Regarding Necromancers

Greetings my friends.

Too keep it short, sweet and to the point - Can Necromancers succesfully solo in areas where there is little room to kite mobs around? To be more specific, can Necros do well in places like Guk, Kaladim, Highhold Pass, Paw and Free Port completely solo?

I hate to bug everyone and ask this type of question but I do hope there is someone who can spare the time to answer. The reason I ask is because my current play time is rather sporadic and I'm looking for a class that I can succesfully solo with in hopes of exploring some of my old favorite zones from Live. Out of the 5 years I played Live, I never played a Necro, so I'm honestly not sure about their skills. Sure, I know they are known as fantastic soloers, but I wasn't sure if that included tight areas like the ones I listed above; especially since Necros are played differently in SoD (no fear in most zones iirc).

I'm much more of a group friendly player, but because of my sporadic play time I'm really looking for a class that will allow me to solo and hopefully experience some of my favorite zones. If anyone knows how well Necros are in this department, I would greatly appreciate your input. Or, if you think another class would better suit my wants and needs, would you mind saying  ?

Many thanks my friends. I look foward to any help you can offer and seeing you in game soon!

Stay safe and take care.

Simply, yes.

I know I've done Guk (MielA) and Kaladim here already.

Because fear doesn't work, fear kiting is not an option. So you can either kite by REALLY making a mob angry and then running around letting your pet beat on it with /pet taunt off.... OR, in places like Kaladim where there are tons of undead mobs, you can snare, slow, DoT, debuff and root a mob, and send your pet in... your pet will tank, but with the mob slowed and debuffed, and with your pet heals, it won't be a problem.

I did the former method in places like West Badlands... I did the latter mostly in Kaladim. But, to answer, yes... I would say Necros are one of the best soloers in just about any sort of physical terrain/setup.

::Edit:: Also, I've heard that Freeport used to be THE best solo exp for Necros because they'd charm one of the undead monks and just go to town.... I'm not certain about it, becase I'm not that high level... But also Highpass I believe is mostly undead as well... I >THINK< you named some of the absolute best areas for a Necro to play in. ::Edit::

Necromancers can solo in indoor and confined areas even moreso than bards. Thier pet can keep the mob in place and take all the damage so long as you keep it alive and get the mob down quickly.

The absence of fear isn't even an issue in this situation. Using fear in confined areas is probably the worst thing you could possibly do if it we to actually work in the zone you were in (Highkeep, ouch).

It is key to remember that DoTs, unlike nukes, do not break root (be sure to use those without initial damage components, lest they be treated as nukes).

This fact in and of itself gives necromancers immense soloing power. Sure, my wizard can kill EW orcs with one to four nukes, but tell 'im to solo in an area with very little room to move around and you'll see a lot of rooting, snaring, nuking and praying that root doesn't break, and relying on that snare to buy me a precious extra second to reroot and take a step away to finish the job. Not by any means safe, definitely not the sort of thing you'd want to do for reliable XP.

Necros, on the other hand? Well, people call them amazing soloers because they're amazing soloers. This is part of it.

Many thanks for all the replies. I greatly appreciate the info and I definately look foward to getting back home and starting one.

Thanks again!

Just commenting on the absence of fear:

I fear-kited a lot on live but didn't even miss it here since we get very potential roots. If you land root and then snare on a mob you basically did 50% of the fight. I soloed a lot of my way 1-65 and I still solo quite a lot at 200+ AA's and find new challenging things to do everyday. There's a small writeup on the wiki about a Necrolevelguide where solospots for every span are pointed out, will go and find it.

EDIT:

Here you go :)

Just noticed you're a bard. Bards aren't exactly what I'd call bad soloers - in fact bards solo far better then Necros as long as it is outdoors. While I kill 1 mob X in a random zone that is worth killing it Iaeolan (random example) can kill 3 of those - and stustain this rate.

Bards just need to do crazy shit if they want to solo indoors and do not have the gear which would let them melee solo the mob. indoor circle kiting, using charm, mez/dd, melee/mez are all options a bard can use to kill a mob indoors, but they are very risky and very slow and are not worth using to xp with.

Necro's on the other hand get FD, mez, a pet, and heals which really make the difference int his situation.

I've tried soloing indoors with my bard, but I've had pretty poor luck with it. I can't seem to hold charms for longer then 10 secs and while circle kitting works pretty well, it's rather boring and gives me a headach, hah. While I'm sure bards can do well indoors, it's not really what I am looking for in a class. :)

Not arguing indoor soloing, noone beats the Necro here. I wouldn't even try to solo indoors as a bard unless I have a crapton of room to move around because it's not worth it.

Little sidenote: Necro heals are always pretty risky since they are Lifeflows (never used them a lot on my pet tbh). There are quite some situations where you could go w/o your pet because you don't even have the room to kite the mob (and at higher levels petprocs can break root).

Anyways, if you want something to do on offtimes and would like to see a majority of zones go Necro.
