The zone crashing bug

For those know don't know, I'm talking about the bug where the client "hangs up" or locks up when zoning a character, forcing the player to restart the game. Is there any known way to fix this? Or plans to fix it, I know a decent amount of people suffer from it. This server is amazing, the staff is great and the players are fun to be around, but this is a very crippling bug and making it very unplayable. I've been playing for a few weeks and trying to ignore it until it was fixed, but it's just getting too frustrating.

Got that same feeling here man. Not only is the zone bug annoying, the fact that once you log out, logging back in is a pain in the rear. I died in Dreadfang a few hours ago and havent been able to log on since. And this isnt the eqgame.exe bug, its the client crash you get right as your about to enter the world.

Its almost as if my character is in some uncharted spot on the map so it just crashes till a GM moves you to a different zone.

I agree that this server is much better than any other Emu server out there, as well as better than eqlive, but the darn login bug combined with the zone crashes is making the game almost unplayable. Fixing those two bugs are imo the main things to do, although its probably very hard to narrow down what is causing it, which is why they seem to be working on other things as well.

Either way, good luck fixing it. I wish I could help but my eqemu knowledge is little to none.

If we knew how to fix it, it would have been done ages ago, but that's what makes the bug even more annoying; We haven't been able to track it down. We all zone hang at times. Every last one of us. And on every server, i'm pretty sure. It's just what comes with EQemu at this time.

I actually think it got worse after the first bazaar event.

Before that i'd hang up once every 10 zones or rarely at all.

Now it's 50% or more. Some people are hanging up on every zone.

Granted I believe trades have become alot more stable =)

Aye same here. After that bazaar event a LOT of people have been complaining about zone hang ups. Yes we all get hangups on every server, but not anywhere near as much as we get on WR now. As karl said, its almost a 50/50 chance of crashing. And with that 50/50 chance of crashing comes the 10% chance of logging back in.

It has almost come to the point where people wont leave the zone they logged into, afraid to lose connection. I just wish there was more I could do about it, other than actively complaining about it :p Id rather be a part of fixing it.

Well, to tell you the truth, I no longer get a lot of zone hangs. After today, it seems that I have gotten 1 zone hang out of 10 zones. Maybe it's the same thing as the login bug?

Thats weird. I've been having less problems after the event. Usually within a few hours, I'll go idle and just be kicked back to character select. Ever since the event, that rarely happens all day. As for zone hangs. I know for me it only happens in one zone. Maybe after the event you got the levels, and moved to a different zone to exp, and that one zone is sticky where the other zones are not. For me it seems to be Firstruins. I have about a 1 in 3 chance in getting in that zone on first try. It's annoying, but tolerable.

I did something about the problem yesterday. It should be a lot better now.

Aye, I could zone into areas I would always crash, I havnt had a login bug lately and I have zoned 14 times w/o 1 hang. Although its not Wiz's doing, It's the gnomish coders from Finland!

I don't know if this will help you tracking, but every time I zone into the Hidden Temple of Yaralith (old teple of cazic thule) my client crashes and asks me to send info to them. Did anyone got to fix this?

a lot of zoning crashes are caused by corrupted *.TXC files, aka wrong texture cache, that has been cached on live or has been cached before a zone revamp - easy solution: open your EQ folder, delete ALL *.TXC files. Then EQ will create new and accurate cache files and lot of crashes won't happen anymore. I managed to get both of my clients nearly crashfree like this.

Another tip is if you run 2 clients in the same EQ folder, open the dbg.txt, delete everything in it, save, close it, then write protect it. Don't ask me why, but the brute disabling of EQs debuglogging took away like 60% of client crashes on live servers already for me.

Next one is to set down your GFX settings to 16 bit instead of 32 bit colors, this will take out lot of stress from your system and memory and make EQ therefor run smoother and less instabile too. Btw the loss of graphic quality is almost not to see. Turning down the texture quality to medium instead of high will add another share of stability and performance at very little costs.
