Vah assassinations and "immediate companions"

Quest dialogue is vague, so yes unless you get fed strats from others you will likely fail a couple of times before you figure out what they are looking for. But eventually you'll figure it out.

I suggest if you don't enjoy the try/fail try again approach then try to talk to some people who have done it for clues or strats.
 
There's like a paragraph or more for each assassination telling you exactly what to do in addition to keeping in mind the restrictions from the first spider assassination. I don't understand how this is difficult. The only one that has any real difficulty to it is the one in kedge, because you need to use certain spells or skills to get your characters into position for that.

I feel the exact same way with the Jayla aug, but people get stuck on that frequently.
