Where did you level 1-65?

wazz

Dalayan Beginner
I am trying to think of a different path then I took on Wazz,
rerolling a Monk/Shaman just trying to think of a different ways.

It's been a long time, but with Bud it went something like:

-Beginner grounds off Sadri from 1-10ish.
-Upper Guk from 10-20ish.
-A combination of Kaladim and Yaralith from 20-30ish.
-I did 30-45 almost completely in Heartlands.
-Most of 45-50 was spent in West Freeport killing shadows.
-Lasanth from 50-55ish, then I farmed Harthuks all the way to 60.
-After 60 it was mostly DN and Seb to 65.

back in my day it was first ruins from 20---TIMES HAVE CHANGED

I actually only did FR once when I was leveling. I don't know why.

I leveled very slowly on Calaran, but my alts have moved more quickly and this is what I've done:

Yard trash newbie zone til 8 or 10 or whatever (NNP turn-ins of beetle shells or whatever makes this fast).
Blackburrow until mid-late teens.
Warrens until 20
Warpstone 20-34 (boring but may be the best xp/fastest 14 levels you'll ever get)
Kaladim / Paw / King's Pass all work from 34-40
Heartlands 40-51
Harthuks 51-60
and then there are a ton of zones after that.. soloing in EPL/WPL, deep Lasanth, Eld's, Orc Fort in East Wastes and TMAPS TMAPS TMAPS... from 60-64 (stopped here for some AA's) I have done prolly 50% of my XP on tmaps. You get great XP, fight in zones you prolly don't have -New Area Bonus in, and you get gear upgrades unless you're a rich twink.

Let me say that most of this progression was best for where groups were that I could just jump in on, and required as little travel as possible (main reason for NNP -> blackburrow -> warrens). Much of it is not particularly exciting and many of the zones (Warpstone, HLP Robots, Harthuks) have basically no worthwhile loot... just XP.

The following may not be all of your options, but hopefully will be most of them.
1-5: South Newport/Stinger's Bog/Newbie Hunting Zones
6-10: Centaur Hills/Newport Sewers
11-20: Warrens/Blackburrow/Mielech A
21-30: Warpstone/Mielech A
31-40: Kaladim/Paw
41-50: Heartlands/Mielech B
51-60: Lasanth/Harthuks/Start Sorcerer's Labyrinth/Start Dreadfang Spire
61-64: Dragon Necropolis/Eldenals/EW Orcs/Tmaps

I know it wasn't part of your question, but as for 65 XP zones, there are a lot of options:

Easy: Eldenals/Dragon Necropolis/EW Orcs/Red Sun Mines/Tmaps (VE, E)/Mielech C/Deep Sorcerer's Labyrinth
These any entry level 65 could do.

Medium: Fire Grottos/High Keep/Kedge Keep
These you will want a decent group to do.

Medium-Hard: Everchill Caverns/Start First Ruins/Begin Catacombs/Cyrtho Malath/Dragonhorn Keep
You will want a good, solid group for these to avoid wipes.

Hard: Emberflow/First Ruins Bloodfires/End Catacombs
You will want a good, raid-geared group for these.

Note that the harder the zone gets, the better your group should be, but the better experience you will get from it - Eldenals gives around 4-5k per kill, but FR Bloodfires can give up to 15-20k for a single kill for instance.

i sat afk at treants from lvl 1 i have gotten 500aa and 3.6 tomes

treants good shit man

Thanks for all your different locations. I will keep track of where I hunt and contribute as well so others will be able to use this for their own purpose.

With Konad - I used my monk to do all the turn in quests from all the different zones and then did MQ (complete by level 40 on konad via monk help) and leeched xps off all tmaps so I could score my tmap quest earring by level 50. At level 55 I farmed the crap out of lasanth solo (did 80aa's in there)... from 56 to 65 I did first ruins, ec and hhk.

I did 56 to 65 in only 18 hours (no banding, no leeching, just raw nasty PuG's).

Ya, I was lazy in the beginning, but at the end, I really went into hyper drive.

Keep in mind i BOXED ranger / druid ( porting efficiency for the win ! :D )

1-17 BlackBurrows and a few other newbie zones i recall
17-30 Warpstone Caverns and Shrouded island
31-44 Kings Pass , Paw, Badlands in general ( ranger quests )
45-55 Freeport, Sorc lab, Lasanth
55 + Everywhere else ! From Dragon Necropolis to going back to Freeport, Sorc Lab.

My route on Ayzai was:

1-10 Tipt, treacherous crags
10-25 Runnyeye
25-32 Warpstone
32-40 Kingspass and some Paw.
40-48 Heartlands robots
48-51 Faentharc Gemathians
51-59.9999999 Simple Tmaps and stopping at 57 for Traekoth.
60-65 Mostly VE, E and Modmaps and some DN with that.

My Path

I'm only 57 but this has been my path so far. As first characters I went with loot driven areas after 40. What I have been able to get on my own so far can be fomelo'd. Irkura (monk) Mulcis(Shm)

1-8 Newport
8-12/13 Newport Sewers
13-22 Warrens
22-25 Bandits in North Badlands
25-35 (Forget all of it, but cats in South Badlands, some quests)
35-39/40 highpass
40-47/48 Spectres in Goblinskull mountains
48-51 Heartland Robots
51-55 Lasanth(tmap) (lasanth went old area penalty around AA 12)
56 Freeport (Setup at zoneline to north freeport and pull skeles all day)
57 Sorcerer's lab ramp area.

Currently holding at 57 for traek, have about 18 AA's on both characters and have accumulate my gear mostly on my own. I'm sure there are faster ways, but I choose the path to make plat as I leveled as new toons.

18 hours?! Has it gotten easier to lvl since i quit in 04? I remember it taking a good day in a decent group to lvl...

Here I'll throw in some other level stuff too:

The Wind Hag adept is an awesome one to kill since the 4 adds each give adept experience. Between the hag and the adds you can get pretty much all of level 25 in ~5 minutes. Just be sure the people you go with can actually kill her.

The turnin quests in the badlands are good to do if you're 2boxing or can't find a full group anywhere. These quests span the 20s and 30s.

Spectres in GSM or the smaller camps in the badlands are great money and decent exp in the 40s. There aren't really enough for more than a good soloer or 2boxer though, so a full group will be bored.

Other than these, the typical places like Warpstone for the 20s, Kaladim/Kingspass for 30s, Robots for 40s, Lasanth to 55, etc are generally the best places (that's why everyone recommends them, seriously).

Just remember it's almost always better to be in a full group, regardless of zone. 6 people are capable of killing a lot faster than 2-3 and you get the same exp per kill.

If you're referring to Konad's post, let me clarify. EC/FR/HHK are 65+ exp zones. He either was leaching from uber characters slaughtering the entire zone for cash, or was in exp groups on his 65 monk and also had his rogue in the group. A typical 50s/60s pickup group would not be able to gain experience at a tenth of that rate, if they could kill anything in those zones at all.

In HHK I got a pally friend of mine 60% of level 64 and 12 AAs in about 2 hours, and my monk got 16 AAs that same night (I was still under 50 total, so that rate definitely doesn't stay the same for long.)

Getting a level or two a day at levels 50+ is a more typical rate.

Let me clarify, Yes. I grouped and grinded with NO bands, NO leeching... Just massive Pick Up Groups on my Rogue. 18 hours... Single (i didnt box).

Were the other members in your groups in their late 50s and sub-65 like you, or were they 65+ with high tier gear?

If it was the former, I'm calling bullshit. If it's the latter, that's still "leaching" since you were contributing ~5% of the group DPS and no utility or anything else.

This is entirely possible with great PUGs. This means the players played their classes well, the group had good balance and could nearly chain-pull (yes this is entirely possible without high tier gear), didn't wipe, didn't need to reform constantly due to people leaving, etc.

Usually that doesn't happen though, most groups will have player turnover every 1-2 hours even if they keep exp'ing consistently, and even good groups are sometimes faced with the "o CRAP" pull where they wipe and have to reform, etc. etc.

Those of us used to a 30 minute buffbot prep before every exp grind (and in between every wipe) might not believe the above - that just goes to show how spoiled we are. Gear can compensate for a lot of crappy playing, but skilled players can more than compensate for lack of gear.

I haven't the time to expand on this argument myself, but there was a great discussion over at the Greedy Goblin for those of you familiar with the WoW system. He and his guild, to prove that skill was worth a lot more than gear, did a 10-man Uludar raid - with every player in blue gear.

Dont really care what you call it... 80aa's at level 55 really add to the over all dps. I can see how you would think if i was a "normal" player yes, impossible. But my gear I had before 55 was pretty good (I had my tmap earring quest complete by level 55 is one small example and even a few vd tmap pieces). Ya im a freak of nature.

And yes, I was in groups in my level range and some groups with 65s. In any of the case of groups I was doing more then my share of the dps :)

I'm not doubting your skill, or that of anyone you grouped with. Just your math.

If your rogue at level 55 was doing a large portion of the damage in the pickup groups you were in, then it's simply not possible your group was killing fast enough for you to go from 55 to 65 in 18 hours. Also I don't believe anything other than a raid geared 65 tank would be able to tank those zones efficiently enough for you to pull multiple mobs at a time, let alone doing it nonstop. It would likewise take a 65+ healer to keep the tank up for chain pulls without time to drop combat and med.

Regardless, this is not the point of this thread. I only brought it up because getting the final 10 levels of the game in ~100 minutes apiece is not a realistic rate of experience gain for 99% of the people who will read this thread for leveling advice.
