Vah sword 3

You forgot to add me to The list. I'm actually on this step of the quest and we actually back gear in This zone so it sucks for us That all The trash is always down because I have no chance to get The ingots. The drop rate should definitely be reasonable as This is much harder than old thaz.

I still think only one ingot should be necessary. This is what we know,

1) the Valorium Ingots replace the Eldritch Steel part of the quest,
2) both UT Earth and ValorB have about the same number of mobs at roughly equal toughness,
3) drop rates between old Thaz and ValorB are comparable,
4) only needed one Eldritch Steel in old quest vs four Valorium Ingots now.

It seems to me that trying to farm four ingots is comparable to farming four Eldritchs Steels.

Stepping away from the details of the quest itself, here is how I see the whole picture. When Thaz was removed about 1.5 years ago, a traffic jam started. There was promises that quests wouldn't be disrupted so that gave hope that knights would be able to do their Vah swords in the future. However, it took until last month for the instructions of how to complete the 3rd Vah sword to be released.

So we have 1.5 years of knights in the 3rd Vah sword traffic jam that has just started moving again. We're moving, however, on a one lane dirt road with pot holes and switchbacks due to the extraordinary effort needed to complete the quest. With knights being a popular class, we'll more than likely see more people join this part of the quest than those who complete it, just making the traffic jam worse. The only way I really see it easing is with people getting fed up and giving up on it.

To be honest, this is a SoD Admin team made traffic jam. I really appreciate the work Dev-Jumbers and GM-Olive put it to make it possible to do this again. However, the team that took out Thaz but then didn't update the vah quest really have caused a mess. There needs to be changes made to get the 1.5 years of knights ready to do this quest through it with minimal affect to the guilds ready to move through these tiers. Having 8-10 over tier knights perma farming these zones really isn't the answer.

Realized I posted a number of complaints and no suggestions in my last post, and that's not really very cool.

Problem: Knights that have moved past ValorB/UC/PoFrost (mainly ValorB since that is Tier 7) during the years the 3rd Vah sword quest was out of action and now have to perma farm zones keeping them locked up from on tier guilds.

Possible Solution: Introduce some drops in the upper tier zones (Yclist and Spires) that are raided by these over-tiered knights that can be traded to an NPC for the actual drops needed for the sword quest. This would allow the over-tiered knights that missed all the quest drops while the sword quest was out of the game to progress without having to perma farm old zones.

Example: Karuff Ironhand in Valor wants to collect some ancient magical items to reforge into more powerful weapons for the Chosen. If a knight at the correct spot in the quest talk to him, he tells you that he has heard you're interest in Valorium ingots and he'll trade you some if you help him out in turn. Add some items like a Pristine Yclist Shan'Den randomly drop from Temple Guardians and a Glowing Yclist Channeling Staff drop from Enchanters. Karuff will trade you one ingot per weapon you give him.

The same can be done with the trinkets from UC. The Iksar in Grobb aren't the most stand up crew so there is probably a sneaky Iksar that will trade you some trinkets for some old magical items from Yclist/Spires (which he will then cackle and use to buy position within the cult).

Possible Problem: People will go farm ValorB/UC on nights they are not raiding so it will still be perma down. This is possible but at least if there is another way to get the necessary items it will get these old knights out of the system quicker and reduce the amount of time these zones are down.

Anyways, just some thoughts to get the traffic moving again.

I would propose that the trash drop rate in ValorB would have to be increased by at least 4x (to compensate for the four lower Thaz wings) to make up for the disparity in the number of mobs available to kill between the two zones. Right now it's like we only have Lower Earth to kill over and over and over again to complete the quest.

These replace the Eldritch Steel from Upper Earth, which was a tiny wing with only sixteen mobs. Given that you need quadruple the items, a droprate increase to match will be seen. Other posters claiming that Upper Earth had a quicker respawn or easier mobs compared to valorb are not accurate. The drop rate in valorb was probably too low, and Jumbers has already posted to say that this will be addressed. The intention was, and is, for the Valorium Ingots to be the same amount of effort to obtain as the Eldritch Steel. Look for this to be changed in the next patch and hold further assumptions and complaints on the droprate until then. You got something you wanted, so cheer up!

As to this point, and the general tone of many posts in this thread: While I understand your frustration as a player, please consider the challenges to the staff. If this was a new quest, people would be more patient with issues like this. As an existing quest, there is outrage at oversights, and a sense of entitlement to content being updated quickly. Please remember that the people who designed both old Thaz and the Vah are gone. It can be difficult to update and maintain the content of others while still adding your own. We have fixed a broken quest, and been open to player suggestions about a drop rate increase. I am not really sure what more a reasonable person could expect. It is easier to look back and claim that in hindsight the quest should have been changed right away. But game development is a process in which things sometimes become broken for a time. All we can do is move forward from here.

When Thaz was redesigned as a higher tier zone with all new content we were faced with a choice. Either stick with the original progression of the quest and add drops to new zones, or force people to do higher tier content for their drops. A temporary backfarm for some characters was deemed a better solution than messing with the whole progression of the quest and adding the drops to new Thaz. Let us wait and see how the improved drop rate shakes out before we consider adding the drop to every raid mob out there. Plus, the server could always use more PUGs if you are rotting the gear! Valorb is a pretty fun zone!

Lastly, I appreciate the thanks to myself personally but I cannot take that credit. The amount of effort I put into this fix pales in comparison what the Admins do for the server on a daily basis. It may not count for much, but my opinion of Woldaff, Slaar and Jumbers has gone up immensely since I joined staff. The hours they put into this game is above and beyond what I would expect of volunteers. Maybe this all sounds like a big list of excuses and all you care about is that the quest was broken for so long. If that is the case, then all I can say is try to let go of the bad feelings over the 'mess' and the 'cleanup' will go much better for all of us.

edit: In case it was lost in all the words I posted: this takes a patch to fix. We have changed the drop rate, but please wait for a patch to add more feedback on drop rates. We may reopen the thread then.

I think this thread has outlived its usefulness now that the issue at hand has been addressed and it has simply devolved into complaining.
