Do you think that some of that massive approval rating may be result of you getting thrown in the gulag if you speak out (ie reporters that have been imprisoned for speaking out). Putin was part of the KGB, and we all know if didn't flit away on silvery wings of democracy. He has hinted at expanding as all russian leaders minus Don Nelson (aka BORIS).

Moving into Georgia for what? then promising to leave then what.. entrenching further in and in the guise of helping georgians and their own citizens, taking Georgian soldiers as in essence POWs. Subtly using other countries we depend on for resources to threaten us when saying they are allies (though you can throw the french in there with that).

Subtly using other countries we depend on for resources to threaten us what about russia being chain surrounded by american "anti-terrorist rocket bases" in an attempt "to provide safety to the world from terrorist attacks".

cold war mentality? in my 10 years of living in canada and usa, every person i ask/talk to about russia its always the same: we are red commies who are shitfaced all day and we have KGB-trained bears wandering around the streets with AK47s strapped to their backs. in russia the attitude to america is different. we do not have this fear-invoking "axis of evil" image grafted into our minds. america - meh, america's america, its just another country who we work with and occasionally travel to.

by no means am i saying that russian media hasnt tried to make russia seem like "A" hero, but what the western media instigated and done is a big smoke and mirrors show whereby russia is once again the evil mastermind behind all of the worlds problems. and now that the facts are in and can no longer be ignored, a lot of the networks are apologizing and going back on their words. particularly this can be noted with the approach of the white house. at first the statements sounded like "the commies are back, nuke russia and isolate them from the rest of the world". now its more like "oh well, georgia may have been wrong, and perhaps russias not so bad after all." sounds like this double standard thing is quite popular.

I dont really understand the question from the op. Russia Vs everybody else? Everybody would die in this age of Mutually assured destruction. There are countries with far less capability then Russia who could potentially drastically alter the climate of the entire planet irrevocably with well placed-ground level strikes. Russia is, at the bottom line an untouchable country in that it is not remotely possible to actually *win* against them in an all-out war.
And I am just talking about their basic ICBM capabilities, I am not even factoring in their probable "black" potential such as those from biological and chemical weapons.

if you are talking about Georgia, nobody is going to do a single thing against Russia over this situation asside from the standard sabre rattling. Georiga stupidly gave Russia the excuse it was waiting for to exert its influance in the region, and Georgia did this against the strong advice of its most powerful ally that unfortunately is no longer in a position to arbituarily condem a unilateral invasion of a soveriegn nation.
I honestly hope that Saakashvili is executed or assasinated simply for his dangerously idiotic leadership.

"anti-terrorist rocket bases" - most of those were there during the cold war. The fact russia has ties to terrorist regimes and actively seek the fall the US in any way.. yea np with those anti-dumbcountries rocket bases. And show me ANY article speech or whatever (pre Russia going into georgia) that reports on country leaders openly sayin the US needs to be taken down in some way. Putin has said it, Germans pres, France (till new guy, but duh the french hate us), dictators all around. Has bush said DOWN WITH RUSSIA?

russia has been slowly entrenching itself in old soviet states. There is absolutely no debating that. Thats how dictators start.. by taking over lands then threatening the world and other world powers.


and since people are so dumb to think Vietnam was anything more than getting rid of communism (which OMG is a great idea) is not thinking correctly. we may have said we are doing there to help but help was to rid the world of communism. Tbh we could have given 2 shits about the people. Same with the Iraq people. We went in to stop a dictator that had countless terrorist ties and was one of the staging areas for a future gigantic problem.

Funny how other countries always think we go to conquer but we end up liberating 10s of millions instead of doing the laying waste capturing civilians and soldiers say we are leaving, then blow up more then say WE CLAIM THIS LAND FOR (X country) thing.

my only beef with our media is they ALWAYS praise stalin (HE IS MISUNDERSTOOD) and say putin is so smart, and communism YAY. Pretty damn surprised they went all apeshit about what russia did, seeing as they give Castro a pass and slam the US any chance possible.
 
In my eyes.. the world would be a much better place if ALL Countries completely and indefinitely got rid of their military..

what use are guns if not killing things? WTF do we have tanks for? to kill other humans with, WE SURE AS HELL DON'T HUNT DEER with a tank or RPG's
we can still hunt animals with traps.. but seriously.. what game is hunted nowadays as a commercial food source? all we need to do is breed animals and slaughter em.. we've gone so far past "Humanity" we only think of ourselves when it comes right down to it..

but alas.. this will never happened because humans are and always will be power hungry.. its in our nature, we always strive to be better than our counterparts..

as for alien invasions.. if the aliens intent on destroying us and have the technology to transport large quantities of troops and military assets in space to another planet or even another galaxy... regardless of our military were pretty screwed over..

as for the Russia Vs everybody else.. I'm not even gonna go into it, as pretty much whatever i say its gonna piss somebody off..

but in my mind Russia is no worse than the US and the US is no worse than Russia, nor are they any better than other countries in political terms..

Ive lived in the US for 2 years and i liked it, I cant imagine Russia to be all that different.. if you take away the political aspects.. and the huge amount of money the US has.. I don't think the US is very different from Russia..

give Russia the amount of money and resources the US has had and spent over the years i think Russia would look alot like the US does today..

as for the political games.. I don't care for either.. though I don't listen to either often I'd rather be blissfully ignorant than pissed off and aware...

military wasn't initially intended for offense. It was created as a defensive measure. It just got abused shortly after creation heh.
 
defense for what? an invasion from outer space? cause if no country had a military.. we wouldnt need to defend ourselves from ourselves..

but i seriously doubt any country is willfully going to dissolve their military.. and i seriously doubt that even if that happened, other countries would follow..

but the military is an evil spiral..

what have we done to the world we live in? whatever happened to sharing? :p
