The problem i forsee with this is it would really be up to the community to keep this on hold.

keep in mind this is an idea for RETIRED RINGERS! because i feel like just because you're a ringer is no reason to keep you out of lower tier zones.

So lets use Ringo as a prime example. that dude hasnt been around in years! The entire community knows it! So if this rule goes into effect then there would be a forum topic specifically in place for players to repot ringers. Players Report Ringo as a Retired Ringer. Dev's Gm's whoever recongnize that this is indeed a fact he is retired and slap a *retiree* Tag over his name just like the *RP* flag.

Raid BOSSES would recongnize these *retiree* flags and then just smash face!

good idea? bad idea? possible?

if said retiree's were to come then they could /petition to have the flag removed!
 
all retiree's banished to Sunset Home where they can play shuffleboard and bridge and log out before 6pm.
 
retirees gather tome exp for the number of children and animals they yell at to get off their lawn. Exp doubles if they spray them with water from the hose.
 
Let's have devs and gms spend more of their time fixing things that are not even a problem. Then again, maybe some of them do need something to do. They did take the time to nerf bags.
 
Yeah not even remotely neccessary. With this size of a server community (a statement I maintain even when the server was at its highest population) almost everyone knows almost everyone else in some way shape or form. If you want ringers to be a thing of the past 1) want in one hand, crap in the other, and 2) it would have to be enforced as a community standard, not a staff edict.

Like Dimmi mentioned, the size of the community makes this not a very good idea.

Also, I think it would enforce people lying and pretending shit.

And what exactly would be defined as a retired ringer ? For example, if Ringo comes back for 1 week and then goes MIA. How long does it take for him to be retired?

-shrug- yah idk guess there would have to be a limit or something. was just a suggestion... =) seen posts in the past where people thought ringers were a problem so thought i'd just throw it out there.
 
This just wouldn't work.

How do you define a character as a ringer?

When Zorlon quit and FWF was doing content that required an enchanter we simply had to box him or not do the content. At the time there were no active enchanters that could do our raid times and were anywhere close to being capable of raiding T13.

If this actually went into effect it would just turn into a shit fest of guilds trying to get all semi-retired characters that the opposing guild uses flagged as ringers.
 
If this had been done years ago, it might have helped. At this point the population is much smaller and I don't think making it harder for people to have fun is the way to retain players or attract new ones.

EDIT: Just to disclose - I never use ringers, I never loan my toons, and every toon I've leveled up was leveled by me and only me. I'm against ringers, but even I can tell it's not a good idea right now.

It certainly was a problem. But at this point the population really doesn't need another insentive to start new characters because people quit the game... =p
 
It doesn't seem like a terrible idea, since most aspects of this server are moving even closer to the more hardcore/masochistic standpoint. It would help prevent things from getting too easy and happy loot balloons descending over every new dalayan beginner.
 
Rations and Water should be replaced with "Pack of Bran & Nails" and "Flask of Vinegar"

Show the players what they are in for from day 1. Pain and discomfort.
 
Not sure we need anti-ringer code at all but IF we did...

My idea for anti-ringer code:

Require toons be online a set number of hours per month, with that toon being the only one on that particular ip address.

Most ringers (I would guess) are mostly boxed.

Of course, like any anti-ringer code this would require a big chunk of time from a good SQL person.

Not sure its worth the trouble.
 
If a dev wants to make a fight that is anti-ringer, they are able to do so very easily now. However, it's not a fun thing to force the whole server to do! In My Opinion!
 
If you don't want your old toon to be used as a ringer don't give out your infos, it's as simple as that. Account sharing has been a part of MMORPGS forever, SoD is no different.
