Server population related to economy TS and grouping

Let's make some memory. Pre CnD we had an euro peak of 300, usa peak of 580, with an average of 420. Including bots, of course, and DC'ers. Back then, almost noone was a tradeskiller. I remember only Aarielly as tailor, and 2 of us rushing there. A piece of wyrm armor could score 225-500 pp, if only by rarity. Economy was flowing pretty fine, with low levels getting low level armor, and high levels having to farm for high level stuff + charms.

Pre 2.0 we had more or less same numbers... euro peak 250, usa peak 470, average 380. Prices drpped a little, due to more offer, but a tradeskiller could still get some money from it. pp drops were a bit nerfed, also.

Post 2.0 (nowadays) we have a euro peak of 180, usa peak of 350, average 250. Too many tradeskillers, so TS are mostly a money dump. Groups are rare, mostly cause most guilds had tu cut rooster in half. This also meant that your average guild will have 2-3 tanks, who usually log in just for raid.

Add the fact that SoD is becomming, every day, more raid focused There's new content, yes, but it's mostly raid oriented, or really high level oriented. The ongoing storyline stagnated.

My point here is that we're losing server population, which makes economy suffer (big money staying in game, new comers having no pp to buy the stuff, items become cheper, and, in the end, you'll get ayatik's bp on a level 15 first timer). Less population means less groups, which also means more soloing, which usually turns out as farming, which in the end turns out as tradeskilling. So we have now a server full of tradeskillers (who resell TS items under cost) and raiders, with some low levels. How many of those not-65 aren't really some alt?

Imo, server needs some more storyline going, but this seems imposible since Wiz is busy with DT... but, unless we want a server just raid oriented low level content/group content should be added periodically. And I don't mean just a zone like Rust... Sure Rust is group oriented... but has nothing to do with the ongoing story... it's just another zone just discovered, unrelated to any event in the past.

I also think this would bringmore population, which would refresh economy in the game.

I've said this about a million times, but we did not have a 450 peak population pre 2.0, that was six months before 2.0. Population dropped sharply after 2.0, then went back up to 2.0 levels and is now in a very slow decline.

there's going to be people leaving - first we said it was because of no high end content, and now that we have that, it's no other content?

Fix my class, fix my spells, fix my tradeskills, where's dawntide, and i want more money.

2.0 has good and bad points. I would not however buy into zairas circular blanket argument nor would I say that any issues cannot be addressed in time. I would give the rise in real plat entering the server some time before I started to talk about the current economy.

suprisingly i agree with this

zairas post seems pretty unnecessary tbh, we all know there are problems, and we all know more players would help these problems

I am under the opinion that there are a lot of people out there who would love SOD if they knew of its existance. Finding nostalgic EQ1 players who would give SOD a shot shouldnt be too hard and a good amount of people like that who try shards stick with it after they see what it is.

I think we should put more effort into getting the word out.

I think what Wold says is the point.

At least, I have talked about SoD to a lot of friends, and tbh, I also came here thanks to a friend that talked to me about it.

I've talked to my friends but they rather play a lame game like Runescape. Most of them play WoW, so just the idea of playing EQ ticks them off, just because of the game's age.

I said the same thing last night to a friend. A lot of people are looking for SOD, it's just not the easiest to find. Suprisingly, some time ago I googled SOD somewhat. I read reviews from other emu sites and they basically sounded bitter, selling SOD short. I'm not sure if this server is advertised at all, but I distinctly remember that "vote for me" link SOD used to display.

Any exposure is a plus IMO; SOD will sell itself as long as it remains the great server it has been.

Is there, or has there ever been, an advertising-like initiative for SoD?

Or is that not something we want to do because we want to keep SoD on the down-low from the Company That Be... or something?

SoD use to be on some MMORPG list sites. I'm not sure whether its still listed though.

If you go to wikipedia and search for EQemu, SoD is mentioned as "by far the largest and most successful" even though its not EQemu.

Deep down it is EQemu, even though it's miles ahead of any other EQemu server ever to grace this planet. Both content and feature wise.

When I learned of fairly decent (read stable) emulated servers and stumbled across EQemu, I was let down by patch incompatibilities seemingly every time I tried out of the blue to hook up with one. I asked about them and alternatives and basically got a response of "wait it out" from the rest of the people. No one bothered to mention SoD, which was already established and fairly well run at the time (from what I gather). Not until nearly a year later did I check into eqemu one blue moon and learn about SoD by sheer chance, really.

I really don't know what relevant advertising would have been able to draw me in to SoD other than word of mouth. Tell your old friends from Live, post on your old guild forum, or find a forum many oldschool players of servers have.

i just finished installing this on my roommates computer.. hopeully he will be playing a bit more. ive mentioned word around work. but most are in WoW. i personally dont play much myself. but thats mostly because everythings just there.. i personally would love to see it start over but.. i dont believe others would agree with me.. while some may you have some who wont. cant make everyone happy now can you?

Noone does seem to mention SoD in EQEmu's site, I also went there months before I found EQ, and it was ridiculously complicated, but eventually I saw mention of it on Gamefaq's, no less.

The problem with advertising SoD is the potential of it getting a Cease and Desist again. That, and the lack of easy ability to find people who'd be interested in it.

Well, I've not played in about a year and a half but I'm going to be back in a month or so, soon as I have internet hopefully. I've been considering making some kind of flyer... to post at local gaming stores, anywhere else people might see it who were a fan of oldschool EQ. I've talked a couple of people into playing with me too so... yeah, hopefully we will get some people.

Will do, I got the idea from someone else in another thread. I'm figuring I'll take a bit of the text from Server Features on the main page, some interesting fonts, and then a request to give me as the referral when creating an account. Probably mix in some stuff about it being way better than Live, and fairly close to what I remember of the original game.
