The Not So Distant Sound of Thunder

Howdy!

I've been rather overwhelmed by the loud volume of the thunder sounds on SoD when it rains in a zone. It is much louder than it is on Live, and I've received feedback from other folks who have also noted the extreme difference in volume.

I do not want to have to turn my volume way down, or turn my sound off. So... I was wondering if anyone has had any success at eliminating the thunder sounds (besides Cull Storm ;))?

I removed the 'thunder1.wav' and 'thunder2.wav' files from my 'sounds' directory, yet when logging into the client, the thunder sounds are still there when it is raining in a zone. I am assuming the sound is embedded (?) in a 'sounds.eff' or 'sndbnk.eff' file, and thus there is no easy way to make that sound go away for good--but if anyone has any ideas, I would surely appreciate it!

Many thanks! :)

Turn off enviromental sounds. I petitioned this a lot on live to get this feature. It was terrible in, I think, LOIO.

Most unfortunately, Environmental Sounds (specifically, the Environmental Sounds button under the General Tab in Options) does not seem to effect this, I sure wish it did though. :(

I've tried various combinations of turning sounds off, turning Environmental Sounds on (or off--I have them off by default--and in my eqclient.ini, the Environmental Sounds setting is as follows: EnvSounds=0) zoning, zoning back in, turning volume up to 5% (which then sets the rain sound to a low volume, which is a nice workaround for controlling the volume of the rain sound at least :)), then turning the volume up a bit more--but the thunder sounds are still there when I turn my volume up, regardless of the Environmental Sounds setting being on or off.

Thunder sounds seem to only respond to the Sound Volume slider only--the problem is they are *very* loud (in relation to all other sounds) and drown out and overwhelm every other sound in the game.

Hang around a fireplace with a roaring fire in it... you'll think thunder is a tiny tapping sound.
