Ranger usable 1h weapons

Rangers are a dual wield class with a skill cap of 250 in all of the different weapons types (with a possible exception for hand-to-hand). Following is a list of all the high end ranger usable 1hers along with the ratio and % increase in ratio from the baseline weapon (Stormrazor from PoAir). For elemental dmg mods on the weapon, I used 1/2 of the value to calculate the ratio.

Code:
droppable 1hs from First Ruins 15/21 0.7143 -10.71%
Stormrazor from PoAir 16/20 0.8000 baseline
Unknown axe from PoWater or Valor 20/25 0.8000 no change
Shortblade of Chaos from Sep 16/20 0.8000 no change
Splitblade of Darkness from Cod 16 +1 /21 0.7857 -1.8%
Blackened Dragonspine Cutlass from Cod 17/21 0.8095 +1.12%
Blade of Shifting Dimensions 15 +3/23 0.7174 -10.33%
Akzalk, Shard of the Mirror 16/20 0.8000 no change
Patriarch, Sword of the Rules from IP 12/15 0.8000 no change
Flame-forged Longblade from Thaz 18/21 0.8571 +7.14%
Funeral Guardians Tonfa from Cmal4.2 20/23 0.8696 +8.70%

Patriarch is an aggro weapon, so I can understand the ratio on it not being exceptional. But why do rangers get no 1h dps upgrades above PoAir until a Lower Thaz boss? The 1h from Sep is same ratio as Air as is the Axe from Water or Valor (not sure where it drops). Two 1hers drop in CoD, but they are pretty much the same ratio (with one actually being worse). The Blade of Shifting Dimensions from OP is actually a 10% DOWNGRADE from PoAir.

Conspicuously absent from this list are:
Code:
Screamstrike, Baton of the Forlon from IP 18 +1/21 0.8810 +10.12% above baseline
Flamestrike Mace 23/27 0.8519 +6.48% above baseline

As was pointed out in a previous thread, Ghar is certainly harder to take down than the fire mini in lower Thaz but less difficult than the fire boss. So I feel that the ratios on Screamstrike, Flamestrike and the Flame-forged Longblade are reasonably proportional to the difficulty in acquiring them. What is not right is that neither of the 1hbs are ranger usable yet both can be used by warriors and rogues and even bards can use the Flamestrike mace.

I'm not asking that rangers be placed on every @#%(@^@ 1h in the game. Some items are obviously not intended to be ranger usable ie. Wardfist, Frostwrath (upper Thaz). But having to go 5 tiers between upgrades is just too damn much.

*insert Kaloft catch phrase here*

Edit: added mirror poker

You are not taking into considerations procs or if the weapon is offhand only.

Also elemental damage

Ginam's parses (here) pretty much proved that unless the proc is one that generates hate and hate alone, they are fairly worthless and shouldn't really be counted when comparing items, unless the damage(or proc rate/resist mod) portion is major. And Brandar said he used 1/2 the value of elemental damage for ratios.

Besides that point, I agree that going 5 tiers for an actual DPS upgrade is fairly silly.

I got Stormrazor (PoA, Arch-Sultan) a few weeks, maybe a month or two ago, on my ranger. I was extremely excited (especially having Windsinger drop at the same time!), as this was a huge offhander upgrade for me.

I was surprised, and a little disappointed, to hear from a guildy, that this weapon was pretty much considered an Epic weapon for rangers, because it takes *so* long to see an upgrade for it.

I have to admit being a bit skeptical about this person's statement, until I started raiding a bit more, and saw weapons that were dropping, and looking more closely at some higher tier rangers' weapons. It appeared to be true.

If this list is complete, I have to say that, while excited to have Stormrazor, and someone refreshed that I won't have to worry about upgrading it for a while...it's a real shame to see that it may be a year or two before I see an upgrade =(

For what it's worth, there's also a ranger-usuable 1hb from one of the four element raid mobs in Rust.

droppable 1hs from First Ruins 15/21 0.7143 -10.71%
Stormrazor from PoAir 16/20 0.8000 baseline
Unknown axe from PoWater or Valor 20/25 0.8000 no change
Shortblade of Chaos from Sep 16/20 0.8000 no change
Splitblade of Darkness from Cod 16 +1 /21 0.7857 -1.8%
Blackened Dragonspine Cutlass from Cod 17/21 0.8095 +1.12%
Blade of Shifting Dimensions 15 +3/23 0.7174 -10.33%
Patriarch, Sword of the Rules from IP 12/15 0.8000 no change
Flame-forged Longblade from Thaz 18/21 0.8571 +7.14%
Funeral Guardians Tonfa from Cmal4.2 20/23 0.8696 +8.70%

Stormrazor is offhand only.

PoValor axe has 1 magic dmg (21/26) and has a very nice proc and 2 crit strike.

Shortblade has a very nice proc rate and much better stats.

Splitblade is all about the proc.

Cutlass could use a bump imo.

Patriarch doesnt count. Offhand only and not a dps sword.

Not saying the progression couldnt be looked at. These are just important facts that were left out.

It's been fairly well established that DD procs are a minimal source of dps.

I tried to find someone with the axe, but no luck. That's why I missed the +1 magic dmg. So it's 20 + 1 /25, which is 0.82 ratio (using 1/2 of elemental dmg) which is a 1.025% increase over Stormrazor.

Oh, and I left one out of my list: Akzalk Shard of the Mirror 16/20 0.800 ratio which is no change from the baseline. I'll integrate it into my list if I can edit it.

Akzalk has the annoying mirror shard proc tho, like the 2hander.

Right now at IP tier where we are I dont see me using the given 1handers anyway, though I have quite a nice collection. Can't compare to 2hs like Mirror 2hs or Danrak.

Cutlass has an awesome + all instruments mod just a hair under Zorez'ad, and I think that makes up for its slightly low ratio. IIRC, other classes are on it mostly to ensure that it's not a guarunteed rot after the first bard gets one.

When you start emergency tanking in IP the rest of the raid will wish you had 1hers equipped. The time lost switching from a 2h to a pair of 1hers is more than enough to get you killed and cost you the opportunity to look like a hero. lol

Aliielyn is correct in regards to the Cutlass, it won't really be receiving an upgrade because it mostly has other classes to keep it from rotting.
