To Slow or to Damage Shield...

Ah. I wish to begin a great debate. Given 2 Monks of the same level, with the same gear and the same AA's; Would you prefer to be given a DS or for the mob to be slowed? Consider the Druid or Shaman that this Monk would be duoing with to be equipped relatively the same. As a player of the "game" for many years I understand the importance of slow, (not to mention the benefit of haste that a shaman can provide) especially in the upper tiers of the game. Where the DS might heavily outshine the slow in the early game, possibly even up to as high as mid 30's-40's, I still personally think a Shaman would duo better with a monk.

But, as a relatively new member of this community, I would like to hear the opinions of others as well. I know in the end it will ultimately be my choice and how I like to play. I can tell you that I have played most every class to at least 40 (excluding dru, wiz, nec, and bard). So I would especially be interested in hearing from the pro-druid section since I am not quite as familiar with them.

Thank you for your time and thought!

It depends on what mob(s) you're talking about. If you're talking HHK floors 1-3, don't bother slowing for mass killing is more efficient, but floor 4 in HHK the mobs kinda tear through you, so slow.

This is talking from my own perspective/experiences.

My brother boxes a druid/monk combo and he is unstoppable. Druid heals are the 2nd best in the game and being able to port yourself is sweet.

As brimz stated it is entirely dependent on what mob and what situation you're in.

I always duo with Cinn/Naragako (Mnk/Shm) fully raid buffed, so it isn't so much a question of choosing slow or DS for me, but if I am farming or mass pulling blue mobs with minimal DPS I will always leave them unslowed to maximize my DPS output.

There wont be a clear victor in this debate as the question is highly situational, both in mob and zone choice, risk of area, and with character gear and personal comfort level of play.

If you can sustain a substantial manapool while keeping your monk alive while leaving the mobs unslowed and with little risk of death, awesome.

If you are keeping your monk alive with the mobs unslowed but draining healer mana at an alarming rate, it's obvious that you should alter your play style to maximize efficiency.

There are too many factors and this question is entirely too situational for me to give you a cut and dry answer but hopefully this satisfies some of your curiosity.
