I heard there was a rumor of a pvp server comming out, just wondering what the deal is ?

just add a new zone with arenas.. thats all.. :D
and maybe a count on /cmd info of how many players killed, and maybe, who knows, add a price to the top 5..
something like that...

yea a pvp server would be badass, whats the word on that, i'd play there for sure, as well as many of my friends. Would be cool if you could actually find people and to kill without searching forever. Item loot would be great too.



Another fun idea would be to do a pvp server where its most kills in 30 minutes or so wins. Every 30 minutes the server refreshes and everyone starts over again. You get 1 pt per kill with bonuses for things like killing 5 consecutive people w/o dying or something. Then you can trade in points for items, the more points you trade in the better items you get, so there's some incentive to save. But then you can use ur new item to wreck even harder. Have a ranking system w/ like most games won, best ratio, etc. Just a huge battle royal.
 
Perhaps the plane of war (unused zone on live) and add an event for two raid forces that transports one to the defending and one to the attacking side, after both opposing raids paying money they will be ported in to their respective positions. The raid leader of winning raid takes the money. Perhaps a mob spawns after the fight that drops some nice stuff too after you manage to kill it. The mobs loot and difficulty depends on the power of the raid force that you defeated. Of course once you are dead you cannot enter during the PvP fight, except by a res maybe.
 
Adding a PvP server at this time (or another PvE server) would be the worst thing to do. The server population got a huge knockdown and is slowly coming up again, surely not the time to split it.

Game and SoD doesn't match with PvP anyway, it's just not developed for it and will never be balanced. But that's just my opinion, go ahead ;)
 
just copy wow and make instanced zones for pvp that are choke full of badass rewardsa nd great quests so people would want to go there, and also don't make a harsh pvp death penalty, something like "you sit out for 5 min"

The server population got a huge knockdown and is slowly coming up again, surely not the time to split it.

But it could bring a whole new set of pvp players.

Anyway i think we should keep our breath for the "official" thread about the new server for a poll like we had for the 1.0 to 2.0,
and not bring now our arguments now about "yes pvp rules / no it suck ass", instead let's keep them for the "official" new server thread.
(by official...i mean a thread started by Wiz or an Admin)
 
it would be cool only if the pvp was roleplayed and controlled. maybe by a clan. I played some muds where if an illegal pvp took play a code marker would be dropped and a justice clan member could investigate, find the marker identify the individual, and then select a member of the justice clan to carry out a sentence.

Illegal pvp?... what are you talking about?

A justice clan? so you are saying have people enforce pvp? no thanks.

Live and SoD alike are pretty horribly balanced for pvp (ever wonder why 75% of necros are pvp flagged?) and would require an overhaul of basica game mechanics to fix the big issues. Besides that, the only way to make it worthwhile is hardcoded teams, or everyone vs everybody.



Shit... I'd be happy if there was the /guildwar option and call the pvp problem solved.
 
Imho, just use the current server and flag "good" and "evil" faction players for pvp against each other. That way people who want to remain neutral can do so and those who want to pvp in a roleplay-ey fashion can do so as either good or evil.

and its not even alike with pvp..


instead of teams fighting each other in pvp, having them complete increasingly difficult tmap type events would better guage their playing ability

not to say that killing people isnt fun or anything because it certainly is
