Quest Designer Staff Position

We're currently on the lookout for a quest designer with a reasonable amount of time on his hands, who has a good storywriting ability and who is a long-term WR player.

We have, in the past, had a few quest designers and none of them were really up to par. One was even lazier than me, and another finished only one quest, all in all. Basically, none of that. Ideally you should be able to churn out at least one quality quest a week, or a big quest every other week. In time you'll get almost unparalleled knowledge of the WR lore, since currently it's not very generally available, and you get to be a staffer, which makes you inherently cool. Like me.

Joking aside, if you'd love to make a mark on WR and put in some quests on a regular basis, send me an application quest over PM. You won't have to design a reward for it, though if you could double as an item maker or a lore "writer" (the lore exists, it's just not written down), that only helps your case.

This is one of the only positions we take only applications for and you might miss your window, so don't hold back if you fit the requirements:

  • 1: Been an active WR player for three or more months
  • 2: Level 65 character
  • 3: Ability to make at least one normal quest a week (think quests for armor sets) or one big quest every two-three weeks (think Ytrazliarch or an epic).
    [/list:u]

If you fit at least #3, send me a quest outline via forum PM and we'll evaluate it from there. The others are mostly additional "help".

I know I don't qualify for the quest writing position but I noticed you are focusing the quest on armor. I like to suggest more epic adventures that would take some time to complete like investigating some event and talking with NPCs about; put more mystry in it. Im sorry if the reply is not in the right forums.

No I'm not, that was just a simple example. Send me a test quest.

I've only been here for about a month if that, and my characters are 45/45 but... I do have 90 minutes of free time at work plus time at home to work on quests, I believe with more input from you guys as to the current situation on lore and explanations of zones and stuff, I could gain a broader understanding of where everything stands. I would love to write quests and I think I might be able to knock of a quality one atleast 2 or 3 times a month, I'll see what I can draft up at work tonight, but Melwin please PM me with some Lore or talk to me in game and give me the scope on where everything stands, also we need to consider say if we put in this quest in this zone which is unpopular will it make people go there more often and work on the quest, to add some immersiveness and variety instead of say, making an easy armor quest in Storm Keep or something. It could start off with an NPC in one of the starting towns where no one is KoS, so everyone could have a chance at it. =D I'd also like to make some lower and mid level quests as well because I don't think are enough of them. I'm not one to brag but I believe I have a some what decent writing ability and this sounds like something I could handle, or atleast would be willing to try. Like I said, I'll draft something up tonight at work but get in contact with me prior to about 9:30 tonight. =)

P.S. I would also want to know all the quests available on WR at the moment, so I could see say which class has the most solo quests and which classes don't have that many and gear more quests towards single classes and maybe some certain duo classes because a lot of people like to two box, like a War/Cle quest or a Caster/Melee quest just to broaden it up. Also more quests geared specifically for classes with less than others.

Big question: Is this simply designing quests or will this person be required to actually code the quests as well?

Both, but doing so is very easy.

Hmmm this sounds interesting....

I've always wanted to do some coding but never done it before...

I haven't been playing WR that long and don't have any character even remotely close to the level requested.... But I have been playing D&D for 26 years, and I have created hundreds upon hundreds of quests for players throughout those years. Not to mention I do have a fairly large amount of spare time available to me.

But like the previous poster stated, could we have an example of what is involved in the coding?

Me! Me! Me!

I can do it! I swear! I've been making up EQ quests for a while now in hopes of eventually having my own server, but after learning how much coding and such is involved, I'll stick with quest writing!

Question: If I were to get the position and write a quest, you guys would create and place the necessary NPCs, right? Or are we stuck running off what exists?

Creating NPCs/items/whatever isn't a problem, but further details will happen in staff. Also, the quest designer must use mIRC. He doesn't have to be online all the time, but it makes it so much easier.

Items and NPCs will be created as you wish. Don't feel too limited.

Melwin i can write some quest`s for WR .... but i can`t write 1 (really good) quest per week =( i dont have enought time for it atm ....
If you want me to write some quest`s instead of your "Quest writer"
i`m ready to do it ....

Thanks Okiry. Intent appreciated, but we really need a stable quest designer that can make quests on a regular basis. :)

I've gotten some fantastic submissions (and some not so fantastic ones, too :p) so keep them coming!

I've sent my submission ive been playing WR for allmost 2years now and have 2 level 65 charaters and have been a admin for other games i also have mnimal experice with coding...but when it comes to coding i pick up quickly and can master most any code in a month or so.

P.S i spend a ton of time playing haha i have no life.

Could you PM us some feedback, those who have submitted? Feel kind of in the dark here, or maybe thats to test our creativity/originality.

I'm not going to comment on any of the submissions, because I've gotten quite a lot.

We'll be accepting applications until midnight CET today, so hurry up. If you miss the window, just send it in anyway and we might still hire you, but don't be too late.

I'll admit that if I haven't contacted you yet, though, you were not picked. Sorry. :(

We're no longer taking submissions for the Quest Designer position, which actually turned out to be multiple positions because of two very, very good submissions from Leokaiser and LuciaMoonglow.

I want to thank everyone who submitted quests, and I'd like to encourage you all to keep at it as we will possibly be looking for even more Quest Designers in the foreseeable future if this little experiment works out. :)
