What I enjoyed about WR

Ok, I'm leaving WR for various reasons which I won't go into here but I would like to tell the devs that I was/am VERY impressed with the amount of effort and hard work that has gone into WR.

I thought I would post some of the things I enjoyed about WR on my way out:

Old school gear without the mudflation. You had to work for your gear.

Faster exp than live.

That you can die and wake up at your bind spot fully equipped and not have to sweat doing a cr.

The exp debt system vs losing exp.

Newbie quests - a good # of newbie quests in both Evil/Good cities

Factions - I'm a sucker for factions, the more the better

Mistwoods Ring/Fishing Grub quests - I thought these were very well written, fun, and gave good reward for the effort.

Taldor Malath Cloak Quest series - again a fun quest, I liked how it gave some lore and storyline, and a good reward

Zones which are connected differently - I like finding Unrest where Kerra used to be and Nurga connecting the warrens to Faentharc. It changes it up from live and was always fun the first time you hit a new zoneline.

Anything that changed from Live - the undead in Gfay, Lizards in Crushbone, frogs in Taldor Malath, etc....

The Warrens - a very well designed zone.

The Vah Shir Lynch Mob - It made me chuckle. Same with Scavenger Gnirt.

The evergrowing fungus in Greenlight Hills - It was fun watching him keep bigger and bigger. Didn't manage to kill the Humongus Fungus, but it was fun getting to him and then trying.

The Crusher - Pretty spectacular sight out in the middle of the desert.

The drunken dwarf who thinks that the High Priest is half-tizmak or somesuch nonsense.

Some of the higher levels who would hang out in the newbie zones giving items or buffs. Taking care of the newbies is always good karma.

That devs took the time to make bards playable.

Lord Rizhal and his lore on the dragons.

NPC spell casters are nasty. I love this, it's back the way original eq was when you had to fear casters.

The dragon in WW who when hailed said something like "Greetings Jamethiel, you are known to us and welcome here" I'm a sucker for things like that. :)

Nice work all

Too bad you are leaving :( I think I've grouped with ya a few times, I think in fungus grove...
Farewell, and good luck!

Yeah, I'd say "wtg, on beating WR." cept that it doesn't really feel like a chore to play here and that wouldn't be quite appropriate :b.

Anyways, I hope you have fun, come back and say hi some time!

It's a shame you are leaving, most times when stuff makes you want to leave, if you just take some time off - its all better. I know your mindset right now - so i won't even try to stop you from leaving, but dont delete your chars or accounts - you will be back. you have to :) because if you don't come back.. where will i get all my quests from??

Thank you so much for being such a part in WRGuide - and im sure you have done a lot of things around WR that has made people smile.

Take care friend.

Going to post about the topics he brought up.. Hopefully it isn't considered "out-of-line".

Old school gear without the mudflation. You had to work for your gear.

Agreed. I'm glad this server was started with low-end gear. Unlike Raid Addicts/Guild Wars. However, keep in mind that the gear only gets better. As GoTW and Ruin keep killing the uber mobs over and over, and eventually have killed every uber mob, most people of these guilds will have all the uber gear. And, what's the fun in killing a god when the loot just rots? So, new mobs will be added.. To encourage people to kill these new ubers, gear will have to be upgraded. As high level gear gets better, more gear sets will have to drop for the low to mid levels to compensate.. Etc, etc.

This could take 6month.. could take 3 years. Eventually, as far as gear goes, things will start looking like live (of course by then, there will be 150/10 1hs weapons on live).

Faster exp than live.

Disagree. I have been recently messing around on live (with that free account offer thing). And my char is about 2 1/2 weeks old. A shadow knight at lvl 49 already (but I also spend time on raids on WR, so its not dedicated days of exping). Exp in groups is much faster, as well as groups are much easier to find (though its getting tough since most low levels are twinks/PL'd). Exp SOLO is much SLOWER on live, so your right on that aspect.. which is interesting. Talking to some old school friends on the server, they say you can get about 2 AA's an hour if you have a bad ass group. Here, a bad ass group gets you 1 AA per hour. A weak thrown together group on live gets that easy.

That you can die and wake up at your bind spot fully equipped and not have to sweat doing a cr.

Agreed. Even live is realizing CR is getting to be a pointless time-sink, and using the graveyard thing. Though there is talk about changing this on WR.. We will just have to wait and see.

The exp debt system vs losing exp.

Agreed. The debt isn't bad, and is easy to pay off. Which helps offset the lower availability of groups.

Newbie quests - a good # of newbie quests in both Evil/Good cities

Agreed. And it seems that more are coming in daily which is great. I feel like a newbie again with all the new lowbie quests out there that I have no clue about.

Factions - I'm a sucker for factions, the more the better

Disagree and Agree. The factions are too easy. As for Erudin/Thurg. It's very easy to become non-kos in both. Hell, I'm max ally to both evil and good at the same time. Following the term of 'ally' if Evil and Good goes to war, Im obliged to fight for both sides.. Guess I have to jump off the EW-Stormkeep entrance and suicide. As for Dragon/Giant. People bounce from max kos to max ally within 1 raid. Either the giants and dragons are REALLY forgiving, or they are really stupid. But, obviously making the factions hell to raise up would put another unnecessary timesink into the game. So it can go either way, but should also be tweaked.

Zones which are connected differently - I like finding Unrest where Kerra used to be and Nurga connecting the warrens to Faentharc. It changes it up from live and was always fun the first time you hit a new zoneline..... [and] Anything that changed from Live - the undead in Gfay, Lizards in Crushbone, frogs in Taldor Malath, etc....

Totally Agree. Right off the bat you realize.. This ain't Norrath, it's Dalaya. Also, it lets live vets re-experience EQ all over again, becomming a newbie again. Which to me is the most important aspect of Winter's Roar.

The Warrens - a very well designed zone.

Agreed. The mob placement is just flat out outstanding. Mobs are placed in every odd corner/hallway/etc imagineable on Warrens - Live. On live its just one great big ambush zone. On WR, Warrens is designed to have certain abush spots, and certain low NPC traffic spots, which makes the most sense... And provides for a much more enjoyable single group dungeon experience.

The Vah Shir Lynch Mob - It made me chuckle. Same with Scavenger Gnirt.

Disagree!!!!! I saved Hellowkitty Meowmix, and what do I get? Attacked! I hate cats. (Note: Animals WERE harmed in the making of this statement)

The evergrowing fungus in Greenlight Hills - It was fun watching him keep bigger and bigger. Didn't manage to kill the Humongus Fungus, but it was fun getting to him and then trying

Agreed. This is just one of the many many fun encounters of WR. The new Thought Horror Overfiend fight I can't wait to be apart of. Doing the mock fight for WR Trailer was incredibly fun. Can't imagine the real thing.

The Crusher - Pretty spectacular sight out in the middle of the desert

Agreed. And pretty intimidating also. How the hell do you kill a giant rock?!

Some of the higher levels who would hang out in the newbie zones giving items or buffs. Taking care of the newbies is always good karma.

Agreed. That never happens on live. I remember getting some free loot as a lowbie. I even got the dagger that I use to this day at the WR year and a half party.. at lvl 23.

NPC spell casters are nasty. I love this, it's back the way original eq was when you had to fear casters.

Agreed. Though annoying sometimes.. It does add a bit of flavor. There's nothing like.. easy kill, easy kill, easy kill, oh crap caster, run! Think Warlocks in FR. I remember at lvl 3 I was killing Kobold Runts. One spawned with a Halbred in its hand. WOOT! I thought, a few gold pieces to my bank account. Attacked, easy kill, then all the sudden.. I get hit for 47 points of dmg. Turns out the mobs use the weapons to their extreme advantage (might have been a bug though), but it was kinda amusing. At higher levels, sometimes the casters get out of control. Example: Pre-nerfed Tashlet in Cmal. Oh, and the lost wraiths in Akheva can provide a headache at high levels.

Well, good luck to you, whatever you do.

And thanks for the comments, Wazeek. Useful feedback is great. It's true that our lowbie game probably is slower than live now, and our high end is slower as well, although by comparision, we have a lot less AAs to get than live does.

Regarding the AA's, I didn't even think of it that way. Though it makes a ton of sense... But, aren't the full AA's eventually going to be in? Or are we talking GoD AA's long long down the road?

Exp hasn't been a real big issue as of lately. Even the poll that was run about AA exp shows that most people are happy with it. I was just responding to his statement where he says he felt exp was faster. Exp from lvl's 40 to low 50's should be looked into though, seems a lot of people are getting caught up there.

..

agreed on the getting caught up in the 40s. I have been level 42 for a while, I have lost the power to solo efficiently because mobs hit too hard, and groups are too hard to come by, I haven't logged in in quiet a while because of it.

There aren't really any plans for AA advancement beyond PoP AAs. I don't think we'll ever use GoD AAs.

As for 40+ exp - if we made it twice as fast or anything, there'd be even less groups going around. :p

Finding groups at low levels sucks too.

The problem, I've found, is that most of the low-to-mid level characters are just alts of level 60's. And, they're usually just powerlevling, without grouping.

It's a pain to have to DC two toons, just so my girlfriend and I can have a chance at actually killing things.

Twice? We just want a little tweak so we dont commit suicide after trying to lvl between 40 and 50! Or do this, tweak the exp, and when Trail of Tears comes around, you untweak it, since we now have more places to lvl, right? :)

so uh..

whats trail of tears? is this the next "expansion" for WR? and if so can we have qeynos hills and blackburrow?.. how about sol a and sol b? how about a kunark zone like the lake of ill omen or chardok? i want sarnaks to moosh :D if there's a link to whats in the works, please help the unlinkified.

There's no list of zones available to players, but I'm confident you'll be satisfied. :)

..

well no ones asking for you to double the exp income, thats just silly :p

but, there is a very noticeable damage upgrade on blue con mobs around level 40-42. they hit too hard for me to solo, and I have a staff that I shouldn't even be able to have until I am level 52+ (dragonbone warstaff), and have a lot of great equip to back it up, and I cant solo blues, its sillly
