minisith

Dalayan Beginner
WTF? Why is Minisith an unacceptable name? I had that online name forever! Even in EQL!

Plz help clear this up. I don't want to lose my gamer name.

As long as we're on it

Since we are already on the topic...

I fear I already know the answer, but would "Do'Urden" be an unacceptable last name?

It's that my char name is the spanish word for "malicious" (in female version) which I find fitting for a necromancer - and it does resemble the Matron Malice from Forgotten Realms - whatever - I have been using that last name on live for ages and sort of grown attached to it.

I will accept a simple "no" on the issue - but wanted to at least have asked.

Regards,

Maliciosa

Uh, yes, that's a completely unacceptable last name. You shouldn't even have to ask.

He probably hadn't made the connection between "Minisith" and mini sith since he was probably pronouncing it in a similar fashion to "menacing." A lot of the name changes seem to be for pretty obscure reasons. I still don't know what's wrong with "Devook."

Maybe because Devook in Brazilian/Portuguese means "I must" and depending what your surname is (if you have one) may make an interesting colaboration.

or in Slovenian it means "Devonian" and the your insulting geologists by using the Age of Fishes in vain.

and in latin it means "to call away, call down, call aside"

So feel free to choose one... :D

There is a large community of naming police. I understand the rogs named Iwillstabyou, but some characters get yelled at in /ooc with name connections that most don't even catch. I wonder if it's possible to upload English/Spanish/French/etc dictionaries into the rejected name database. Might save a lot of people a lot of time. I get Minisith too, I'm talking about other things.

Going to pick on Melwin because I <3 you!

http://www.melwin.no/en/

http://www.ldesignstudio.ru/projects/melwin/

Melwin didn't turn out to be the best example, but I'm not going to take the risk of getting someone's name changed either. If you google just about any name, then you will come up with a ton of things, if you search acronymfinder.com you will come up with even more things.

The...Russian project was started in February 2005.

Sometimes we go a little overboard, I agree (Devook is...I seriously don't know why that was nerfed, petition if you want it back), but most of the the complaints we get are about why we nerfed names from very popular media (I nerfed someone named Uther last night and he didn't seem to get why it was against the rules, for instance - I later actually found out Uther is a real name, so it was actually legit, heh).

If you think your name shouldn't have been nerfed and can provide solid arguments for it, then we're very likely to listen to you, but if your argument is "I USED THIS ON EQLIVE AND BEFORE I USED IT FOR 20 YEARS!!! ok" then we're probably going to delete your petition.

OMG WHEN WILL PEOPLE START READING THE NAMING POLICY?

Wiz, should add stupidity to the banfest '05....

I think it should be updated with a more detailed listing of what should and shouldn't used... For those who are clueless as to what you mean by your naming policy. Maybe making it detailed like EQL naming policy might get the point across to those who don't understand why 'Elvezrool' isn't acceptable?

i had my sks name of "pickles" changed by a GM to something even worse! kankir

i get far more comments on the one the gm gave me than i ever did with pickles, witch ive used for years :p

not complaining, just seemed to go with the topic

1. No titles. You can't be "Lordgrey" or "Jackthegreat". Sorry.

2. No names from well-known, popular media. You can't be Aragorn, Gandalf or Garfield. Also, excusing it with that you spelled it Ganddalf or Garrfield will earn you a ban for sheer stupidity. On that note, no unrealistic or completely idiotic names either. "Rogue" or "Iksar" are not acceptable names.

3. No wordplays. "Froak Frog" is not an acceptable name, nor is Frog or Froak by itself, but those go under idiotic names anyway.

4. That "you used this name on live" does not mean it magically bypasses the policy. We will not tolerate this excuse. Use the rules here, not the non-existant name rules on EQlive.

If a staff member tells you that you need to change your name, please don't argue it.

That's from the naming policy on the website...

By playing on this server, you Accept and agree to all the rules put in place by the GMs... so if you don't read the rules before joining, you lose.

I've had my names changed, too... but I'm not the one bitching.

Question,
Can you have names that may be similar to popular names but it still sounds like a name. EX: Changing Tasslehoff to Hasslehoff.

To me Hasslehoff is legit but maybe others will disagree. Just a thought on it.

Hmmm, Hasslehoff....sounds familiar...
