The Monk Class

Hi there, I'm new to the community, having played EQ for about 3 years starting in 1999, then dropping once that damn Lost Dungeons of Norrath expansion. My main on live was a Human Monk, and I challenge anyone to break my record of stupid things done. Now that I'm thinking of re-entering the game, I had a few questions surrounding the class, as I hope to play an Iksar Monk once my Everquest Titanium Edition arrives.

Firstly, have there been any substantial changes to the equipment avaliable at low levels? I remember increasing Brewing and Tailoring to make a Cured Silk Set- is that still the prefered method of gearing a Monk? As for weaponry, I used my fists forever. Is that still viable, or are there other options out there?

As for making an Iksar, and forgive me if this isn't a strictly class related question, is the whole 'hated in every city" standing still ingame? Or am I going to be welcomed outside of my scaly home? Please let me know your thoughts, as well as any other tips you might have for a returning Monk. Thanks,

Bishop

Pretty much everything changed.

Brewing/Tailoring has been revamped clompletely and you will find other ways to gear your lowbie monk (lots of quest and useful drops you can pick up).

The "hated in every city thing" is different here, Iksar Monk is probably the way to go but I am biased.

That aside there aren't really a lot of tips I could give you, just log on and goof around, you'll find out what I mean.
Welcome :)

Not one single thing of what you think from there will carry over to here.

Thin of it as a completely new game that you have never played before using the same art.

if you make an iksar monk then as you level do the grobb monk newbie quests. I used most of that armor into the 30s.
Work on the wyvernfang coast armor and belt quest and the starfall monk quests.
You will be suprised at how quickly you can get decent armor / weapons for the monk class for the lower lvls.
The weight limit will screw with you a lot, part of life so get use to it here.
Once you start playing look up the higher lvl monks and ask questions, a lot of them helped me out a ton when I started on SOD.

thats pretty much the best way of putting it. when it comes to graphics its all the same...but everything else is about 95% different.

iksar is the way to go with a monk. ac/regen bonus etc. and your fists are good to use also.

iksars arnt hated, its more class hate if you will. necros are hated by pallys. my monk is kos to rogues, and so on. deitys are picked unless your a SK pally or a frog. then you are forced into a religion.
we do have wars that occasionally occur...and the troops are all iksar but dont let that fool you. might want to read the books you are given in the beginning. :toot:
