There have been 2 computers involved in this situation, each with the same problem.
My computer
Windows XP Media Center
ATI Radeon All in Wonder 9000
AMD Athalon XP 3000+
2.10 Ghz 1.50GB SD DDR

His information
Windows Vista 32bit home edition
NVidia Geforce 7300 GS
pentium D 2.80 Ghz
1GB DDR2


Neither one of us could log on to the ToT zone at all. when we tried to log on, we would get up to the character select and try to enter, and it would freeze up, and after a little while kick us back to server select.
We could log on the same characters in other zones.
Other people could log on us in ToT.


First we repatched.
Then We deleted the zone files, and file.txt and repatched
Then we deleted the zone files got the zone files from another player. (x 3 total sources)
Then we deleted all the file cache files and turned off that option, and restarted.
Then we called our ISP to make sure there were no traps or quarentines in effect.



Then I reinstalled direct x, .net 1.1, video drivers and repatched live, then repatched SoD all.

Then He uninstalled and reistalled and obv. patched all.

Now, both of us can log on to characters in ToT, however are both extremely laggy we timed a tell, talking with someone in irc and in game and it would take 2 mins or more for a tell to show up for us after it was sent - and will *always* disconnect shortly after receiving it. I tried to track, and nothing would show up on the list. Regardless of interacting with the world, or zone we always got disconnected within 5 minutes of logging into ToT.

I forgot to add, we have both raided in this zone before, the first time Ruin raided there. Nothing I can think of, including hardware and software has changed since we successfully played in this zone. (all other software is been turned off during these tries except for trillian) It's only been the last week and a half or so we can not get into this zone.
 
starting with the basics, did you try turning off all extra textures in your eqclient.ini? maybe something to do with updated textures int eh zone? it could be a million things, but dumbing down the textures, and texture quality, possibly texture caching and whatever the zone file caching option is called would help.

don't know if you tried these. But, until something else comes up, they are something to try.
 
Before I had just turned off the texture caching and deleted those files.

I tried this afternoon to turn the cache back on, and log on a couple times to see if perhaps the preload of the zone would allow me to log on after a few times, I got up to 10 minutes with the abililty to send and recieve tells, track, and forage. and then the same you have been disconnected =(

Then I tried Riesen's suggestion and turned off the other extra's as well, and deleted the cache again, and logged in, was able to track but went LD before a tell or a forage showed up on my screen. (less then 2 mins)
 
ok, so when you say ld... are you getting pl bug in some hastened form? or is it an isntant crash to server? or a client shut down? are you using eqw or eqgame.exe patchme?
 
I have been connected now for 14 mins, with constant lag breaking up my bar, although it usually stays green. (this is the second time logging on after trying previous suggestions) for LD, in this case, I mean the screen goes black and says you have been disconnected.

I am using the SoD patcher to log on.
 
Try using with and without EQW, though I doubt this is the problem.

Have you tried disabling firewalls, antivirus-scanners, registry protectors, on-guard spyware detection, etc?
 
not sure if its possible anymore with the new EQ live patcher, but have u tryed to download all the optional patches from it?

Really weird problem...
 
If you use a router, try plugging directly into the internet.

What Firewall software do you use?

Is Windows firewall on? check in control panel > security center

also disable any unused network adapters. in control panel > network connections, right click and disable any that are not being used.

As a longshot try editing the datarate.txt file in the EQ directory to a higher number.
 
no firewall, or any other programs running like that Homogenn.
I logged on earlier after turning off all the extra's and was able to stay connected on both computers.

My guild ported up tonight, and neither of us were able to log on at all.

We went back through eqclient.ini and made sure that all the models and luclin related settings were turned off, no caching, no models, lighting etc. texture set to low. I tried using EQW, and back to the patcher...

That got me back to my original problem - now i can get a character logged on but go LD within several minutes and can not effecively interact with the world.

in frustration my husband just upped our DSL speed but I doubt that is it either.

We do use a router, I will try plugging right into the dsl after this.

Firewall and antivirus/spyware, are AVG and are shut off or disabled . No windows firewall, daterate was set at 8, moved to 10. no unused network adapters.
 
plugged straight into the dsl line kept us connected for a few minutes, didn't stay on long enough to see if it would let us stay on that way, there are 3 of us on this connection so =(
 
is 3 minutes a record? you didn't disconnect? you try telling or whatever other things were giving you issues?
 
3 mins about average for how long we're staying connected. We can interact with tells, foraging and tracking for the first minute, sometimes two before it gets lagged followed by the disconnect message.

Try lowering your datarate to 6 and 4, though I doubt that'd work.

It really sounds like something's eating the packets.
 
New very puzzling info.

Lowered data rates without success.

Bypassed the router alltogether on Hubby's pc and could not log on ToT.

Tried my kids wireless laptop to connect and was able to interact with the world upon zoning in, did not stay long. Logged off, and plugged his laptop into the router, and could not get into ToT anymore.

Tried taking files from the kids folder, still could not log on with or without router.

Reset all the router settings to default, still could not log on i
