cleric duo right now, that i've pretty much grinded myself to 36, and have had about 4-5 drops. Old burial coin, enchanted sack of rocks (the best thing that's ever happened to me in SoD), mantle of freshly cut flowers, Brownie Prince's Hauberk (l-o-fucking-l), and some other item I can't recall atm. A few of those i've never seen linked over /ooc or heard of. I think being so rare they make them that much more cherished and hilarious, I've only had use for two of those items and only for very briefly, but i'll probably have a bank slot saved for them for what i said earlier (entertainments sake). If the drop rate is like .01%, maybe something VERY minute, like .03% would be warranted, but pleeeease nothing major. The surprise factor is awesome.

Thats how rare drops always work, some people will get lots and others will get none.

I have personally seen quite a few drop just from raiding 3 days a week.

You might actually be right about this and I'm looking into it now so thanks for bringing it to my attention either way!

This is one of my favourite items, I should really go back and give it some fun lore. I want to say there are roughly 100-120 global drop items total and yeah a ton of them have not made it to the wiki / I have not heard of anyone getting them (not to say they haven't). By all means if people have issues with any of the items, stats or whatever, let me know.

To play on that idea, it would be awesome if there was a weapon where it looks like you're holding a gnome in your hand to beat people with. Probably not possible, but would be amazing.

Gnomes are throwing weapons though. Ask Tarutao about the details. /em runs away hiding.

When kicked, Tarutao does a really big AE that damages the target and the kicker.

He's also been rednamed for 3 weeks, and 3 weeks ago the kicks stopped. Interesting.

Back on topic, creating weapon graphics is ... "nontrivial" ...

If one of you reading this is a 3d graphic designing genius, maybe you should be applying to the dev team... kdko's suggestion is awesome but currently not really an option...

just my testimony, i spent early march levelling a BST from 1 to 55. he saw "only" three world drops (all while solo). None of the three were BST usable, and one was knight only. I let them all rot.

I have seen some neat ones drop tho on other toons. My 65 sK randomly got the glowly shield in FP which was cool. I've seen even filthier ones linked in ooc and dalaya's beginners.

Great design.

edit: fomelo'd him and forgot the one i got at like level 8 in a BB group that had a block mod on it. still wearing that one. like i said, neat.

Earlier this week, I spent 5 hours soloing on my rogue (not boxing, just soloing). I got 4 world drops. I'm used to getting 1 every 2 hours. It could just be my incredible Cless luck, like winning 2 different Tome of Vitality 2 during consecutive Citadel groups.
