Use first command to list yourself or group on the global network for 1 hour. Other commands help you search listings or something like that.

Instead of people logging on asking, Any groups? 25 whatever class LFG, and then logging off 10 minutes later... maybe with something like this, we could help people see what groups are available and contact others? If it becomes popular, I can search all groups and across all ranges that are interested in more, and find one fast. Could even have a link on the website link the vendor list so someone can see without logging in?

I like playing with newbs sometimes... its just hard to find them and also hard to find them in the same level range as my chars.

/cm LFG <lvl start> <lvl end>

i.e. /cm LFG 10 50 - lists all the people listed as LFG between 10 and 50 (inclusive).

/cm LFG ALL = /cm LFG 1 65

Well that is true on a server so small everyone knows eachother and what they are capable of/have access to/alts they have that are useful, This isn't a terrible idea, but id rather see dev effort put into things like Patch notes when items are nerfed instead of ninja nerfing and playing the mini game of patch last night time to check my items, or making new content, or fixing the mountain of xp people have to finish to meet the social norm of useful even tho thats a myth.

These things take priority imo

i know this doesn't answer the want for complex commenting, but how about starting a public channel named LFG? set up an OOC ad to get people who don't read the forums in. use /list [channel] to see who is in it (indicating they're lfg) and obv use the channel to organize groups ~

Idk if the channels will continue to exist after everyone in it logs out or not. If it does people could either /join LFG when they log in, or set a /autojoin LFG for when they log in. If there were some way to auto leave the channel once a group is created with 3+ people (so you can still be LFG while 2boxing) would be stellar.

Even without the later part, the first would still work. Just a little effort, and from the server as a whole.

That does not really do anything beyond the existing /lfg on. The whole point is to be able to list information that people can see any time instead of tabbing into SoD every X minutes and hitting an /ooc macro then hoping someone lfm happens to see it.

Also, the age old "dev time could be better spent tending to the thing that matter to ME, waaaaaa" argument seems even weaker and dumber than usual (a real feat!) since this system would take all of copy and editing the /cmd listadd and /cmd listview commands.

These commands are not particularly simple. They're bound up with the iterators full of list data which read from and write to SQL tables and send out worldwide server packet updates to make sure it's consistent between zones but with limitations to make sure people can't hang a zone by having a bot check things super rapidly etc...

Not saying it couldn't be done, but it would take a little more thought than copy+paste. Making entries expire after an hour or if the person logs out or such like would take some doing.

Sorry, I did not mean to imply it was copy, paste, dance. If someone were to do it they would have to remove the /target banker limitations of listadd / listview without breaking the game and change the 96 hour duration to something much shorter like an hour. Adding the log off check seems like a potentially gigantic undertaking for a minor convenience.

Or SoD 3.0.

look, there are normally like only 0 to 3 people using /lfg at any given time as it is, dividing this up into smaller groups seems counter intuitive at best, it's not like you do a /lfg all and get 700 names you have to sort through. I don't understand any advantage to this besides making the system even more complicated and less likely to be used than it already is.

/LFG is more useful for raiding when you need an invite. -.- No one uses LFG. Everyone for some reason likes to use anon. You can say this idea wouldnt help. Personally Id be constantly listing myself and my chars to try and get groups. I got 65's, 55's, and other ranges of levels. I log on and spend 30 minutes trying to find groups sometimes only to be told, too low or need this class etc. I log off after and think "what a waste of time."

If I could log on and see... hmm anyone need tank? Anyone need DPS @ 65? etc and if I cant find anything, make one ooc msg, and I can log off in 5 minutes KNOWING that I didnt miss any groups most likely. The plan isnt perfect. The plan is precarious at best. However Id really like to be able to list LFG with a small msg and if it worked... people would honestly use it up the wazoo and the server would be marginally improved in terms of promoting grouping and newb play imho.

The other day I was doing /who 20 30, /who 30 40, and I have to contact everyone on that list asking if they want to group with me. Many of whom told me Im busy, Im playing with my sibling, etc etc.... Is this REALLY the best method? :\

Okay, i guess i will post my thoughts on this idea and things.

Easier solution:disable anon.
Disabling anon is an awful idea for level 65 players, as it causes problems for 6 man and raid encounters and claims. Claims are already sketchy and cause problems.

This would be a cool idea to help new low level players, except that many of them wouldnt know how to use it, or many people wouldnt use it. A good idea on paper, but I dont really know how many players would actually use it in game.

I think a better, more elegant solution would be to popularize the use of an LFG custom chat channel since those now exist.

/join LFG

Getting it to be a normal thing would just be a matter of people suggesting it when there are characters calling out LFG in OOC. This wouldn't happen overnight, but it would encourage communication, and the things like those ranges of levels listed in the original post would be created by the playerbase and adjusted to meet their needs naturally.

Besides that, custom chat channels provide a much lower learning curve for new players. That's a major advantage over a /cmd.
