The way this community works... (careful: straight talk)

deleted, sense liam apparently doesn't want any ideas, or help.

Good god what did you think to gain by making this post?

EDIT--Also, in general it's bad karma to tell staff how to do their job except where they specifically ask for that kind of input.

gain.. nothing.. i had posted before Liam edit his post, with a few questions.. but apprently the GM's are pretty much done dealing the nameing stuffs, so i edit it, and deleted it.

i never TOLD anyone how to do their job. I was simply asking questions.

That makes sense. It just looked a little like emo-stylin' snarky "from the depths of my mother's basement, I stab at thee!" sass. Might want to word it a little differently than "deleted, sense liam apparently doesn't want any ideas, or help", if that wasn't your intent :)

eh? i dont' see anythign wrong with it, according to his post above.. /shrug

If they dont' want ideas from outside the GM's thats up to them.

I'm not a forum staber from the mothers basement. Not sure my wife would be happy liveing in my parents basement =)

I don't think i'm a 'shit sturrer.' I do like to ask questions, and help people.. but thats about it...

The comment about the 'Jr-GM wanna bees' i felt was kinda pointed my way.. I have only been 'part' of this community for three weeks. No way in hell I would expect to be any sort of GM.. I dont' think i would accpet even if asked.. Dont' have the time for it. And if i was asked.. I would probably be afriad of who the current GM's are.

It wasn't directed at you at all, more so those who feel the need to point out what they feel are naming infringements in OOC/Winter's Beginner's, wherever.

We like, accept, and consider criticism regarding some things, but we've got a whole lot of precedent set up and to change policy now would be a bit bad.

Suggestion - While not to add to the ongoing and everlasting workload; might be a good idea to keep a list going that is kept in your Admin forums of new names that should be added to the list of denied names when people create toons to keep up with current and new (Movie names, famous people etc).

That said, Maliciosa: you've got some things right but some things wrong. Point by point, here's where I stand.
I don't expect to be 100% correct by everyones standards - that's why I wanted a debate to see where others stand on the issue... :)

I'm betting that your 'respect' point is more of a lead-in to the thread locking thing anyway.
I did sort of have that in mind, yes. Guilty as charged.

For that, I disagree. Threads about topics we've all seen a hundred billion times do need to be locked.
Ack. I think I posted that above somewhere - for topics that are "solved" (suggestion rejected counts as "solved" I guess), locking doesn't hurt that much. But it has happened to other threads as well. I am not trying to bring up that issue again, but it's the one example that pops into my mind: Patcher-discussion. While some few people were just complaining maybe, the rest was either asking questions or - the important part - trying to find a workaround. And in the middle of that - when I asked for a machine.config file, the thread was locked - people can still PM me with that, but there is no more chance to exchange info about this with the forum readers.

EDIT--Also, in general it's bad karma to tell staff how to do their job except where they specifically ask for that kind of input.
Actually I was asking for a little more respect for the time >I< invest into posting a suggestion - just as much as I respect the work done by the staff. Has happened at least twice to me now that one of the threads where I posted in and wanted some feedback, has been locked so that my posts were kinda useless in the end because people couldn't reply to them anymore. If you count that as telling em how to do their work then I guess I did. I still find the issue important - I don't really want to stick to the game without using the board at all because it's just frustrating to post here.

Regards,

Maliciosa

When name calling and flaming gets into threads, any intelligent discussion is usually gone, no matter what you try. At least that's what I've noticed.

Well, Maliciosa, as much as we'd like to be nice and respect your elevated "M$" trolling of a support thread...

Yeah, who am I kidding. We owe you absolutely nothing, and we don't have to discuss any policies with you. We take suggestions as a courtesy, not as a duty. And we will certainly police the forums as we - not you see fit. If you want to open free dialogue on WR policies such as the naming policy, start your own forums to discuss on.

You have two pages of posts in this thread alone discussing your questions and ideas ... in a calm and civilized manner it seems almost any thread is allowed to live and die on its own natural course. This thread alone kinda debunks your whole argument if you stop and think about it. An unlocked thread that is questioning the policies and staff and fostering constructive debate. I don't see the man popping up to try and keep you down.

I may be wrong on this but I think, just maybe, that Liam and the other GM's are somewhat tired of discussing this particular topic.

I must say when I began to read your initial thread, Mal, I agreed. This was until I had a short think about the issue in general, and realised that what I agreed with wasn't your point at all, but the general notion of free speech, which;

1) Never exists in a pure form, and never will - regardless of community.
2) Lives healthily to degree within the WR community, as this post shows.

I feel that you began with admirable aims, but went a tad too far with your objective. We all have our opinions on the naming policy, nobody can destroy these, and we all have access to a choice, namely;

1) Be willing to forget/rethink/ignore our negative opinions toward an issue, and continue to play happily.
2) Allow these negative opinions to become more important than the game itself, in which case, stop playing.

Finally, I appreciate your ability to put forward a point, regardless of how skewed it may appear, without resorting to anger...Which is more than can be said for some other players here, (usually myself included). I look forward to listening to your opinion on other issues, this discussion, however, is dead.

Doh .. keep forgeting about that as my server at the house runs it's own DNS and I added the Records vs. editing all the files and hosts etc etc etc
