Right-click inspecting

I have had many lengthy tell discussions because I object to having my character inspected without being asked permission. I do not wish to see them repeated here, but I would like a way to put an end to my frustration.

Idea #1: In my ideal world, people would right-click my character, I'd get a 'player X is interested in seeing your inventory' message and I could then /agree or /decline, depending on how good said player's faction is with me. Unfortunately, this would more than likely require a lot of programming time that is better spent on something less futile, if it could be done at all. Hence:

Idea #2: A filter that allows me to turn off the 'player X is inspecting your inventory' message. What I don't know can't bother me.

just shut off the inspection message..

thats what i have done.

I really dont see a reason to get upset about it.

This gets me a bit as well sometimes, Taff - but for now you'll probably just have to swallow your pride and let people inspect you, if somebody has the forethought to ask before inspecting then by all means think well of them, but should somebody inspect you without permission just forget it and carry on your business, works a charm.

Edit: Oh, and concerning your 1st idea, we all probably agree that it would be far more irritating to have a window pop up when somebody wishes to inspect you, particularly if you're in the middle of something important - imagine the havoc a griefer could wreak :p

I'm more amiable toward your second idea, but one wonders if it would be worthwhile putting effort into implementing that at all, if only the odd few players on the server would use it.

Ideal world or not, I don't think this is possible, as inspection (and WR Staff will correct me should I be wrong) is Clientside. You'll just have to turn off the messages. ;)

No problem. It's unfortunate that it wasn't made available as an option in the in-game option menu. I used to be very curious as to what others were using as far as equipment goes. Hated getting bitched at for it~

Much better when you can customize a game to your every liking.

Plus digging through .INI's and .CFG's is fun to do!

yup... sorry i didnt' get back. thats how i shut it off.

i seem to dig threw ini files more and more.. lots of neat things you can do with almost any program. =)

Messing with handling.cfg is extremely fun. If you don't know what I'm talking about then you probably shouldn't know ;)

While in the game, you can turn off the inspect message by typing /toggleinspect

And if you also didn't know, if you go in third person perspective (F9) and right-click yourself (you need to have inspect on), you can type anything in that empty black space of the inspection window of yours.

In mine, whenever someone inspects me, they see "It would be greatly appreciated if you asked my permission to inspect me first before doing it without asking."

I'm pretty sure /toggleinspect makes it so you can't inspect people, and not disable the inspect message. Or am I?

Refer to my previous post if people inspecting you bugs ya ;)

Yes /toggleinspect purely sets your own ability to inspect others when you right click them, I tend to keep it off - saves from embarassing myself when I'm ninja looting and a group member gets in my way :p

Thanks a bunch, all of you. This is actually more than what I hoped for, not only do I get to turn off the message, I can even let them know how I feel about them without having it hotbuttoned.

Love you all!

To add insult to injury, they could see EXACTLY what you are wearing by viewing your wanelo profile. Shocking!

Well, Wanelo doesn't bother me at all. It's actually how I look up what somebody's wearing if I see a high level mage with a particularly well-cut dress. It's non-intrusive.

It's not the inspecting itself that bothers me either, if they ask I'll gladly tell them what it is, where I got it and how much it cost / how high the mob was that dropped it. It's the fact that they see me and immediately right-click me as if I'm a vendor, standing there waiting for them to inspect and approve.

Winter's Roar is supposed to be a social game. I'm a real person, and wish to be treated that way. I like to compare it to real life. If a colleague brings his wife to an office party, and she's wearing a killer dress, I can do one of the following:

a) I walk up to her, compliment her on the dress and ask her where she got it.
b) I ask my colleague, Mr. Wanelo.
c) I walk up to her, turn her around, and check the inside of her dress for a label.

To all of you who now think "It's not real life, it's a game, lighten up!" I can only say that there are lots of very entertaining offline games available where none of the characters you meet will whine about the way you treat them.

There you go Rab, you actually tricked me into making it a discussion thread. You relocate it then :p
