Small Enchanter Things

Nothing huge here. Nothing to 'really' give us a big boost or anything, but I wanted to address an old spell.

Curse of the simple mind. At max level (caps at 48) it reduces int / wis by 20 each.

This lowers total npc mana pool by, if they are at all like PCs, around 120 or so? 6*20 (I could be off hugely here, so this would be a moot request)

At level 34, enchanters get their first real mana 'drain' which takes 300 mana from the npc. It would make sense then, that instead of ever casting CotSM, you would just use the drain (which is further upgraded in higher levels).

Even taking into acount PC PvPing, the same idea applies. The spell is never upgraded.

Instead of updating the spell with another down the line, I would find it interesting if it were transformed:

Either stretching out the maximum effect to a drasticly higher int/wis reduction which maxes out at 65...

or a completely different spell idea, such as a debuff which could cause NPCs to occasionaly "fizzle" (or something coded to that effect)...

Or cancel all mana regen

If none of those are practical ( and I realize implimenting code to make an NPC fizzle is probably not huge priority) then the addition of another spell, perhaps in the high 50's, which drasticly reduces int/wis would be nice. Keeping in mind of course, the idea that it would have to be better than high end mana drain, which for lvl 61 is a drain of 650.

Also, while I'm at it:

Theft of Thought and Wandering Mind.

Neither of these "taps" of npc mana to self mana are ever upgraded, and each is an interesting spell idea. Modifying these spells so that they scale up to level 65 would be another neat idea.

The reason I feel that this wouldn't overpower enchanters are thus:

Spells restricted to NPCs with mana
Spells taking up already cluttered -and- stretched spell bar, making them situational [need based]
Mana regen in the high end can be capped easily anyway, making the regen of Wandering mind moot in some cases, helpful in others though
Both spells have a long recast, keeping them from being godsends
Additional mana wouldn't allow us to DPS like a wizard just because we had more mana regen, because of our DD cast time and recast

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So to recap:
I feel that Curse of the simple mind is an interesting spell idea, although highly situational, and would be nice to have looked at in balance with mana drains, and with the idea for use throughout the enchanting career. Possibly being changed to scale to the higher levels appropriately, or be added as a new spell.
Also, our two low end mana 'taps' would be interestingly situational also, if effective in the higher end as well.

Overall: Yay for spell lines that remain effective throughout!

Ooh, what if Curse of the Simple Mind was a reverse of those caster level buffs from live? I don't know if anyone rememebers them, but they raised your caster level (i think 4 levels for the better one?) for purposes of fizzling and interruption. Obviously mobs don't really deal with that, but what if Curse of the Simple Mind lowered the target's effective level for comparitive resists? Made it harder for them to land spells and easier for you to land spells on them, but not by a lot (obviously). Just a couple-level nudge.

Edit, or hell, that's too complicated--a simple Charisma debuff would be way easier to do. Just add -CHA to Curse of the Simple Mind and make it scale to a higher level, as Yally suggested. Badda-bing, badda boom.

I will admit to enjoying the idea of adding -CHA to CotSM. It didn't occur to me in the 2 seconds i actually took to process what could happen with the spell :psyduck:

-CHA debuffs would be win. Its frustrating that everyone turns to chanters against caster mobs, and our spell line up has one big boom (relic thoughshatter), and a variety of rather small caster-specific debuffs. a CHA debuff would be a good step up. I really do enjoy and use the rest of the anti-mana debuffs, but they end up feeling like a drop in the bucket.
