Where to start...

Hi - I am a level 55 ranger. This is my first real character on SoD. I read up on raid tiers and what not, but really where does one start to progress.

I guess I should start with this. I am not a guild hopper, I just don't do it. I want to be in a raiding guild, but to be in a raiding guild I feel like i need to be 65 with a billion AAs and already have raid gear to raid with them. If im totally delusional, please tell me.

I am a talented EQ player and a veteran to MMO gaming and raiding. I love SoD, i just feel overwhelmed and at the same time not knowing where to begin.

Do people still raid the lower tiers? if so I need to get in contact with these people. Is it worth me staying at 55 and getting some AAs and praying to get into a traek / nalia / pounders groups, or save this for an alt? Some people have told me yes, some have said no.

I posted this in the guild discussion because personally I would love to join a guild, but I want to join a guild that raids and I am very much OK with setting nights aside to raid. (aka be part of a raiding schedule).

Before writing this last paragraph I read through the entire post. It does sound a bit whiny, but I truly would appreciate some advice in this matter. There is a lot of game ahead of me and im excited to experience it.

If you really want to raid, I would just get to 65, and get started on your AAs. The T-map system and tradeskilled gear will let you essentially "start" your raiding career around tier 3 or so.

Every guild has their own requirements for joining, but they tend to be about the same depending on what tier the guild is currently raiding. As a DPS class, you can reasonably expect to be picked up by literally just about any guild at any tier as long as your basics are covered (your main quest, and at least a rank or two into your faction aug) and you show that you play a lot, and are gaining xp at a solid rate. This server places a lot more value on your experience numbers and personally observed skill level/competence than it does on your gear...gear's easy to fix!

If you really want to wow a raiding guild on your app, have some of your vah quest knocked out as well.

As far as traek/etc goes, I'd say if there's a raid when you're passing through those levels, hit it up, but I wouldn't halt your progression on your first toon for them, especially if your aim is post 65 raiding.

Looking at your toon in particular, my suggestions would be to hit the wiki and make a quick list of vah quest items for the early quests, then burn down the rest of your main quest (I'm thinking mostly about the anti-magic plating here, b/c nobody seems to like going to heartland undercaverns, so why go an extra time for a missed quest item?). I don't know if you've already picked a faction or not, but I think your "best" option (I say this loosely) would be to swear to Sihala on the Island of Voices, and join the Silver Crown faction. This would also give you a deity aug quest that's already in-game, another bonus for prospective guilds to look at favorably when they see that you've done what you can on it. Hit up the t-maps hard and heavy, the wiki has a full list of what drops where, pick out what you want and warm up your lucky dice! While you're on the t-maps, make sure you watch for the t-map quest items. Melees get a pretty nice reward from it, which can be further upgraded into a VERY nice reward through the vah quest. Two other quests worth keeping an eye out for are the Charter of Kelethin quest and the Old Man's Wish. When it's time to hit up elds for your xp, snag you some charter pages for a very nice shoulder item, and a handy pet-shrinker for people like Aisling who have to have giant damn frogs shitting up your screen on raids. As far as the Old Man's Wish goes, keep an eye on /who all sunmines for groups or duo plat farmers. Most of these people wouldn't mind at all letting you sit in group for xp/quest drops that are rotting anyway, and might even welcome a tracker if they don't have one in their duo already. I would also start pinching pennies and socking away your plats into the almighty charm fund!

Essentially, on this server, if you can show you have a lot of free time, and you use that free time constructively (lol) to better your toon in any way you can....guilds will fall in love with you, and rain phats upon you from above.

Haha - wow dimmi. Thats exactly the kind of advice I was looking for. Thanks! Yeah, I heard Tmaps are the way to go, ill have to check them out.

I looked through the deities and actually had Sihala as one of the few I was willing to join. I have joined Silver Crown already, I got the soldier rank with them. I am on the undercaverns part of my main quest as well.

Almost everything you see on me I have gotten myself (in a group.. etc etc). Very few items have been purchased or given to me.

This big time, most guilds look for people who are dedicated and have play time. Gear, while somewhat important, is usually not a factor in guild recruiting as it is super easy to get.

.

you should pledge tarhyl, that way you can fail @ progressing end-game and become a ToT tracker.

Also +1 for playtime.

Beating a dead horse here but yeah the quality of the player, and the amount of productive time you devote to your character, is greater then any amount of gear.

I truly makes me happy to hear all these testimony of this. I will continue to plow my way to 65, although since ive been playing with a couple of friends that I met on the server, Im gonna wait till I have my first 12 archetype aas before moving on. Its fun to have a consistent group of people to play with that are on Teamspeak so all our groups go smoothly.

Don't forget that Mumble via the patcher is an option should TeamSpeak no longer be available. Also, the best qualities to have apping for a raid guild are a long attention span and the ability to follow directions.

Attention span is almost more important than having enough play time to get the AAs you need. Seriously.
