Rampage target

Dalayan Pious Diety
I am curious as to what the conditions are to being selected as the rampage target on a mob, For a while I assumed it was the second person to get on the hate list but as of recently ive noticed no matter what I do some mobs just refuse to leave my rogue alone, I am certainly not getting hate from being the first one in aggro range (hiding/sneaking , dhk etc), I am not the second on hate (have had main tank die and still taken ramp while a bard got smushed)

There have been times where I will not engage a mob until 80% and then immediately receive ramp despite having been afk 50 feet behind the raid etc.

So I am curious as to what is the cause of gaining ramp and or if this is intended.

Its pretty lame to be yelled at for eating ramp on mobs/ having to sit out of melee on them when as far as I know I did nothing to deserve it.

The search feature on the forum is currently failing me and I could not find any insight from the balance/discussion thread but admittedly I didn't read thoroughly

As I understand it, rampage list is built purely based on the order on which you are placed on the agro list. Lots of things can place you on the agro list of a mob from simple proximity, to hitting it, to healing someone on it, or to buffing someone on it, etc. As I understand it, the ONLY way to get off the agro list is to successfully feign death.

I am pretty sure escape will drop you off of the rampage target as well, the reasoning for making this post was somewhat to inquire if more people have this problem. I have seen a good number of rogues and bards just appear on rampage after being afk from the beginning of the fight , out of los , etc and it just baffles me

Rampage order is as Foolra described. It's simple to understand and easy to control. The only thing that might be causing something like what you are describing (that I can think of) is the fact that proximity agro is not continually checked, it's checked at intervals. If a mob moves into agro range of multiple PCs between prox agro checks the agro generated by proximity of those PCs will be added to the agro list in arbitrary order (this means the closest standing PC might not be highest on the ramp list). Your raid might need to change it's tactics to be more active about setting ramp order.

Is there a reason ramapge was changed to this? It happened at the same time as the other rampage changes. I miss aggro-based rampage

Yeah, I forgot about escape. We have seen some funky rampage things happen before. But honestly, almost all the time, we manage to get a tank on the top of the rampage list simply by having all the melees hold back until the tanks engage.

i don't think its rampage per say its aggro.

Wizards that are afk can get on ramp if a warrior brings the mob near them. They get it over Sks who are actually attacking.

Aggro has always been a prob here. Its just something you have to deal with. Can't tell yuo how many times mobs would get aggroed by the MT and run for me (without casting for 3 mins).

Rampage and Agro lists are two completely separate lists. You get on both lists the same way, by causing an agro/hate of 1 (or however you want to look at it). The Rampage list, however, is static, changed only by feign death and escape. A mob will rampage onto the highest person on the rampage list that is BOTH in melee range of it AND not on the top of the agro list. If no one other than the person on the top of the agro list is in melee range of the mob, it will do rampage damage as well as normal melee damage to that person.

The agro list is completely dynamic, with positions changing through every action you take that generates agro or hate, be it doing damage to the mob, healing someone on the list, etc.

So, if you set your rampage list incorrectly, you cannot change it. You can, however, move out of melee range, forcing the mob to move on to the next person on the rampage list.

Don't sit down on incoming. If you ever pull multiples on top of a group and the tank hasn't established hate on all of them, the strays will tend to b-line for those sitting down first therefore on the aggro list. Of course if there's no one else yet on rampage those who were sitting down are often on top without knowing until they're taking damage.

As for wizards, a possibility is that they're on rampage because their relic familiars are healing group members every couple ticks or so. Both could be the case, not positive on it though, just an observation.
