I beg to differ.

So what you're essentially saying is that more than say 3 zonelines and a max of maybe 2 minutes of travel to get ANYWHERE AT ALL is stupid.

Yeah, I think I'll just agree to disagree there.

Wiz, you are exaggerating. Wbadlands with selos takes 5 minutes. WBadlands with no runspeed enhancements takes 10+ minutes.

And your earlier assessment (said on multiple related threads, if I recall) is that the erudin boat is a 5 min delay. This is simply untrue. Wrath of god on me or whatever for disagreeing, but it's a fact I just experienced last night. Waiting on the boat took 10 minutes from when I arrived on the dock. The boat zoned and waited 2 mins without moving (assuming that this is to assist slow zoners from not missing the boat and falling into the water; a necessary evil). Then the boat took 5 mins to cross the sea. Now, at this point, just BEFORE it zoned me out to snewport, it dropped me in the water.

If we assume the bug is fixed, one can likely count on a zone to snewport, a pause of 2 mins to catch straggling zoners, and what, maybe a minute to get to the dock. So if the bugs get fixed, that is some 20 minutes.

Worse for now: when I got plopped into the water at zone edge to snewport, while still in the sea zone, my monk was somehow 'wedged' on the geometry...while underwater. For like a minute or two I was unable to move. I started drowning and 2 dmg hits into the drowning I was then able to move. BTW, I couldn't move in x, y, or z and couldn't even turn around. In the end, I had to swim back to the dock on the little island and wait for the boat again.

So, fry me in a chair for being honest if you wish, but these things happened to me directly, while I watched a clock to time it.

This, btw, was just so I could go from erimal (where I last parked my monk before nexus died) to thedeep. There's simply no reasonable path.

So the bug fixes for the boats will make this trip easier. And I don't even see a problem with 'forcing' a boat trip every now and then. Not the end of the world. But to do that only to be facing so many other zonings, and to top it off, sometimes the best path after that is to run through wbadlands to get to HoL via nbadlands (for instance, when going to The Deep) is just extreme.

This system I like better than the old, provided we fix the bugs and tweak a few paths. As it stands right now, it hurts grouping a lot. As it stands right now it slows down raids a bit. As it stands right now it hurts casual players a lot. It can be improved upon to meet each of these needs. The idea of a wiz port to help raiders prep is a good solution for one of these needs. The other 2 options I won't throw out ideas on...there are a lot of good ways to fix it without ruining your plans for interaction and exploration and what-not.

Everyone needs to get over it...come on, centralized hubs have nothing to do with a fantasy RP aspect at all...plus, cities are happenin' places. The only thing that could make this more of a convenience would be a couple little ZEM changes, just a couple and then the world would be in balance ;

Some idea to throw in (don't flame me please :p )

Hey all ! First I fully approve the new system, Wiz's goal is reached I think, it makes the world less linear and more "old-fashioned" in gameplay. While reading the thread where people agree or disagree with the changes, I was thinking, well maybe this is no place for suggestions, but back in the old times when we played Lonely Singleplayer Role Playing Games, we had very different means of traveling. Like if you take Ultima for example, you had horses...ok my little finger told me it was out of question for the moment forget it....Boats, yes but they work more or less according to various players. But to go faster there were Moongates ! Who never heard of the famous moongates of Sosaria/Ultima ? A gate that appeared for a small time per day in a city, leading to another city considering the phase of the moon at the moment you step into it. Well I thought it could be interesting to mention, except that the moon phases may be hard to translate in EQ :p...but with a slight trick like making it spawn according to in-game time that could be helpful without being an uber gift to players and keeping players bound to the cities.
Well anyway you just changed the whole thing recently, so I guess you won't take it into consideration soon, but I just wanted to share a simple thought which may help improving this complicated problem.

Wiz, could you consider changing Western Badlands back to the size it originally was on live? If I recall correctly, Karana worshippers complained about the plains being too small, even though they were considered huge in the lore. Perhaps by making WB less wide it would solve some of people's disdain for the new system.

I like most of it, but very much dislike Eurudin not being included in the connected grid. It really should be a major city, and it would make sence they had a translocator.

Boats do take a while even when they work, and can be a major pain, if somethign goes wrong.

That sounds like a load of bollocks.

Nothing we can do about it anyway, but it's still bollocks.

eh i think its good. it will get druids and wizards somewhat popular again for porting. plus, its a game. its made to give some challenge. who plays a game where its simple and everything is given? takes the fun out of it. as i think we can all agree about the PoK.. just ruined things. so, all in all, make friends with druids and wizards and get use to running=)

i dont like the idea of HoL having a coach or anything. the fact that druids and wizards can port there is enough for me. i never really need to go there. my main places are newport and thurgadin. lets see some more vendors please=)

If anything gives this game more of a challenge I am all for it.

So far I love this server.

Newport and thurg are good jogs from a lot of higher end zones. I'm merely trying to figure out a way to open up the deep, akheva and SL for xp'n without the hellacious run.

It's a good jog to parts of LoM, that's it.

Not even that, really, if you learn the way through Grieg's End.

Will Grieg's End ever be populated? Something to consider.

Also, on my server (bristlebane) PoK helped things a lot. It encouraged the economy, grouping, tradeskilling, xping, questing. It was a win in every instance OTHER than the neophyte's who stood around begging for buffs. But they did that in every zone they entered, so you just have to get over those annoyances.

Anyways, I know we aren't going PoK here, just my 2cents worth.

Hopefully, we'll keep the new system and tweak it for a few of the paths that are too time consuming. It's not that I want 'easy', just reasonable paths to a few places, most of which Homarg listed.

please no PoK...please please...its actually a bad place for a few reasons:

everyone goes there, and nowheres else, why would you when everything is right in front of you? this is the problem, people are spoiled by it. its like this: your dog would love to eat steaks all day, but we dont give him steaks, we give him dog food, and its good for him, end of story. DONT LET YOURSELF BE SO SPOILED ;)

also, having PoK books to every place on Norath was bull poo. I met lvl 65 charactors that only know how to get from place to place by: take **** book. They didn't know 75% of Norath b/c of it.... yuck yuck yuck, you guys really have no aimiability towards RPing just a bit? Come on, its a fantasy game....

Let's face it, WR is huge. There are more zones than server population (or close to it). I, for one, like having an abundance of zones to choose from. The old nexus gave everyone a lot of choices. However, even though Nexus made it very convenient to get to a lot of zones there were still many that were little used because of the distance required to travel to such zones. The new system has only made things worse. Why should I go to everchill, a five zone run from the nearest TL'r, when I can hit the catacombs in only 3? Or lavastorm in 4 zones, instead of ToV in 1? You might think I'm sounding whiny but the fact of the matter is zones = time. And not just any old time, boring time. Ok, I'll agree that running to Catacombs is only 5-10 minutes shorter than hitting Everfrost, but it takes less than 5 minutes to get there in the first place and if I wipe (always a possibility in any high end zone) that's more time saved by hitting the closer zone. Mielech's was a hefty run before the change, I don't even want to think about the distance now(for those without SK portnecks). What I would like to see is more accessibility, not less. The following is my grand design:

Coaches: North Newport, Feerott, HoL, East Freeport, Grieg's End(or spirit valley?), Wyvernfang (Othmir Village), Highpass

Translocator's: South Newport, Oggok, Underhill, Halas, Erudin, Thurgadin, Twilight

Essentially, keep the player merchants exclusive to Oggok and Newport, and have the only cross over for the system around these two areas. Will this cheapen the ability to teleport? Yes. Anything that involves saving time for players will do that. Teleportation magic will still be much faster in most situations and I really hope you're not chosing to group with these classes just because they have that ability.

When it was first stated that the nexus/bazaar was gone, I was wary... as were many others. The reasons officially stated for this change was decentralization. Get people into the cities, get the high levels mixing with the lower levels and all that good stuff; it looks like this has done just that.

But the nexus was more than just a means to get places, it was the heart of WR. It brought the low ends with the high(believe it or not low end players somehow managed to stumble upon this well kept secret abode of the l33t), trade flourished in the bazaar, and most parties/raids were formed in this humble centre of trade. So there was something wrong with it... ok. What? The dust is starting to clear and eventually a new WR hub will be made(newport is still the leading contender). It's the nature of people to do such things. In the end, you will have another nexus. People trading, going about their business, forming groups, organizing raids... We will still take the shortest path to our destinations, and our destinations are more likely to be the closer zones than the far ones.

I'm too tired to keep rambling.

Yeah, you're right. People are so much less likely to go to Everchill now that they can TL to newport than when they could use nexus to go to badlands and run across west bad-

I'm sorry, but that entire example was so terrible that it made me laugh. If you're not willing to take two extra minutes to get to a different place then you don't like an abudance of zones to choose from and would be just as happy sitting in the same spot killing the same level 50 mob for all eternity.

I like the travel system, doesn't make it so centered on one or two bland zones.

I'd love to know what happened to that other zone connection map though, i'm kind of lost without it now. It seems there are new maps coming up but could anyone point me to the one that was up before for use in the meantime? :)

You win wizzy, I refuse to argue this point anymore. I've got a port bot now so I have no reason to complain.
