Soulfire does not show flame

My soulfire does not have a flaming blade when in 2hs form. The 1hs does have flames. I just recently received this item so I have no idea if it is supposed to show a flame or not, but I would guess it does. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Nathan

Check your in game options (cntrl O) and make sure you have your particle effects turned up (ie: do you see particle effects on any other item)?

The 2hnder graphic actually uses environmental particles.

Ok, but do you know what setting needs to be turned on in the .ini file?

I've been testing but so far unable to find the correct one.

Thanks,

Nathan

I don't know if all of the following are related, but it seems from numerous posts in these forums, that the following four graphics issues may just be related to each other to some extent or another:
- Unable to see the 2H Soulfire particle effect.
- Unable to see the target ring.
- Unable to see the Portal effect.
- Unable to see old spell effects.

Now, I don't know if you have any issues with the other three items listed above, but I just wanted to mention it as a possibility.

After reading numerous past posts in these forums, it seems the only thing that appears to affect all four issues above may be the type of graphics card one has (due to my current graphics card, I personally am unable to see any of the above--though all of the above worked when I tested with a different card on the same system).

Here are a few posts that touch on the subject:

ParticleDensity=1 in the eqclient.ini is what I was talking about. I'm not really sure where you turn on/off environmental particles (if you even can mess with those settings).

I also have no targeting ring!

That is a seperate issue, and because we use an older game client if you use certain graphic cards there is no fix. See these threads for more information:

More specifically this reply from the second thread:

I've done extensive research on this ... it has to do with the Hardware TnL (Transform and Lighting). Many laptops do not support it, and I've read references to the way The Company has it coded into the client, that it is not compatible with any on board video card, nVidia 6800 series, and some ATI Series, mostly seen references to various 9000 series cards.

The only work around I have found is to use: 3D-Analyze -> http://www.tommti-systems.de/start.html <click Files>

The trouble is, to get this program to work right, you have to run SoD seperate from the patcher, meaning patch first, close patcher, then use a batch file created script to run SoD through 3D-Analyze. You also cannot use EQWindows if you want to use 3D-Analyze.

In the end I found it to be too much of a hassle to even worry about it just for the 3D Target Ring to work. I was quite disappointed as well, since I just got a new Dell Laptop about a month ago and it has a 256 Geforce 6800 Go card in it and the darn Target Ring doesn't even work ... but again it appears it's mostly due to the way The Company has it coded.

I will continue to poke around and see if I can find a better work around, but outside of changing the client, which is not possible, I don't know how we can get a fix for it. Though I have read that some older EQLive dll's could work, the one that's the issue is EQGfx_Dx8.dll

That's the best info I can provide at this time.

By separate issue do you mean that the targeting ring is not related to the soulfire 2h graphic?

From what I understand, yes. You should be able to fix the soulfire 2h graphic issue by changing the particle effects setting. The exact name of which I am not sure of, sorry.

Ah hah! Yep, that did it!

Fiddling about with the ENVIRONMENTAL PARTICLES setting (bottom right hand corner) under the Display tab in Options (ALT + O) allowed me to finally see the 2H Soulfire environmental particle effect. The setting needs to be at High (I had mine set to Low).

My apologies for convoluting this issue with my previous post regarding other graphics issues (of which all of those still remain). If you seem to have other graphics showing up for you, double check in your Options (ALT + O) under the Display tab on the upper left hand corner and see if you have the following setting selected: Show 3D Target Ring
