Wizarding race

Hey guys, looks like I'm trying this thing again, and with a group of friends. Currently leaning towards a wizard, so I'm curious what you guys think about race choices for them, do they matter? Which ones are most/least populated?

I don't think I'm interested in erudite/human, so that leaves dark elf, gnome, froglok, high elf. High elves seem like they have crazy good racial abilities and stats. I know stats aren't too huge, long term, but are their racial abilities too good to pass up, or are they not as big of a deal as they seem like they are?

High Elf and Human have the best wiz racials IMO. Dark Elf 2% crit at night is decent too but night is only like 1/3 of the time ingame.

Generally, the theme for picking a race is pick it based on the one you like the most. The racial abilities have been changed/enhanced before so there is no telling if they may be enhanced or changed again. So, word of the wise, pick one you like to look at/experience the game.

At least that is my take on it.

That's kind of what I figured, thanks. As long as the high elf racials aren't grossly overpowered, I think I'm between froglok and gnome at this point.

I guess another question I should have asked is where to place starting points. Is there an "obvious" choice, or does it depend on race picked? I know intelligence is supposed to be easily capped later, but if I picked froglok, would it still be better to not put points there? Is it better to go something like stamina which is harder to raise, or charisma because of the hidden strength over-cap?

Personally I would only pick erudite if I was to make a wizard.

As far as starting stat points it really doesn't matter / It's up to what your ultimate goal will be. CHA will give you the best return if this is your first character and you're just looking to have fun. However, CHA and more so INT is rather easy to cap out at the higher end of the game. At this point you migbt look back and wish you had more wis for healing crits (from Tome of the Mind) or possibly some more agi and/or sta to live a second longer when you pull aggro from poor playing.

For the racials or because you like them? I just noticed the erudite +1% crit is decent, wasn't really considering them, largely based on vision annoyingness.

whatever race you think looks the coolest. The difference between racial is pretty minimal although erudite/dark elf do have the 2 best racials. People bring one person over another because of how they play the game, not what race they picked.

I personally don't think they look very cool but that 1% spell crit all the time seems much better than anything else for a wizard. They really benefit from crit like none other.

Tev is wrong. The only reason people play with me is because I'm the best race in the game: halfelf. Now that I look like a darkelf no one wants to group with me.

Hey so bumping this with a racial question-

Wiki lists Erudite as having 1% spell crit
Tome of Knowledge does not

They have the other erudite racials the same. So does anyone know for sure whether or not Erudites get 1% crit?

I recall a similar problem having come up a year and a half or so ago. Somebody was confused as to whether or not Barbarians got a 1% melee crit bonus, as one source said yes and the other source didn't mention it at all. I forget what the outcome was or where the exchange happened on the forums, so I suppose I'm not much help on the matter.

Man you're gonna make me go look this up? That sounds like work.

Heh I'll have to do it later when I have my VM open again.
