Seeking leadership assistance

P.J.

Dalayan Beginner
I'm working on building a guild. I've been in MMO's for a while and have lead guilds in the past and have lead raids in EQ. I'm a strong leader type and enjoy doing it, there is one problem though that I have learned in my gaming past. I'm not going to be able to do it alone.

My vision is a casual guild that raids a couple times a week depending on people's schedules. I have met many friends in my leveling and am always looking to make new ones. What I'm looking for is people who are adult and mature, yet helpful minded and enjoy the game rather than trying to get to the end super fast, but at the same time want to avoid stagnation. If that fits you I'd be interested in talking to you if you have some of the following skills or are interested in being a part in this.

1) Forum moderator/administrator. I'm not the best at running forums, someone else is. Ideally a free forum would be great, but I am willing to flip the bill (pending the cost) to get something rolling. Someone who can design websites would be a huge help as well, I don't have a strong skill set there. Again, I would be willing to pay for a potential host.

2) Leader types. People who want to take part in helping run a guild, those who aren't afraid to step up and enforce rules or settle a dispute. I don't play 24/7, and during those times I'm not on we need people that can step up and be leaders. Not all leaders do the same thing and I know that, if you have abilities you want to put to use towards helping a guild move let me know what they are.

3) Writing abilities. I'm not one to want to sit and write out a charter or rules, and if I did it probably wouldn't be worded that well. I'm a numbers person, not a words person. Someone who would like to participate and help write these up would be great as well.

So you ask what my skills are since I know I'm not strong in the ones listed above. I'm a motivator, and an instigator. I set things in motion and get things rolling and I have always done that. I keep people on the same page, I'm a manager. I understand I need people to help me complete things. My goal is a strong close-nit guild, and my first step is to find the people willing to support me on this endeavor.

Also if you’re simply interested in being a potential member let me know as well, not everyone has to be a leader or take part in a key role. Members are the heart and soul of a guild. Obviously in SoD there are raid number limits and with that practical limits in classes, it isn’t something that I like, but it is the system in place, so at some point it isn’t practical to have more of a particular class, because I don’t want to have to see people sitting out all the time to alternate spots in events, that is what I want to avoid most. That applies more to those who wish to raid, if you have no interest in raiding or a low interest in raiding I’m sure something can be worked out.

My target crowd is people who are just entering their 60’s, or haven’t been 65 for long. People who are new to SoD would be great. I want to progress into raiding, not start out raiding at day one, being friends and learning each others playing skills through grouping builds a foundation for a great guild.

Please contact me in game or by email. I'd like to get this in motion and get the guild formed, just need help doing it.

There's a lot of guilds that already have these qualities IMO (casual base, website with forums, and people who speak English well).

The player-base isn't exactly 'teeming' enough to just form a new guild with a crap-load of people. Have you looked into other 'casual' guilds with low requirements and possibly finding a home with them?

Thank you for the comment on the success of your guild, I’m hoping to have similar results if I can find some people willing to help me on this undertaking.

@Fakk2hm
There are a few guilds that have these qualities. The main thing that is lacking though is that there are quite a few low 60’s and fresh 65’s looking to move into a guild, for some it might be an easy choice to join a guild. I’ve noticed several people when talking in game quite interested in something new and fresh. I know from firsthand experience that joining an already existing guild once the core group of friends has been set can be quite difficult to get people to accept you as one of the team. The goal is not to form a large “crap-load” of people guild by any means, but rather a smaller group of close people, and this threads intent was to find some people that want to put forth similar effort in creating a foundation to build on.

Yes, I have looked into other guilds. Due to my skills at tanking I naturally chose warrior, and was later informed that in order to get into a guild as a warrior, forming your own guild would be the best route, which is advice I’m taking because I believe it to be true and complaining about it would not yield me results. I have never started a guild from the ground up, although I have lead them in the past, and am a manager in my everyday job which I believe offers me the required abilities to effectively lead a guild, then I have the want and drive to make it happen.

Maining a war.... I'd box a cleric or a wizzy.

Cleric for obv reasons.
Wiz for raid utility, guaranteed DPS and you have a teleporter.

And yeah, most guilds already have their 3 tanks. Kinda boned there...

A little off topic (but not so much as some!), my advice is to look around for yourself and draw your own conclusions. There are people who will blow everything out of proportion, and while their may be SOME general truth in what you read, it's not always the case. In fact, just a quick browse of the guild listing pages:

Retribution is a casual raid guild. We currently raid twice a week on tier 3-4 mobs, and are quickly progressing. We need a few more people to progress up to T5, so see the below list.

We are currently recruiting the following classes:

Mained Warrior:1

No idea if they'll match your style or needs, and I have nothing to do with, nor any knowledge of the people in Retribution, it's just an example that it's not always necessary to start your own guild as a warrior.

If you WANT to start your own guild, I do wish you the best of luck, and I'm not trying to dissuade you. I just want to encourage you to take complaints you read here with a grain of salt... It's a vocal few, not necessarily the majority who believe these things.

I saw that Screeling was tagged Retribution. They may still need a warrior they may not, IDK. It would be a good time to join Retribution. You wouldn't miss much raid content, Zekulan runs a good raid, and they are pretty fair in their loot council.

As the leader, it's important for you to be the most active member in your guild. This reflects well on your dedication to both the guild and its members.
