Why make soloing difficult at low levels?

This server has some differences over live that just make you go, what?

Why does dot damage break root? DD's breaking root was added a fuck long time ago because wizards could kill a mob in 20 seconds, short enough so that only one was needed and very little chance to have an add run along into you. DoT's breaking root makes zero sense because the danger of an add is greater and you will need to reapply most likely anyway when you're taking a minute+ to kill.

Secondly, and more importantly. it seems like during mid teen levels you basically have to level in blackburrow or warrens. With so few people on the server there often just isn't room for people, so you're forced to try and solo inside the dungeons where one wrong move means a death. Are there any outdoor zones to solo in? West karana with its 1 mob every 5 min density doesn't fucking count. The level map shows a huge majority of the zones are designed for higher levels which is good, but why do you make it overly difficult to level up early when the server has such few people on it anyway?

Most of the wastes of tarhyl and sundered mountains are mid teens as well. As is lesser faydark and even some of steamfont. And yes western badlands counts because I've leveled two characters there for spurts at a time and didn't really have any problems soloing.

There's also east wastes and parts of everfrost if you feel like exploring some before sitting down to level.

Got annoyed trying to level in BB, either solo or with a group.

So I went to badlands and bow kited, course I have the advantage of track so could always find mobs, got from 12 - 20 here, will probably get to 22 before moving on.

My main problem isn't getting exp, its the weight of armour / weapons, the newbie ranger bow is 11weight...crazy, is it a lead bow? :p I had to ditch all my bags for wrist pouches, as they weigh less, meaning I can carry less. I guess this is probably just a downfall of playing an elf, I can accept that, but doesn't make it any less annoying :)

As I play a feeble elf with no str buffs yet, I cannot wear a full suit of chainmail etc (which doesn't actually matter when soloing, as things dont hit me.) Of course in the future this shouldnt matter with +str items etc, but makes it tough to get loot to sell to make plat to buy better gear etc etc.

DoT damage doesn't break root, only DD damage. Some DoTs have an initial DD that hits before the dot, sometimes that will break root, however the ticks will not break root.

Yah, some shaman dots have a dd before the DoT starts, I think all of them (only poison ones I believe), until the highest level ones, unless this has changed on SoD. Druid dots dont have a DD at all ever, if I remember right.

Shaman DoTs have a DD at the start of their DoTs. And necros have DoTs that start with a DD, and some that don't.

Actually, from what I remember both slows and DoTs have a chance each tick to break the low level roots. As you get to maybe the third (?) root spell, that no longer seems to be the case. It was most definitely on the tick that it broke, not just randomly ending--the root would break right when the DoT did its damage.

Unless its different on SoD slows shouldnt break root, doesnt mean a root wont auto break when you happen to land a slow though.

No.

The reason the root would break when the DoT did damage is because the two spells simultaneously do their tick checks.

I have to agree with the 'its a little bit hard for low to mid levels' theme tho, and my reason is especially that it seems there is a big group of higher level people who farm the 'easy' mobs in the warrens and blackburrow, leaving nothing to kill for those who need to level there. I havent explored much other areas (mainly because i have no clue how to reach them from newport), and karana with those Centaurs that kill me in one blow is a bit dangerous.

This is pretty silly. High levels reaping all of Blackburrow is kind of rare, Everfrost next door goes all the way up to level 30, and the centaurs are perfectly avoidable. Not to mention you can ride a boat for five minutes and hunt around Erudin.

Shrouded island! My home away from home. Come for the XP, stay for the service! Levels 9 to 32 or a little higher are very doable here.

Hehe, i tried that boat thing and ended up in freeport the other day....now i thought....wow cool, a whole noob area just for myself, and it took about....3 seconds til i met my first 'citizen' and thought 'oh cool, a whole death, just for myself!!!' :) Anyways, maybe i just dont know enough yet, but i seem to have a hard time. the first 8 levels were fairly easy, but then i kept running around, with no real idea where to go to. People told me to try balckburrow, but that was always crowded. In the Newport sewers a bunch of redconned players ran ahead of me killing everything with one blow. Warrens was like blackburrow, pretty crowded. And about avoiding the centaurs...i tried a few times, and it wasnt THAT easy :) Dont get me wrong, i like this game of yours even better then the original, and maybe instead of just complaining i will write a 'noob guide to Dalaya' to tell the NEW players (yes, theres a steady flow of noobs coming in as far as i can tell) where they can go. But until then i need to find out for myself. And thats the painful process :)
I also tried 2boxing, but that was too annoying to always hop between 2 screens, trying a wizard and ranger at the same time. Are there any macros to make it easier?
And to make it clear: When i say 'a little bit hard' i mean it. Its a little bit hard. Not impossible. And If it wasnt a challenge everyone would be 65 in 3 days, right? And that would be boring.
Anyways, since i hope youll read this post one more time: Keep up the good work, wiz, and all other Gm's, and as soon as im financially able i will start supporting you by donating.

exp

This server has some of the most liberal XP i have seen while still being balanced. I have no problems leveling up to 20 in just a few hours of play, soloing and with some grouping.

My biggest anxiety is that I KNOW that there are all kinds of +25 New Area Bonuses greening out because I am leveling too fast to vistit them all. :( I am greedy I want them all. I have toyed with the idea of making a tour of all the lower level zones just so I can make use of the fresh, tasty bonuses, but I figure that the travel time would actually slow down the leveling even though the exploring is fun. Heck I spent an afternoon farming light blues for an item that I wanted in a zone with a 15% ZEM and STILL gained a level. You have to be AFK in this game not to level and that is only if you are soloing.

There are all kinds of great spots at all lower levels. I have found a number of solo and duo experience grinding spots that hardly ever have other folks visiting them. I can't believe that I am so clever as to have found the best spots. There have to be more.

Fearstone Keep off of Gfay also is a decent place to exp in. Not quite sure on levels but a group in mid teens would be ok. Maybe even low teens ala Warrens. Problem is that it is a pain to get to and nearest town is too far.

Fearstone sucks because of all the mobs that cast fear and harm touch. Boy are there a lot of those.

Now mielech A, that's where the cool kids go.

Mid teens, go to everfrost... the triangle up north where the river splits.

Orcs, orcs, orcs.

Low 20s, go to Northern Badlands.

Mid 20s, go to Southern Badlands.

High 20s got o Eastern Badlands.

At any level, join a group. Warrens, Bancak, First Ruins, Mielich A.

If you do not know how to get anywhere, EXPLORE... If you die, you have 100% debt., YOU CANNOT GET ANYMORE. EXPLORE!!!!

Fearstone was pretty soloable with my wizard , yes it has NASTY mobs , but its more about knowing what to pull and how to handle the zone. (Stay the shit away from the mines)
