Treasure Maps, The War and whatnot...

I was looking over the wiki and I noticed it mentioned things like Treasure Maps and the War. Outside of specifics like the tiers of maps and things like specific items that could be found in the War, there are a few basics I still don't entirely understand.

1. For Treasure Maps, is it literally like you find one randomly fishing and travel to wherever it says to go? Does clicking the map send you and your group to a special "treasure map" dungeon you need to go to? If not, then does it just amount to normally going through a dungeon, but with better rewards should you dig in the right spot?

2. For the War, wouldn't randomly sending an army of things and named NPC's for players to fight get in the way of players that aren't high enough level or don't wish to participate? Or does it only happen in special zones?

Thanks for any info. :)

EDIT: Don't mind my noobish-like questions. I know it says I joined in 2006 but I only recently started getting into SoD lol.

1. Treasure maps are sort of like this: the map tells the "opener" where to go (which zone, and where in zone). Getting to this zone is done via ports, walking, mop or a combination of the three. Then you dig on said spot and monsters will appear, eventually a treasure box will spawn with monsters. Open chest collect loot.

My best advice for the treasure maps is to join someone else on their treasure map before you lead an expedition. You'll get a great understanding of how they work, some exp, and maybe a gear upgrade too!

2. Yes the war can and does impact lower level players. If you aren't actively engaged in the war - I suggest staying away. The wars are broadcast across all zones, so you'll be given enough notice to get the hell out of said zone!

1. you randomly find treasure maps, mostly from fishing, but some can also drop in dungeons (randomly, so not really farmable)

You open said map, and it will tell you in plain text what zone to get to, when you read the map in that zone, it directs you to the dig site with North, South, East and Wast, (for instance it says "the trasure is buried to the North/South/East/West of you" or something similar..

once you get to the spot you need to equip a shovel and right click the shovel, then its just a matter of killing the monsters that spawn, and digging again, and doing that till a treasure chest spawns along with a wave of monsters.

After killing all the monsters you can either Bash or Picklock on the chest and it will crumble becoming a lootable object with goodies inside.

2. Wars occur randomly in 1 of 3 places I think. the Badlands, heading towards Newport.
Gfay/Lfay heading towards Athica, or Southern/northern wastes of Tarhyl, heading for Oggok.

When a war is going to happened you will see red text in your chat box indicating what zone and approximatly how long till you need to be gone. (Attack will occur soon, Attack is imminent etc etc.

You will want to run far and fast if you are in a zone that is about to get attacked..

to answer your question, Yes, wars interfere with lower level players.. but there are usually more than enough alternative zones to group in so in the end it's not a huge deal.

They start in Cauldron of Dawn (Athica), Lake Starfall (Newport) and Northern Waste of Tarhyl (Oggok).

Don't forget Faentharc -> Everfrost -> Halas

... and there was that one time they attacked South Newport directly via the docks.
