I haven't really been following where this tradeskill is going, all i do know is that it has yet to be implemented. I would like to know (as many others are wondering im sure) is when/if this tradeskill will be implemented. I can see this to be valuable in two aspects.

First, it will help improve the economy on SoD by creating a demand for many smithing components that drop in many dungeons/zones.

Second, is that smithing will create an alternative to the armors that plate classes currently have available to them at early levels. Having a warrior in wyvernhide along side his monk counterpart in the same armor can be downright depressing.

I would really like to see smithing armor to be on par with wyvernhide as far as stats go, with a little more ac/stamina than currently available on the wyvernhide armor. There could be 2 sets as there are 2 sets of leather currently available, one to appeal to melee, and one to appeal to the casters/hybrids (more hp/sta on one, and more wiz/int/mana on the other)

Also, if there could be a higher level of leather/cloth armor that can be tailored, something better than the current available. Maybe make the items you make non-trivial since you basically have to cap tailoring to make the wyvernhide anyway. Comparable sets of armor for smithing should also be on par with those, only with better tanking stats.

Also I think it would be great to include weapons that can be made so that there can be a wider selection of decent weapons that someone can get (make).

If there is a possiblity that this can/will happen, would it also be possible to be able to make "epic" tradeskill items, things with incredients that are rare to find and never a chance to trivial, but a persitant person could make several of said items if they had the patience to search for all the items for however many combinations they wish to attempt. Now when i say epic smithed items i dont mean omg its the pwnzj00 best evah!!1! Something like highend cultural items that could be made on live. Same with weapons etc.

As far as i see it, tradeskills are pretty much a waste of time for anyone starting out, since practically anyone with the gumption to max one, can only sell the exact same crap as thier competition.

If you cannot forsee smithing being implemented in the near future, how about just improving on the current int caster tailored stuff that is currently available, and possibly adding something that upgrades the wyvern/wyrmhide.
 
Smithing is on the plate, but you have to understand it's a huge endeavour to create a tradeskill. But you're right on the money with it fixing a lot of problems that mid level tanks have.
 
Completely awesome, would you be able to provide any spoilers as to how the "end-game" smithed armor will be compared to the current equivalent of wyvernhide?


also, I assume weapons are part of the current list of smithable items?
