This thread is in response to QQ's and butthurt feelings about why SK's should do codex's prior to random tank tomes. Feel free to throw in all sorts of insight, regardless of validity. Comic relief is also welcome. PS -> if you've done full codex's on more than 3 toons, u should post that, so we can all be jealous of your resilient patience.

i think putting xp into life tap tomes would be better for the xp to benefit ratio.

would be about the same. i would recommend doing defensive tomes first but 20% more on lifetaps is nothing to scoff at
 
Yeah, codexs arent the most effective tomes for a SK, but after tank tomes they are probably your next best option.

but in the exp amount for cop 5 you can do about 8 defensive tomes and lifetap 1 and 2, and still have exp left over so defensive tomes are ideal first for a tank.
 
Do defensive tomes first, but CoP are better than magic or lifetap tomes because they provide a similar boost to lifetaps, but also help meele damage, spears, heal clickies, etc.

Last time I checked with the authority magic tomes did not affect lifetaps.
Spear of agony is dogshit. No resist adjust , 1 min cooldown. Better just taking sublimate soul.

Again do not bother with that shit unless you have runic 1 or absolutely nothing else to do.
 
What non-defensive tome is better? Even if you just look at meele damage, its a nice little boost for non-raid situations. CoP will help HTs too

I maybe would have agreed here when you could actually use more than one. But with a single harmtouch its overrated.
Also glyph of shiritri should be the first thing you do.

Oh yeah glyph is pretty strong, and very little exp.

I still think CoP>spellcrit/FT

1 FT is really insignificant, 100mana on a 10min fight. Spellcrit is 1% extra spell dps, much less efficient than a CoP.

There is no one thing that is amazing about SK dps, but between spears and meele and taps and HT, I've certainly seen them add worthwhile amounts of damage for 6man or exp groups.
 
Spell crit isn't about the dps. Its about the crits actually having a significant impact on your health. If you don't have vah/sraen/harmtouch up you basically are left to pray for crit taps or leeching+ runic 1 to crit.
 
Its 2% chance a crit tap vs 4% overall dps. Either can be the deciding factor on a lucky/superclose fight. The crit is better raiding, but I'd still rather CoP for a duo/6man/exp.

Another factor is that CoPs are a lot cheaper per exp, saving $ for a better charm is a massive defensive boost once you get it.
