Yeah... but that is an extra few seconds for me to mez (if on bard) or to grab aggro off the cleric, at least until the tank can take it over proper. Wouldn't it be better to recast the hammer, instead of the cleric takign the beating, and the run and rez that might quickly follow that?

The hammer dies literally instantly, one hit, meaning it adds basically no extra time to save the cleric.
