War? What is it good for?

A quick suggestion
I suggest that either the mobs be lowered extremely, or the invasions wait until 80% of the pop is 65. The server lags as if its hosted on 56k. People disconnect every zone. It upsets me to see that the zones are being over ran, and can do nothing but level in hopes of being able to assist before im grinding in the sewers.

Do not get me wrong. The war idea is great, but at the cost of lag/ d/c it is driving me nuts.

An indepth suggestion:
  • Making the war easily accessible by having wizards offering direct ports to near by encampents.
  • Encampments could be set up on a nearby zone to the war.
  • Lowering the advancing mobs to about 20-30, Have their reinforcements be around 40-50, and the final wave before take over be 50-60.
  • Have a general that spawns after 10 minutes that if killed within certain time the advancement gets halted for an hour.
  • If advancement gets halted after 4 or 5 tries have army move a zone back.

Please, no flames. Just str8 criticism.

According to Wiz, the majority of the lag being experienced has nothing to do with the War, and is completely unrelated (but is being worked on!)

The lag is not caused by the war, except maybe in the war zone. The lag is caused mainly be the listing system, and a solution is being worked on.

These suggestions are pretty terrible, it wouldn't be any kind of war, and players would never even have a chance of losing.

Why is lag then such a problem?
How far will the army go?
How will we counter it once its too late.

Edit for Wiz's question.

What kind of war? A war that more people have a chance to participate in. A war that is more likely to be even sided then an all out clubbing of seals.

How far the army goes will depend entirely on player response to invaded areas.

If it advances *too far* players will have to come up with creative counters.

It's war =).

I'm just happy to see an additional dynamic aspect added to the server, along with the roleplaying it affords. The staff has done a terrific job on this, in my opinion.

Because the database is being hit too hard and that makes the server lag.

Kaezul is not going to attack a land full of incredibly powerful adventurers with his worst troops because you feel left out if he doesn't, and there is meant to be a serious chance to be able to lose this. A war that you are guanrateed to win if even one level 65 raider shows up is utterly pointless.

But i would like to enter the war, but my best toon is only lvl 18 with bad gear so i know i would get killed.
so for me the war is no fun if i don't even stand a chance of even killing one mob. :(

I think they have done horrible in the actual deployment of the war. The idea of the war it self is awesome, but there is a greater chance that players are not going to defend the server 24/7. If the mobs were lowered on the advancment then the lower players could hold the army, and the higher players could adventure deeper in to the ranks and kill generals that would push the army back.

Edit:

You could easily design the war with things in place to give lower players a chance to experience it and help out. Quests like supply running, Taking out scouts, and holding lower level mobs from advancing.

I understand it's no fun to be left out, and we're discussing ways for low levels to participate, but having the main attack troops be level 20 is not it.

Yes, those are all good ideas, and may very well be added.

I do not know exactly how much control you have over spawning mobs/buildings, but you could create camps that players can bind to, resupply, and get ready for an invasion or get those quests.

You could also have low level camps with catipults or other siege equipment that lower levels could help with destroying for quests.

wiz has already stated that something for lower level players will be implemented... give it a rest and wait.
The war is an amazingly positive new aspect to the game.

I fear the higher level pcs would merely destroy the lower level npcs in their path to the higher level ones, leaving the lower level players with nothing to do anyhow.

Quests are a great idea, as would be killing lower level scouts in adjacent zones. I'd love to hear more suggestions on this topic.

They would not yield xp because they are trivial, but keeping them from looting them for quest items/faction items would be a serious concern.

thats cool,

But for me being that i am lvl 18 I can do nothing to help. So in my point of view i see nothing positive to the war.

And that is what im trying to suggest. Making the war more accessible and attract more players.

That's great and all but "I can't participate in it right now" is not a reason not to add content or else no content would ever get added.

I will think of more ideas of how to incorporate lower level players. Creating nothing but end game content is a down fall for mmos. To keep games alive for longer time you should make more lower end content at the same time of higher end content. Having people create multiple accounts/characters and maxing them is what keeps games alive. If you ask a person on wow how many 70's they have they might say 1-4 but they will most likely have 2-4 60s and more lower characters.

But right now... its bed time.

But see i have only been playing for like 2 weeks, Don't get me wrong i think the game is great. I played live for 4 years and ran into a ton of people (will i wont say what i think of them) and on here i have seen a lot more people i would like to call nice or even friends. But when stuff is to high and i can't join or help. It make me wonder if i should even try. But trust me if i had a 65 toon i would be right in there giving the invaders hell or at least helping others in the fight (depending on what class i had at 65).
