TO: TMap vendors and those interested in becoming one

The market value of treasure maps seems to be suffering from some over supply and/or reduced demand issues ATM. I've talked to other fishers and they are all a little anxious about prices falling off. The major problem is what is known as "undercutting" where because maps are not selling fast enough people will reduce their prices below the lowest seller, as to sell theirs first. The following are quotes from various fishers I've talked to over the past few weeks, from memory:

"There are always new fishers to undercut"
"...after not selling maps for a month I had to drop"
"I don't care about how low I sell for..."
"TMap prices have fallen drastically"
"...soon enough, a VD map will only be selling for a couple hundred plat"

The focus of this topic is to try and drum up any individuals interested in the issue. If you have a fisher, a frequent map vendor or are interested in the in-game economy feel free to contact me or reply to this thread. I'll be conducting simple research regarding TMap prices over the next month.

Undercutting exists with all Tradeskills, hate to say it but....deal with it.

It will happen moreso here cause the items can be gotten by means other then fishing and can not sell to vendors afaik.

If you wanna 'research' it, feel free but the prices for maps are decided by players and anything your research shows wont change a single price one way or the other most likely.

If anything, you may want to suggest a merchant price be put on maps to help remove some of the overstock that people just wanna dump instead of having them eternally in banks/listsolds.

There's no whining in the OP.

No deal with it's necessary. I recognize the problem and I am not making any suggestions at the time. If you want to troll please take your hatarade somewhere else.

Now I suggest we end this current correspondence if it's just going to lead to inane forum banter.

However you did make some good points, thank you for that.

Hey heres some breaking news coming from the studio

If maps are selling for less than they dig for than you can dig them and get some pp

Sounds good Alex

Truth. This may not work for everyone, especially not with higher tier maps.

Nobody accused you of whining. Dont be so damned defensive, you made a thread about tmap prices dropping due in majority to undercutting a deal with it was warranted.

First all the prices you seen have been insanely high (aka the demand of tmaps have been big) a Difficult tmap goes for what 1.8-2.5k nowdays , Ve for 200 , Easy for 250 ?.

Take a look 6 months back when i was doing tmaps for an alt and drello was buying D tmaps for hes ring of warding ( hi5). Back then the market was about 120-150 for a VE 200 for E , D was about 1k-1.2k. Moderates i bought for 300 pp each.

But during that time there where alot of new guilds like Asesinos and Amicii and maybe more who started to buy alot of tmaps to gear up their guilds. You started to see ppl /auc for buying thoose tmaps. Then the prices went skyhigh.

Now the market is getting back to normal again and the fishers have to many of the tmaps just put em on your listsold and dont fish more for a while ( i dont understand how you can put up so much time with fishing ARGH!).

I was about to answer the same. The TMaps went to extremely overpriced during the summer, and are just starting to get back to normal.

In April, I was buying the VE TMaps for 150, the E for 200, the M ones for 300. I wasn't buying D TMaps because we werent half close to that at the time, but they were just a bit over 1000. The VD were going for 1500. There was even a point where the VE would sell for 100 (same as the simple ones).

between April and september, SoD got a pretty big influx of new players, and has had a double exp week as well, wich means many many people brought one, or several chars up to 65. It resulted in a handfull of new guilds, and lots of needs for gears. The prices did rocket up.

They are finally getting back down, and that's good.

Interesting.

I'm too new to the server to know this. I wonder if prices for everything fluctuate based on season. It makes sense that during the summer there would be a larger player base, hence more demand.

Form a fisherman's union then collectively raise the prices. Afterall, there are no SoD antitrust laws (yet).

You could try to peddle your wares under a collective "Fair Trade" organization which guarantees a price for your maps

You could even buy out your competition

Actually, yes, prices do fluctuate depending on the time of year. When more people play and demand is higher, then the prices go up. As previously stated, TMaps also suffer because they can be fished AND dropped. Currently not many people do them, so a lot are currently in circulation.

O.rly? Lol..
Jan, Jul, Aug, Dec are the high population on SoD, where there are vacation on schools and many players have more time to play (So Euro & America catch up eachothers on times)

As Iaeolan said, for an union or even better a company. Gather around 10 fishers, gather all maps and sell in bulks for guilds or other players with special discount. OMG Back to Economicst and Administration class =/

I was totally being facetious.... and honestly... you think the 2 week winter break influx is higher than the THREE MONTH summer break? oh right, you're aline... I understand now.
Winter break has JUST started for colleges who get out way earlier than any high schools... in a week the price may rise a bit, but it will go back down only to rise during the summer months

Exactly my point. The prices were higher in the summer because more people played. It is just the beginning of December so people aren't back from school just yet. What are you trying to even say here?

Actually the lower prices are a combination of more fishers [i know of 5 or 6 big fishers since the summer] which leads to competition and undercutting, as well as the situation stated above: how the double xp week in conjunction with the summer season led to many new guilds trying to gear up [after getting 65] to raid, leading to more demand.

The situation will probably solve itself if left alone. I know at least one person that's grabbing some of the cheaper tmaps while they last. Others probably will as well. When more people start doing tmaps because they are cheaper, supply will drop and prices will adjust.
