Time Management

I have come to love WR as a replacement for my five year long stint on live. Some people ask me why in the **** did you play so long? The main reason: I could plan what I wanted to do. I knew far in advance before I logged in that I was going to figure out how to go after a certain piece. So if I had a couple hours on any particular day, my time in EQ could be maximized.

I understand the admins wishes to keep items unlisted so that they may be discovered. But since the loss of WR Guide, there has been no good way to find out information about quests. Searching this board gets one terrible results.

I work for a living plus go to school. I like to log in and get my play time. It'd be nice to do more than give a shout to guildies and hunt for 45 minutes. Because in two hours of log on time, and subtract about 30 minutes for coming and goings. You're left with 15 minutes to set up and 45 minutes of slay time.

So. Anything that could to done to optimize our play time would be highly useful and draw more folk to WR.

but...

Isn't learning it half the fun?

I've never heard of someone min/maxing their play time. :p

Not really. Learning the hard way is not very fun. Currently Wiz wonders why there are so many high level people in newbie armor. Well folks, this is it. When people get quest information, it doesn't get written down anymore. So what happens when people leave the game? Information gets lost thats what. In addition, it's hard to get knowledge because not many mobs even quest giving mobs respond to hails! You have to hand them something or say something.

People want to do quests. The minority of folk want to raid. I like having faction and dealing with NPC's. If I ever joined a raiding guild, I would be KOS everywhere.

Lets get a solution where people can find out information about shoulder piece x. It is quested and the quest starts with mob y. Hail mob y to begin quest.

If you want this shit, than do it. Write down the quest results in the 2 hours you spend creating this "needed" information site. Do not let others do your job, that is lazy. As for information leaving with those who leave, this is only the error of those who dont share info, or those who refuse to listen/ask. This loss of information caused by older players leaving is also what helps Wr seem so new to so many people. When I started on wr there was no info, it was a new world. If I had some guide laying around to min/max my camps, not only would I miss out on alot of content by exploring but, I would easily burnout at a much faster pace than I am now. Even to this day I am finding new drops and quests, encounters and content.

Learning is the hard way is not very fun.

On that note I eagerly await your new effort to make a proper site that you so strongly feel would fill in the information gap.

Before all the "OH MAN LEARNING IS ALL THE FUN ROFFELS YOU BIG FAGGOT" let me say that I agree to some extent. Learning isn't that fun all the time, and speaking as someone who's spearheaded probably at least at one time the most content discovery of anyone on the server, I'll note that I definitely wouldn't have minded an Allakhazam or something once in a while.

However, it's never going to be done by the admins or GMs (because that would be horribly gay), so if you want a new WR Guide, you better get started. Detailed player guides should be written by players, for players.

Allaka-stump?

Hmmm...work, school, plus use up any remaing time to operate a website!! Fantastic! Where do I sign up! Yep I sure wanna be the WR Allakazam. *NOT* And I know you would look forward to such a site and would likely use it daily much like most of the other folk on WR would.

"What? Go look it up on allaka-stump f00!"

I'm just saying folks that while discovery is "fun", it wears off fairly quickly. The information existed in the past. I'd gladly host it on my server. If anyone wanted to run it, that'd be fine too. I'm just maxed already with my current time resources and I use WR to unwind. Is it so terrible that I'd like to know a *little* information so I can use my time wisely? Some of my time that becomes money goes to the support of WR. I'd like the tools to enjoy WR even more fully with the limited time I have.

It's cool you don't have a lot of time, but if nobody else does either, you just won't get a WRGuide. :)

So it looks like this thread on a sorely needed info request has been answered with a "make it yourself but we'll use it".

Ok.

All I wanted was some static info and I'd even host it to share.
**********************************************

Tell yall what. I'll produce a site with db and all. I'll load up packet collectors ala Allakazam and start taking submissions.

BUT HERES THE CATCH.

To do a detailed search, you must be a SILVER member of WR or better.

HAHHAHAHAH

isn't that essentially what you're asking the community to do for you? and i believe you're the only one in this thread who 'sorely' needs it. i like your idea of a player supported info db but the more you type the more hypocritical you sound, and that last post came off as incredibly power trippy. :\

if you find time inbetween school and work and whatever else to make this site do post up instructions on how to contribute. Even if i'm not a SILVER member atleast those who are can benefit if they choose to. (which also sounds like a membership-ish type thing, so i'm sure the WR staff will have nothing whatsoever to do with your site.)

Community use

I am a bit miffed. There's no doubt. The information exists or at least existed. Someone's got a copy. Share and share alike. Like I said, I'd even host it for free. But in regards to the potential site ...

Here's a better break down for ya...

Simple searches are free to anyone. Detailed searches require that you are a WR supporter.

This sounds like an excellent idea that we staffers can only fully endorse. :patriot:
