Ranger Hawk pet AA

lol Melwin. I thought it was general consensus to have foresight changed, I would agree that this is a good idea. DOWN WITH FORESIGHT! ON WITH "CALL OF THE EAGLE" !!!

actually, I like the SoE one, it wont be overpowering at all and wont do anything to cause class imbalance in terms of DPS or whatever. It'll pretty much be a perma SoE, except castable anywhere (this still wont make much of a difference, since you can just cast it outside and go wherever 0 and of course this ability wouldnt be usable in those special zones where theres no lev, like PoT) and will free up a buff slot. I just want a pet... I'm lonely =(

A small griffin griffon griffenne (WTF is the spelling?) would be pretty cool actually....kinda RPish too. But if you are going for run speed, make it give you perma that is slightly better than SoE, and w/o the lev. That way its worth it...

Oh, and cant enchanters perma air illusion themselves to get lev in bad zones? Never tried it but could be an exploit...who knows, i know perma wolf will let me go anywheres.

i don't want a griffon pet. i prolly don't want any pet at all. especially not to give me perma soe. you want perma soe? spend 9 aa points on perma and cast soe. problem solved.

What about Innate Camo? Want invisibility (not even perma, psh), cast Superior Camoflage. Problem solved.

The point isnt that its going to be some crazy new skill that is going to make rangers a lot better than they currently are. Its a matter of convenience - not having to mem SoE, not having to med up to cast it if you're OOM or newly rezzed, (possibly) not having to stop to cast it if you're dispelled and running, having one more free buff slot, and most of all its a matter of fun. Lighten up dude, its a game ;)

Want Run Speed 3? Cast SoE/SoW.
Having food problems? Buy more food/drink.
Want better regen? Cast Chloroplast/regrowth.
Want more lung capacity? Cast enduring breath.

... shall I go on?

i know that it's a game and i'm having lots of fun playing it ;) , but i still don't like this idea. i prolly wouldn't buy and use this aa. why?

1) soe doesn't cost much mana. if i'm oom, i will regenerate the mana needed to cast soe rather quickly. that won't annoy me.
2) i don't lose buffs to dispel because i always have clicky buffs in the first few slots, whenever i'm fighting mobs that dispel.
3) i don't want to be forced to kill my pet every time i want to climb ladders
4) i don't want a pet that aggros adds while i'm kiting in narrow areas.
5) why would i want to use soe anyway? i'd rather use wolf form for the additional attack rating.

... shall i go on? :p

Oh! I know! Let's make the hawk give you perma wolf form! THAT MAKES SENSE!

Not every class needs a pet. Right now, every class that can cast a spell (except Paladins and Rangers) gets a pet. If you really want a pet, go use your charm whip on a greenie or get a canopic jar.

Good points brought up G, I pretty much agree with all of them, since we're out of range of dispells and AoE's on most mobs anyways (I dont think I've been dispelled once... /shrug). And yeah, having to click off SoE/lev every time I get to a ladder sucks, we should fix that =(.

Would it be possible to make the pet invulderable and immune to aggro? I dont know if that is possible (how do wizard familiars work?) but its an idea. Other than that... SoE stacks with pretty much anything (selos, regular SoE, billy, and yes, wolf form) so its not a problem of one or the other. mr_g, how would you feel about a pet (sorry I'm stuck on the idea of a tiny griffon following me around) that gives us a sort of perma wolf form (perhaps with better ATK than our current, which would make it useful to buy). This way we can have it indoors (where most of the raids are). This would be a better option than perma in the sense that if you die on a raid and are rezzed, you can still get wolf form and its ATK without having to run outside (which is particularly hard in most raid zones), while saving perma for spells more beneficial to the raid as a whole such as CoTP.

Maybe instead of a pet (if you're really against that), we can just have a sort of Eagle Form, which is like wolf form but illusions us as a griffon and gives us more atk. Please give any constructive criticism on this concept =P

ps. I just want some new cool AA pretty much for the novelty

Wow yeah Phoenix Form sounds awesome, havent seen it though... I'm assuming a bird on fire? :?

Chewbacca defense time.

Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, I have one final thing I want you to consider: Ladies and gentlemen this [pointing to a picture of a Ranger with a flaming bird next to him] is a Ranger with a flaming bird next to him. This flaming bird somehow turns him into a wolf! Why would a small flaming bird turn the ranger into a wolf? THIS DOES NOT MAKE SENSE!

But more important, you have to ask yourself, what does this have to do with this case? Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this case! It does not make sense!

If a flaming bird or a lion bodied eagle turns the ranger into a wolf or makes him run really fast and levitate, you must acquit.

Lol rabe,

The last section of my post said perhaps we could have the AA turn us into an eagle (no pet, as mr_g is very against that idea, brought up very good points, and I am seeking to gain approval of all rangers), similar to that of wolf form but with more attack and an eagle/phoenix illusion. I did NOT suggest a small pet to turn us into a wolf. Anyways...

Rangers being able to turn into an eagle/phoenix makes just as much sense as us being able to turn into a wolf. I think it would be handy too, we havent had a +atk spell / wolf form past 60. :p

A ranger hawk pet seems all too appropriate. Unfortunately, none of your ideas make an iota of sense.

I propose that you make the hawk pet similar to the wizard eyes. Immune to aggro, invincible, and can be used for scouting. This ability seems far more "hawkish" to me, and much more applicable to a ranger's line of abilities. How many times have we seen the fantasy cliché of a ranger/hunter/tracker sending their hawk in to scout for them? The code is already in the game with the wizard eyes, so it doesn't seem very hard to code at all.

What if you could use the hawk as an eye in conjunction with tracking? Like if hit track while 'seeing' the hawk, it would track from the hawk instead of the player. It could be the ranger telling the hawk to go to suchandsuch via scent.

How would that work? I don't understand what you mean.

When I said hawks could be used for scouting, I was referring to using them in th exact same manner as wizard eyes, except with an indefinite duration, and possibly levitate. i.e. ranger's view snaps to the hawk's view, the ranger is now controlling a hawk which he can use to explore an otherwise hostile area.

I am not sure how tracking would work with this, other than a ranger tracks to an area that he or she cannot enter, and uses the hawk to scout out said area.

the ranger is now controlling a hawk which he can use to explore an otherwise hostile area.

That would...kind of take away a rogues unique ability when a ranger can already track? ;(

I suppose...that never really ocurred to me. However, rogues can move themselves through hostile territory in addition to scouting, whereas a ranger would only be able to scout.

I made the suggestion of a scouting hawk because the idea of having a bird following someone around and improving their archery is... well, gay. It just seems infinitely more pirate-like than ranger-like to have a bird right at your side.
