SoD work on Mac?

Hi everyone,

I played EQ way back in the day but am thinking of playing a little again. So now I have a question: Is it possible to get SoD to work on a Mac? I'm not sure that I'm asking in the right section, but I truly have looked everywhere I know to look for a solution. Is there a link somewhere someone could point me to in how to set this up?

Some background information:

I do have the Mac version of EQ installed. I manually downloaded the patch files for SoD and transferred them to my game directory after being unzipped. I see the .exe file in that directory but obviously that doesn't run on OS X natively. Any help (if there is a possible way to do this) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Its been done by a few that play, so its possible.

Not being a mac person myself, i really dont know how to go about doing it, but there are a few threads on the forums here that reference bootcamp.

Thanks for the reply. :) I'll keep searching around for the best solution. I'd rather not use Boot Camp but if it comes down to that, I may consider it. Some more information I forgot to include in my previous post is that I do have Virtual Box installed. One of my virtual machines is Ubuntu. I know that I can make EQ and SoD work via Virtual Box running Linux with Wine but I'm afraid that could severely impact performance, although I haven't tested this theory...yet.

actually, if you search ubuntu, there are several threads that reference running it through wine as well.

though you are right, a virtual machine emulating another machine sounds like it is needlessly complicated and may severely impact performance.

i used crossover to get it working. and it runs better and faster than any windows install i have used lawl.
it is possible from what i have gathered to run the mac version without the main EQ patcher running and then it would work that way. i don't have the mac version because i haven't owned a mac until recently when my job bought me one.
i'd be happy to help you or anyone else out if i can get ahold of the mac version and do my own testing on it.

I installed it on crossover and got the patcher to work but when I get into EQW, the game just starts spinning around my character and my mouse doesn't seem to work. I can't select anything or stop the rotation. Any fixes?

You cannot use EQW when running in crossover games, dont worry it will window it for you.

Edit: to the OP, DrHolly, You cannot use the Mac client as the patcher downloads a different eqgame.exe AND mac client differs greatly from the windows client (remember they couldnt even play on the same servers in Live). Crossover Games is your best bet and they have a 7day free trial. Well worth the price imo.

I have been trying for days to install shards of dalaya on my computer, it is a compaq.. I have installed titanium, and every time I try to run the sod patcher I cant find it where I downloaded it to and I cant run it...
