Tank Boots

Hey folks,

For a while now I have felt that there are some major inconsistancies among tank boots in the higher end. If you look at a lot of high lvl tanks there are really only two options. These are rotter boots or the boots of first flesh.

Here is the general line of progression of tank boots, per my tier thingy (I realize the tier thingy isnt infallable, but it will do for this purpose.)

After that there is pretty much no tank boots up untill rotters in torment. (Livia boots could be considered but they arent really for a tank....

Here are rotters boots-

Now this is where I think there is a problem. These boots are insanely good for their tier, and proceed to be the best boots for a tank even when there are other tank boots dropping many tiers ahead... lets take a look.

Here are some inferior boots from COD-

And some that are approaching the same quality as rotters boots from Earth Terror-

Now you might be saying that the boots have more stats, more mana etc etc. The fact of the matter is that the AC on rotters boots is good to the degree that trading out the rotters boots for these is at best a parallel upgrade. I am calling for rotters boots to be lowered a little in power, and the other boots that are tiers after them to be upgraded to be true upgrades from the spiked screechmetal.

Here is the first upgrade to screechmetal from Ghar, a mob a long long long ways off from Rotters-

Anyway, thanks for reading, comments appreciated as always.

I can agree with this, there's definitely some oddities in tank boot progression. Will see what can be done about them.

I know that they don't drop off of a raid mob, but I still consider Tarlisha boots a raid level tank item, they're 22ac 70hp and 36% haste, I'd put them a tier above the cmal3 boots and the spiked screechmetal boots. They're extremely rare, but they're an excellent haste slot item for a tank, Coltaine and Linken both used them for an extremely long time.

On the other hand, I would agree that the screechmetal are an exceptional tank item for the tier they drop off of and could use a slight adjustment.

I know most people are giant aligned... but frost rim? those fit in there nicely... somewhere (not a tank)

From what I remember, there are big holes for nearly every class. For instance, take a look at the mid-high end monks. I see alot of odd shoulders, such as Swordfishfin Mantle, Darksun, etc... This is in monks that are up through sepulcher!!! Another is monk arms, Sleeves of Avoidance is pretty much the only option, except maybe the trash loot leather arms from PoT. Anyways, holes and parellel upgrades hapen.

Imp hide
Damask

I was talking about raid gear... Unfortunetly, both those items are still options, which shouldnt be the case that high up in the raid game.

Why not?

It fills the gaps in your raid gear...which is the point. Imagine how the first guilds managed before Imp Hide / Spider Silk.

Thats the point, there should be upgrade options throughout the raid game, 1 or 2 at each level (low end, mid game, high end). The first guilds running through hopefully brought up some of the gear gaps... maybe were told later. Its later, and they still exist. I bring up monk cause thats what I know.

There are holes, hopefully new content will fill them.

This post isnt about a hole in a certain classes equipment, it is about an absurdity in the progression it currently has. Holes are filled in time )

Yinzara arms, which you mentioned, are fine until Sepulcher/Xavara. I still wear em =(

well honestly all clases boots don't have a clear progression.. there is the UBER one.. then like nothing (plate is a exception when there are a couple that are semi kinda not really in the same class)

example: for casters

fbest atm imo are immaculate next Farg Slippers (for nukers really) and Vile (cause of the mana) for everyone else. But since vile has haste on it no druid, cleric etc will ever get those. The only good healer boots pre-Thaz imo are the EC anklet with FT1. Comparing this with other boots that are raidable, there are NONE for druids to really wear pre-THaz. Clerics have CoD Boots or ET boots, Nukers have Farg boots.. druids have Vile? heh

maybe i am missing a pair of boots somewhere in there other than combine.

summoner boots are a decent option for raiding druids, range increment is pretty scarce on raiding items so it makes these boots more desirable than the stats themselves.
