Relic: Scourge of Life vs. Caress of Sivyana

Relic: Scourge of Life: 15 counters, 250 initial, 295 tic, 7 tics, 0 resistance check, 200 range, 500 mana.

Caress of Sivyana: 13 counters, 215 initial, 498 tic, 4 tics, 0 resist, 200 range, 505 mana, 3.75 cast



The SHM/NEC poison line of DoTs has been revamped to 4 tick durations. They will still do the same damage for the same mana total.
Caress of Sivyana boosted to 498 damage/tick.
Affliction Enchancement has been upgraded from 3/6/9/12/15% to 4/8/12/16/20% DoT damage increase.
Funeral Pyre of Malath changed to do 330 damage per tick over 6 ticks.
Bane of Althuna changed to do 375 damage per tick over 4 ticks.
Caress of Sivyana changed to do 448 damage per tick over 4 ticks.
Scitterpox damage/tick increased to 145 from 125.
Black Plague damage/tick increase to 135 from 130.

Those were changes done a few months back, although the dots were revamped, relics were not, making shaman relic DoT arguably worst than Caress of Sivyana. After looking through this info, I personally will not use my relic DoT over Caress. I also don’t feel that any relic DoT should be less wanted than a regular spell, due to rareness and…. It’s a relic :(

I believe (looking over a mIRC conversation) that the relic used to be 15% better than Caress, but since it didn’t get upgraded with the other DoTs, it seems the same or possibly worst than Caress.

I personally would like to see Relic: Scourge of Life have the same upgrades as the other DoTs, and given a 4 tick duration. If this spell is not changed, I will not even try to get my relic as Caress is just as good/better.

Please look into this, and if I’m totally wrong tell me, my source was a very reliable one. ;(

Seems the be the same spell, with one as 7 tic (relic) and one at 4 tics (caress).

Unless Relic dot stacks?

I was just looking at it from the opposite spectrum; you see it as a slow poison, whereas I saw it as a fast disease. But after some more examination, you're probably right.

Yeah, maybe it could use a slight boost.
 
Disease DoTs have pretty long durations, whereas poisons are quicker. I do not have my relic scourge, and yes, it sounds like disease, but I'm sure it's poison. As it is only 7 ticks. Disease does small damage, for a long period of time, and poison does larger doses, for a shorter period.
 
As a shaman that has used both DoTs, I use Caress of Sivyana over Relic: Scourge of Life. It costs pretty much the same mana for the same damage, and will typically do full damage (4 tick duration) versus whatever mob you land it on. Sometimes the mob dies before Relic: Scourge of Life can do it's full damage. I will check again but last I knew the two spells didn't even stack.
 
Scourge is a poison DoT, and you're quite right, I forgot to change it.

Changed to 550/tick over 4 ticks.

They don't stack, it's been tested already. Relic over writes Caress, and Caress doesn't take hold over Relic, hence, the are both poison. DoTs of the same type don't stack (when castes by the same person). :p
 
Hrmm.

550 for 4 ticks? That's only a 52/tick increase from Caress... a total of 208 extra damage. Can we put it at 6 perhaps? Or even 5?
 
I agree with Anadin on this. The relic is only doing 200 more damage compared to a level 62 spell. Perhaps bumping the relic to 600/tick for 4 ticks would be more relevant. It is, after all, a relic spell.
